Perfections Nightmare

Okay, has anyone else had this happen? The state where I live just banned gay marriage with over 70 percent of the votes. In the bill description, mixed in with all of the other "marriage is for a man and a woman" statements, where hardly anybody just scanning over would see, it stated that the bill would also ban civil unions.

Well, a few days after voting, I went to my aunt's house for a family gathering. I asked her how she voted and she said she voted to ban gay marriage. I asked why, and she said something along the lines of: (ditzy voice) "Well, I really don't think that it should be called 'marriage' for gays. I think it should be called something else, like... joining, or... union..."
You mean CIVIL UNION? *frustration*

My question is this: Why civil unions? Gays have already been banned from being married, and I understand the argument about the bible. I just want to know where it says gays can't be in a civil union, and whether it's fair to trick people into banning it.

Well, we all should know how I stand on gay marriage.
Yes, it shouldn't be something religious because of the Bible, but I have good arguments against that.

The Bible talks about lustful sexual acts between a man and a man, or a woman and woman. There is never anything against homosexuals when it comes to love between a man and a man or a woman and woman.
So, I don't really think God's against loving someone of the same gender. For real.
But that's just how I interpret it.

As far as civil unions go, I see where there's no problem with it, but that's just me.
It's an act of bonding/committing yourself to one person. Forever.
And that's pretty powerful.
If someone wants to do that with their partner, so be it.

Now, questions for all...
do you think homosexuals should have the same rights as a straight person?
Do you think homosexual "marriage" should mean just as much as a straight marriage?
Do you think gay couples should get the same benefits as a straight couple?
etc.

I completely agree with you. Although, the bible does talk about same sex relationships being sinful, all of these opinions are voiced by humans and not by god himself. Also, homosexuality is supposedly genetic. If God created everything, then I think it's safe to say he created the gene for homosexuality too, and why would he create something just to send it to hell later on? I'm not really religious, but those are my feelings about it.

"Marriage," as it stands now, is just a technical term for two people who have rights over each other. When you're married, you get your certificate and you're legally bonded to each other. Whether you actually love the person or not is a whole 'nother story.
Banning marriage for gays doesn't exactly stop them from having sex or going on dates or anything else people in love would usually do. It stops them from having the same legal rights as anyone else, completely nullifying the idea of equal rights just because some people think it's icky to imagine two guys or two girls falling in love.

The Bible also says that Judas both killed him and and fell down the hill. For the most part I don't take the bible to serusly, I mean look at the food laws there are foods on that list that we now eat. For the people that are angast it there is a very simple solution... don't marry any one of the same sex.

Truthfully man... I have two gay friends and a Bi Friend (Male). My girlfriend has two Bi friends, (Male and female) that are dating one another, and a few les and Gay friends. I Live in Canada. There is a building here that Gay and Les and Bi People go and hang out.
Truthfully, I think they are still Human, So why shouldn't they be aloud to have what everyone else gets. Besides how much worse can they be then a girl and guy? Most marriages end of ending.

My Motto is, No Matter then Sex, Color, Sexual preference, Belief or Race. We are all Human. As long as you do not do something that hurts someone else you should be left alone and be let to live your life the way you want..

That sounds a lot like the rules on sex in the satanic bible. Basically, it says that anything is allowed (man/man, woman/woman, threesomes, bondage, etc.) As long as the other person consents and you're not hurting anyone. I think that should be the same principle applied to gay marriage.
