She all-out grinned as Akida promised to come back. It still seemed quite weird to her that their parents were really egging them on to spend time together, but if she got a friend out of it, it couldn't be a bad thing. Right? "That'll be so cool! I don't have any friends here; no one wants to hang out with me, so it'll be really nice to have a friend to play with!" Excitedly, she lightly bumped her shoulder with his.
She looked where Akida pointed, squinting in the distance, trying to see the rock as clearly as possible. "You live on that really big rock? But... don't you get all... afraid of heights up there, living on the top? Aren't you scared you might fall?" She knew she definitely would be scared of doing that. After getting stuck in a tree when she was much younger (chasing bugs again, tsk tsk), she wasn't so fond of high places and couldn't imagine ever wanting to climb that rock.

"Ah, its not thaat bad. Really, theres a huge path that goes up to it. And many other entrances. While the rock is huge, I never really go on it myself. I know mommy likes to go on it to view her kingdom ... but, I never really like going there myself. I'm kind of afraid of it, too. Since all my other 8 siblings would love to push me off the edge ..." He shivered at the thought of it all.
"Well, then! I guess we both made our first friend!" He grinned.

Her crimson eyes went wide, and she blinked at Akida owlishly, staring at him in complete and utter disbelief. "They would try to push you off? But... but... they're family! Why would they do that to you? It's not right!" The idea was completely foreign to her; family was a close-knit thing, in her eyes. There was nothing nasty and mean about it, other than the odd childish name-calling and shoving and the like.
She smiled, again leaning over to nudge his shoulder with hers. "Yeah! And such a nice friend, too."

"Because my siblings are cruel, of course." He sighed, and then looked back at Nerissa. His red eyes lit up as the other cub nudged him lightly. Smiling warmly, he nudged her back with a grin. "Just because they're family doesn't mean they will be nice to me. With eight other siblings, its hard to expect much from it all ..." He dreaded returning. Even though they were his blood, there was just too many of them. He'd rather stay here where it was nice and quiet. Despite how ... scary it looked.
He nodded in agreement when she mentioned them being friends. "Yes, i'm ... glad I met you, Nerissa. I'll surely find out why my parents have asked me to meet you. Maybe its just fate?" He shrugged and stood up as he looked towards the horizon, near the Pridelands. A smile graced his maw as he jumped down, and then padded a few feet away. His eyes were fixed on where he last saw his mother.
"Maybe ... its time I return to mother. She might wonder where I am ... you know? Though, I promise i'll come back someday. It might not be soon, but ... i'll make sure I come back to see you. I mean, how else can we stay friends?"

The young cub's jaw slackened and dropped at the mention of just how many siblings Akida had. "Eight?" she whispered, more to herself than him in truth. She couldn't imagine having that many to have to deal with. She struggled just putting up with her only sister, Froth. Her brother was easy to get along with, so much so that she barely noticed him around. But Froth was more than a pawful, and they were constantly arguing about anything and everything. Sibling rivalry to the extreme, in her opinion, though, compared to others, their situation really wasn't that bad. Still, she wasn't mature enough to think that way just yet.
She pushed the shocked look from her face and instead placed it with a wide grin that stretched from ear to ear, nodding her head in complete agreement. "I'm glad I met you, too. I like you a lot already, Akida. I hope we see each other again soon!"
She followed him down to ground level, shaking out her pale fur. "You better keep that promise, you hear? Otherwise we really won't be friends any more." She pondered a minute, following his eyes to the distant silhouette of Pride Rock. "And who knows... maybe one day I'll come and see where you live instead."

Akida nodded with excitement as he looked at her one last time. "Don't worry, Nerissa! I never break my promise. I'll be sure to come back soon, no matter what." At the thought of her visiting the Pridelands, his smile grew. "That would be awesome! I'd love for you to see just how the Pridelands are. Since i've seen where you live, of course." He grinned. Chuckling lightly, he looked back towards Pride Rock, and then took off in the direction of where he had come from not so long ago.
Maybe this wasn't a sad short goodbye, but the start of something that would last a whole lifetime.
