((I apologize for not having the map ready yet... yesterday was a really rough day. >_>; I will definately have it ready sometime this weekend.))
Maia Proudtail had just finished gathering a basket of berries and was headed back to her tribe, skirting along the treeline. Out of the corner of her eye she caught movement in the meadow, and she paused for a moment, watching... she soon spied the baby, recognizing it as a Cervitaur for its spots. "A deer-child... all by itself?" she pondered aloud. Carrying her berry basket at her side, Maia began to approach the little Cervitaur, wearing a smile and moving slowly and quietly as to not frighten her.
"Hi there," she called out, "are you lost, little one?"

Ceryn watched wide-eyed as the centaur approached her. Peering up at the taller 'taur, she smiled shyly. At the question, she shook her head, and pointed back to the forest where a human could be seen gathering herbs into a basket. "Ha'per t'ere!" she said in a high, piping voice.

"Ohh!" Maia's eyes widened slightly as she spied the human a short distance away. This seemed to please the centaur girl, because a wide smile lit her face. "So, the Cervitaurs too... good... very good."
She kneeled down on her horse-legs, placing the basket in front of her. "My name's Maia... what's your name?"

"Ceryn!" she said strongly, and giggled. Stepping forward carefully, she peered into the basket Maia had set down. "What?" she asked, pointing at it.
Hearing the voices, Harper stopped her gathering and approached. She hoped the older 'taur wasn't going to take the young one away from her. Her cloak fluttered in the soft wind, and she carried her walking staff with a loose grip that belied her proficiency with it.

The sound of voices rousing her from her nap near under the protective branches of a grand old tree Ayoka stretched peering about to see what had made the sound. Curled up next to her still fast asleep was another taur and a kitsune. The brown centaur smiled remembering that her guardian had told her that Riome would be staying with them while his gaurdian was away. Trying not to disturb her friends Ayoka stood and carefully extraced herself from the other too.
Foalen's bright eyes opened sensing movement and he leveled himself up so he could watch his young charge. Meanwhile Ayoka looked around to see if she could find the source of the voices.

"Ceryn, that's a pretty name," Maia said. She reached down to the basket and scooped up a handful of bright orange and red berries. "Would you like some? They're very sweet..." She popped one into her mouth as if to demonstrate that they were safe.
Maia tilted her head back toward the forest's edge, noticing as the human approached. She remained sitting for a moment, as if gauging the situation... some humans were still so unpredictable and flighty around her kind. But if the Cervitaurs have trusted this one, then surely that is a good sign, she thought to herself.
Another rustling nearby drew Maia's attention, and she grinned as she spied the dark-colored Centaur foal approaching. "Hello there, I think I recognize you..."

Swishing her tail happily at being recognized Ayoka smiled brightly. "Ayoka," She said pointing at her chest. Though she was more curious about the taur her own age.
"Hi", she said brightly to Ceryn with a wave.

Ceryn eagerly reached for some berries, delighting in the flavors that burst in her nouth. "MMmmmmmm" she happily hummed. She smiled up at the older Taur, content that she had met a new, nice friend. She danced slightly in place at the approach of another young taur close to her own age. "Heyla" she said a little shyly.
Harper walked up behind the young Cervitaur and smiled herself. In just a few short moments the young on had managed to get covered in the sweet juices. Reaching down, she ruffled Ceryn's soft hair, and was rewards by a slightly sticky pat from a small hand. "I'm Harper," she said to the older taur, leaning on her stick in a relaxed pose. "Wanderer, Amazon and temporary guardian to that young cervitaur over there" she pointed to where Ceryn and the other centaur were watching each other.

Maia stood up again, a gesture of respect for the human woman, leaving the basket of berries where the younglings could reach. "I am Maia of the Proudtail tribe," she said, her voice smooth and quiet, yet unafraid. "Welcome to the island of Meith Foraois. We don't see many of your kind here, though it has become a bit more common as of late. What brings you here?"

"Luck mostly, though what I though was ill seems to be turning fair. Shipwrecked I was, after escaping slavers who thought that an Amazon would be a good prize. I was on my way back to my homeland when the storms hit and....well, here I am! I found young Ceryn there within a few days of arrival. Poor little thing was huddled up against what remained of her mom, looked as though maybe wolves had gotten to her after a broken leg." The young woman stopped for a moment, looking around to make sure that the babies had not wandered to far. She smiled at seeing that they were both now covered in berry juice, and seemed to be making a game of painting each other. "We've got a nice little dry cave not far from here. Haven't seen any other humans in the two moons since I landed, nor have I seen anyone of her kind - or yours! Nice to be able to have a real conversation again. I figured I would raise her as I was, at least until I could find where she belongs."

Maia listened closely to Harper's tale, her ears swiveling at the explaination of how she had discovered Ceryn. "What terrible twists of fate on both your lives... though perhaps it was meant to be this way. The strangest webs bind us all, it seems."
She stepped forward slightly, one front hoof tapping the ground a few times as she considered what she had heard. "No... I'm not surprised you haven't seen anyone since you arrived. Most of our kind are skittish around the 'two-leggers,' as some call them." The young Centaur grinned. "But the ways of my people are not easily explained. Some Cervitaurs -- Ceryn's kind -- may object to you caring for her. But the Cervitaurs are strong and intelligent folk, and ultimately Ceryn will decide for herself where she belongs..."
Maia's eyes trailed back to the little fawn Taur, and she lowered her head momentarily as a pained look crossed her face. "Poor child. May her Mother's spirit find its way to the Otherlands in peace."

"Ay, that one has a mind of her own, as young as she is!" Harper smiled at her young charge, who was now spiking her soft hair using the juice. "I... I have started to teach her the ways of my people. She is already rather adept with staff, though my kneecaps bore the brunt of her learning. Now, if you will excuse us, I believe I need to get her cleaned up before she gets half the forest stuck to her. Should you need us, the cave is about a half league in near the double waterfall." She turned then, and gathering her sticky charge, led the young one back into the forest.

Having gone to play in the river with her guardian a freshly washed Ayoka ran across the meadow with a gleeful expression on her chubby little face. It was great fun to run. The wind raced past her and she felt a feirce happyness deep inside that she didn't really understand. All she knew was that this running as her guardian had called it was a very good thing. She waved to the foxling as he watched her from his tree.
