A book that I recommend you read -

West of Kabul, East of New York
by Tamim Ansary.

biggrin

it's about a guy who's faced with the "challenges" of being bi cultural ( his mom is an American atheist and his dad an afghan Muslim). It show you the basic "teachings" of islam and why people stick to it so much from a "western" point of view without forcing the relgion on you.

it's more so a book on exploring and respecting other cultures and religions...it also removes alot of prejudice and stereotypes against Muslims.

It was the required book for my summer reading for honors English II.
xDDD

I love my school district.
lmao.

Yeah frifri, never met you, but man.. I'm already liking you xD.
I like a lot of the reasons you stated. Also the "scientific evidence".. I think the idea of it is just awesome.. back then, typical ocean-splitting miracles brought people belief. But today, when people are so faithful in science, I think it's very clever how God put these dormant miracles in the Quran to inspire belief in future generations.

Another I would have to throw in is that I found Islam to be the most logical religion. Like, it made the most sense to me, and seemed like it could apply to the most people. It seems to be so, since it's the most fastest growing religion.

For instance, it has a lot of focus on peace and not letting bad passions and desires taking over you, much like in Buddhism, another religion I considered. But really, I found that Buddhism didn't make sense for everyone. It would let people live peaceful, pure lives, but if EVERYONE was pure Buddhist, then there would be little progress or innovation, since no one would ever follow their good desires or passions, and there would be no defending oneself against those who would attack. Islam doesn't incapacitate us in the way Buddhism does, in that we are given reasonable means to defend ourselves and to seek knowledge and indulge in other good passions.

I also liked Orthodox Judaism, but is was basically very similar to Islam, and I don't know anyone who truly follows it, nor have I ever heard of anyone who does. It seems like it has been obscured and overshadowed by modern-day Judaism, much like what has happened to Buddhism, and has been lost in time. Not saying that there are no orthodox Jews.. But, unlike Islam, there's no growth in it. It seems cultish.

Buddhism and Orthodox Judaism were the only religions I ever really considered. I was never into any of that "make my own religion" kind of religion, or "anti-organized religion" religion thing, because it was basically living one's life off of one's own inexperienced, unwise opinions. As Socrates said, "The wise man is one who admits that he truly knows nothing." In that case, I think I would seek guidance instead of trying to make up my own.

Also, I just have to say this, one of the major reasons why I follow Islam, I can't exactly put in logical words. I mean.. my heart is just drawn into it, unobstructed, without doubt. I really can't explain it.. but I have a feeling that I don't really need to. Yknow?

thank you for the compliment.
:]

and it's very interesting that you mentioned Buddhism because actually I used to be very interested in it. The idea of a completely peaceful religion and people doing good deeds to find a higher point in life. The idea of nirvana, it's really nice.
xD
I was also into Taoism and Confucius...all of these philosophies include being peaceful, respecting family, and doing everything for the betterment of society. I think that these philosophies are the reason for the amazing technological advancements in Asia and the way that there society runs. There really is virtually no stealing, random gang fights, and everything is based on the respect of family and elders.

but all in all, none of these have the satisfaction of Islam, none of them are as pure as Islam...they just don't compare.

*throws bless and respect at frifri* very well said, i like you atittude. though it does bring up some points.

The reason why other people dont understand islam or dont understand why we are so connected with our religion and even how we are so sucessful as human being sin general.

That reason is that we have read the Quaran and followed the teachings.

Or at least understood it. Most people who are athiest, and out of curiosity, have read the quran and fell in awe to the words of Allah.
They either converted to Islam or at least gained huge respect for hour religion.
I ask all athiests, (the one in between, ive forgotten the name for it) and people from other religions. Be you man or woman, rich or poor to simply read the Quran, even just a little. If you want to understand us, as muslims, individually and as a group. You truely have to undersand why we are doing what we are doing, and what our teachings are. and that can only be achieved by reaching the origin of our teachings, and that is god, Allah. The only way we can connect to Allah is the Quran, Prayer and being a muslim in yourself.

like they say, "keep your freinds close. But keep your enemies closer"
so give the next muslim you see a nice warm hug. (just not a woman, if you are a guy, it may be seen as offensive sweatdrop )

I am (for now) a Christian. I have looked inot ALL the world religions cuz I like to study Theology for Fun...yeah that's right! ...for fun. This sounds weird, but I was the most STAUNCH, knowledgable about my faith and firm in my Faith. I'm NOT bragging. I looked at Islam...and I kinda recognized the way the Holy Quran "speaks" and it reminded me of the Bible. I have done VERY IN-DEPTH comparitive study between Islam and Christianity and Iv'e come to the conclusion that Islam was the message of Moses, Jesus Christ, and all the other Prophets. Islam truly gives me all that I need. I have not made Shahadah (declaration of Faith) yet, but all I need is a group of Muslims in a Mosque to be wittnesses on my behalf (so to speak). Surley Allah is The All Merciful and Most Compassionate. If you want to know more about my kinda "former" Christian Faith and my call to Islam, just ask...i'm all ears.

I'm a Muslim by birth, and I love my religion. I've also checked out other religions, and well my religion made the most sense to me. No offense to any non-muslims though.. sweatdrop
