Inspired by another board, where we created a separate topic so the general HP topic could continue to talk about movies, or how far through the book we were, behold the new Deathly Hallows spoiler topic.

Please post all spoilers for DH *here* and not in the main HP thread. Here is also the place to raise any questions that are still unresolved in your mind.

Speculation I have seen so far includes why Fred & George wanted to be called "Rapier" on Potterwatch. I wondered whether they did anything like a swordfight before fleeing Hogwarts in Order of the Phoenix.

Anyone got any ideas?

Also, parts of the story you enjoyed most? Parts you hated? Parts that made you [want to] cry?

For the latter, the deaths of Dobby & Fred definitely. Also the somewhat casual way we were informed that Remus & Tonks didn't make it.

I was somewhat ambivalent on the whole surviving Avada Kedavra for the second time thing, but I think she got away with it. Also, for a dead guy, Dumbledore sure gets a lot of page time.

I also wasn't a big fan of the epilogue. I imagine she put it in there so that a generation of children don't grow up completely scarred by the death & destruction & despair, but it seemed like reverting to fairy tales - "and they all lived happily ever after, married their adolescent sweethearts and had lots of kids". Still, I suppose I shouldn't complain about fairy tale influences in a book about magic...

I must admit I cheered when Bellatrix got offed. And say what you like about Malfoy, he didn't abandon Crabbe (or was it Goyle? - whichever one lived) when the Fiendfire took hold in the Room of Requirement.

So, there are my thoughts for what they're worth (tuppence ha'penny, maybe).

Anyone else?

To me it had a climax and then stopped, without really stopping to conclude the story. It hops forward to your 19 years later epilogue and gives us a rather sweet scene without closing the holes of the past, it swept Bellatrix and Fenrir under the rug in such a casual way after how powerful we've been lead to think they are.

Personally I think this is a ploy for an "extended universe"

Rowling's offered the fanbase a new generation to play with, so we have James Potter, Harry Potter and Albus Potter to write about.

I guarantee that we'll be seeing unofficial additions to the canon in future years, ala Star Wars/Trek. If someone can get "Harry Potter and his Seventh Year" right, I wouldn't mind buying it. Something about Harry-Ginny and Ron-Hermoine sharing a class is just too sweet for words to me. Also we find out the new head, head boy/girl, what happened to Luna, was Snape's portrait put up and of course what occupations does everyone go for.

Those questions are more important than "do the established relationships happen?" "They do." "Ok."

As far as the book goes...

The Hallows was kind of a waste of page time. We already had the cloak, the stone did nothing and all Voldermort's plans for the deathstick are kind of null and void when Avada Kerdava is the only spell he used and no matter how weak the stick, that one kills in a single blow.

Also, I do appreciate Rowling trying to cover up her plot error. The Room of Requirements gave Neville and co a teleport out of Hogwarts...

Didn't Malfoy REQUIRE that for the entire of Half-Blood?

So him referring to it as "The Room of Hidden Things" is a very subtle, but kind of effective way of covering that up.

Alas, there's no covering up Hermoine claiming to never have altered a memory before, 50 pages after announcing she altered her parent's memories.

Whoopsie...

Overal, I loved it, twas an amazing book. It certainly has a higher volume of "can't put down" moments, the last 300 pages are just an exciting thrill ride to the top... and then it ends.

Come on Extended Universe! We're waiting.

I must admit, if I actually read Harry Potter fanfic, I'd be shaking in my shoes now... I hadn't considered the possibility of official new stuff.

I'm baffled as to how that sword got back into the hat again, myself.
