Whenever you want to do something, you just describe the action you are performing as best you can, like how Buick helped Antonia off the ground. In order to distinguish what you are doing in character (IC) or out of character (OOC), most people will use *'s and/or different colored texts to show when they are actually saying something IC versus describing what they are doing OOC.
