* Maya sat in her room with Spirit, still kind of stunned by the thread of strange events that had been being woven into that day. One of her mom's favourtite phrases was "Don't go looking for trouble." Was that what the three of them were doing? Looking for trouble? It seemed to Maya that there was something wrong with that saying. Really, how many people went looking for trouble on purpose? Not any that she knew. No, usually they were looking for something else and happened to meet trouble. Even if someone were to walk purposely into a dangerous situation, it was the thrill they wanted, or the chance to make things right, to remove the danger. They didn't want the trouble itself. Maya, Spirit, and Aly, they were just looking for answers to questions that were who knows how many decades old. A few minutes after Aly had left, Maya brought herself back to Earth, and looked at Spirit. "Do you want to go first or should I?" she asked.

*Spirit couldn’t sit still; her body ached with a combination of fear and excitement. Yes they might be walking into a trap that would put them danger of being killed but Spirit couldn’t help but get excited. This was the most exhilarating thing she had ever done. She had spent most of her life in her room reading and now that she as finally out living it felt good. Maybe that was what her mom had wanted for her when she told her to go to this party. That thought warmed Spirit and she felt her self smiling, how long had it been since she smiled? She couldn’t remember. Suddenly her eyes became watery and a few tears started sliding down her cheek, at the same time Maya asked her if she wanted to go first. “Oh, you go ahead,” Spirit answered as she turned her face away from Maya and she hoped that she didn’t detect her effort to stop the tears. It had been so long since she had cried for her mom and she knew that it would probably take a couple minutes to stop them. She really wished that Maya wouldn’t notice and just make her way to Aly’s room, she would be so embarrassed if Maya caught her crying.*

*Maya saw Spirit crying, and was going to ask if she was okay, but Spirit turned her head away. She must not have wanted Maya to know. Maya understood. It could be embarrasing to cry in front of people you don't know very well. She figured Spirit was alright, maybe just a bit scared. Maya pretended not to notice her tears. "Come join us in a few, okay?" Maya said to Spirit as she walked out the door. She tiptoed down the corridor to make less noise, but the floorboards still creaked. She decided to walk normally. The less noise you tried to make, the more noise you actually made. A thought suddenly occurred to her; she didn't know which room was Aly's. There were ten doors total. She would have to use process of elimination. One was Maya's, and one was Spirit's. One had a "Do not disturb" sign hanging on the door handle. That left seven possibilities. Maya walked up to a random door, leaned in against it, and listened. There was music playing softly inside, someone humming along. That wouldn't be Aly. She walked up to the next door. Whoever was in that room was screaming at someone over her cell phone. Five left. Suddenly, one of the doors opened. Maya darted swiftly into the common room right around the corner and hid behind a couch. A girl walked into the common room after Maya. She stopped to scan the bookshelf for some reading material. Maya held her breath and tried to keep as still as possible, given the uncomfortable, unbalanced position she was in. After choosing a book, the girl walked back towards her room. Maya got up from behind the couch when she heard the girl's door close. Obviously, Aly wasn't in that room, either. Maya walked up to another door and listened. She heard two girls giggling. Definitely not Aly's room. The room next to that room had its door wide open, probably the room of the girl who was in the other one with her friend. Maya glanced in. The room was empty. It wasn't very smart to leave your door open like that, especially under these circumstances. If that girl knew what Maya, Aly and Spirit knew, she probably would have bolted her door shut. Two doors remained. Maya pressed her ear against one door - silence. She didn't know what to make of that. She pressed her ear against the other. Once again, silence. She held her breath and strained to hear what was going on behind the door. She heard a faint rustling noise, and possibly a sigh. Whoever was behind this door was probably awake. Either this one or the other one had to be Aly's room, but it was probably this one. She was hesitant to knock. What if it wasn't Aly who answered the door? She could just tell whoever it was that she was looking for a friend, and had picked the wrong door. But would they be suspicious? Maya reminded herself that this dorm section was filled only with girls her age. They were looking for a good time, not the answers to a murder mystery or for people who were looking for the answers to a murder mystery. They wouldn't suspect anything. Maya was still nervous. She raised a hand, rapped lightly on the door three times, and waited for someone to answer.

*Aly's heart continued to pound within her chest. No matter what she tried to do, whether it was pacing or deep breaths, nothing seemed to stop her erratic heart. The room stayed motionless. Nothing moving, as if sensing her fragile state. Movements ago she was positive she heard a scream echoing in the hallways. But as she ran towards the door and forced it open, nothing was there. Niether Spirit or Maya was in sight and no other door appeared in her hallway. Aly was truly terrified. What kind of place did they room me in? She ignored the shivers running down her spine and quietly closed the door, counting the seconds until she heard the next scream. She had got to the number thirty- six when it happened again. Once more she ran to the door, only to find it emptied. Part of her told her she should go out and look, but the majority told her to stay put. And like all the other selfish people in the world, she listened to the little devil resting on her shoulder. She shut the door, attempting to block out the strange illusions surrounding her. This time she counted to twenty-six when she heard a knock on her door. Her heart nearly jumped out of her chest when she heard that knock, and slowly made her way towards the door. Each second itched by and the door seemed to get farther away. I should run. She thought and estimated how far she would get. However, this time she did not let the nerves get the best of her. She slowly reached out for the handle and opened it slowly, revealing the girl standing just outside her door. Aly let out a small scream before covering it with her hands. "Maya!" She sighed with relief. "Come in please." With her nerves still in a bundle, she moved out of the way, revealing her room to Maya. *

*"Hey," Maya said. She was as relieved as Aly sounded at that moment. She stepped inside. "Are you okay?" she asked her. Maya analyzed Aly's face. Her forehead was creased with worry, her mouth shaped into a little frown. She was pale, looking like she was about to be sick. In her eyes, Maya saw fear, like the kind a small animal would have if it was being hunted by a much larger predator. Maya knew that this whole night had been filled with scares, and that it would be uncomfortable to spend the night in a place with such dark secrets hidden beneath its elegant exterior, especially if they were the only ones who knew of those dark secrets. But they were not in immediate danger, and Aly looked as terrified as though they were. Maybe, thought Maya, she saw or heard something that scared her. Maya considered the possibilities. Earlier this night, the manor had seemed regal. Now its reputation was tainted in their minds by its demons; stories of murder hidden in the shadows of the past, where no one would think of looking. No one except the three of them. Maya was beginning to understand Aly's fear more and more. You never knew who could be listening, or who wanted their secrets kept hidden. Maybe it wasn't so irrational - Aly's fear of being discovered, of someone trying to stop them. Whatever was haunting Aly, Maya needed to know. "What's wrong, Aly?"

*Aly could feel her mind itching to confide in Maya. She needed comfort in knowing that her mind was not suffering from insanity. Could it be that all the previous cases finally got to her? Elders had warned her that the brain and the heart could only take so much suffering. The gruesome sights of the deaths and mystery cases would be forever sketched in her minds; haunting her dreams. Instead, like every other time, she found another reason to dwell on. It occurred to Aly that Spirit had not joined them yet. Surely, she could have no reason for such a long absence. Aly had insisted that they travel one by one to her lodgings, but she did not expect the intervals to be so long. "I'm fine," Aly replied sternly, a clear case that she was in no mood for an open discussion. She pursed her lips and excused herself for a moment. Aly was embarrassed that she was dressed only in a nightgown, and quickly made her way to the powder room where she would be able to compose herself. She placed on a robe quickly, and once satisfied she made her way back to Maya. "Have you seen Spirit?" Aly asked Maya. "What could possibly be taking her so long?" *

*Spirit couldn’t sit still, after Maya left she got up and started to pace back in forth as she clamed herself down. She wiped away the tears from her cheeks and took a few deep breathes before she decided that it was probable best if she made her way to Aly’s room. Before she wet out into the hall she took one last look at Maya’s room, she wondered if they had missed anything and that there could be clues in all their rooms, but she guessed that if they didn’t find anything else in Aly’s room then they look in other places. Slowly Spirit opened the door and made her way down the hall. Trying to make sure she kept a steady pace she walked over to Aly’s door and knocked, “Aly, Maya… it’s me.” She said into the door, as she waited for them to respond.*

The night is long, you’ve all talked into the early morning and the excitement of the day has leaked into the evening to find a different kind of excitement, foreign to your female sensibilities. These events lie heavily on your limbs and eyelids and you find conversation flagging. You all agree eventually, that you should depart to your separate rooms to sleep. Mysteries and murders will wait until the mornings light.
It was early enough when you woke that the birds twittered playfully outside your window, calm enough that when the same butler from the evening before knocks on the door to your communal room, you are all given a small fright. Soon enough you calm, laughing nervously at one another for such skittishness. The butler, whose name still alludes you, looks even older somehow in the fresh light of the morning. At least he seems to fit the surroundings of this archaic wing. His wrinkles seem to shift of their own accord as he speaks, his voice is low and rasping as if half of the dust in the home has settled on his lungs over the years. “Breakfast is served M’ladies in the Orchid Room”.

None of you feel particularly as if you want to eat, your heads still reeling at the thoughts of murders decades before- however, you must keep face, and one by one you return to your rooms to dress quickly, into soft day garments, cotton dresses and slips. Each of you applies the barest covering of makeup, one or two of you covering redness of the eyes- before meeting in the common room once more and nodding silently to one another before making your way down to breakfast. You eat quickly, fruit salads and nutritious cereal mixes, chatting softly to one another as you listen to the ringing of laughter from nearby tables, joy that seems stifled despite the grandeur of your surroundings and the sun shining through the shining bay windows. After the dishes have been cleared, the old butler brings each table a letter on a silver platter. The letters are sealed in wax and written in looping ink, but all read the same.

My dear guests, forgive me for not breakfasting with you this morn, however, I have arranged for you all to take a trek with the horses of the manor this morning. The stables are a half miles walk across the courtyard to the east, our Riding Instructor Master Thomas, will fetch you from this room after you have had time to change into more suitable attire. The trek will be a four hour ride over our beautiful moors, and I’m sure you will enjoy it thoroughly.
Your humble host, Lady Maurelle.

The letter secures the first in the promised string of activities that the getaway had promised, and you feel your spirits lifted by the idea of open air and countryside. You all make your way back to your rooms to change and are soon back into the Orchid Room, and are greeted by a tall, dark and rather swarthy man in riding gear, who you can only assume is Master Thomas, and he is quick to confirm such. His accent is smooth and local, clipping the t’s off of some of his words. You instantly feel a warmth towards him, though his posture and face suggest only the highest mannerisms.
After waiting for the rest of the guests to arrive, you head out of the main doors and across the gravel of the courtyard.
The walk was pleasant enough, the air smelt fresh and clean in the morning and it seems to clear the worries from your heads a little. The gravel ends soon enough and you begin to walk the short path to the stables, it is well cut but muddied and strewn here and there with a little hay. You talk to one another will mirth in your voices, and turning to scold Aly for a cheeky remark Maya catches her foot in a turn in the ground. She falls with enough force to make her cry out, and you girls crowd around her, concerned. Soon enough Master Thomas is crouching by her side, pressing cool fingers into the ankle that is already beginning to swell. “You’ll have to go back to the mansion and rest, I’m afraid” he tells Maya, a look of regret on his face. “Don’t worry, I’ll take you back” and before you can protest, his arm is slung around her waist supporting her as she limps softly on her good ankle. “Go ahead ladies and gents, the stables are just a way up from here, I’ll be back soon enough to help you tackle the horses” his voice is soft, but stern enough and you find yourselves doing as he says, with only a few looks of concern and kind words for your friend Maya.
It’s not long before you reach the stables, they are long and constructed from old oak. Sturdy, they could have easily been there since the turn of the century. There are almost thirty resident horses, and you can hear their snorts and the soft clatter of hooves as they move about. There is also the laughter and chatter of boys nearby, the stable hands. It is a small time before Mater Thomas arrives and you girls find yourself being chatted up by a stable boy or two, you are not particularly interested but decide to use the situation to your advantage, asking them about any strange murders in the house, saying that you’ve heard roomers about haunting.
“Well, don’t know about no ghosts miss”
one local boy says, docking his cap with a sly smile and a wink of wide blue eyes under dark lashes,
“But we dun’ hear about the paintings in the house, they say some of them family were good and murdered! You hear more about the rich dyin here in Goscott than us normal folks, so don’t you be worryin your pretty little heads missus”
“Eye!” Pipes in Henry, a little blonde, dirty boy
“Only them curses you gotta worry about!” he says, backing up his claim with a wave of his hands and “whooooo!” noises.
“Now now boys!!!” comes a voice from behind you, you jump a little, but are comforted to find that it is only Master Thomas returning from the house.
“Non of that. There’s nought reason scaring our guests over nothing” he says a little darkly, giving the stable boys a stern look, and hushing any backtalk quickly by ordering them ready and bring the horses for the Trek.
“Don’t worry m’ladies” Thomas says “Your friend is well, and in the library to rest and read for the day”

Library scene.

The day was becoming an eventful one, the letter from last night continuously plaguing her mind as Maya sat within her chair, dwarfed either side my massive arches leading further down to archaic books, dusted in old age and antiquity. She sat pouting as she thought to her friends, more then likely already set off on there trek, while she sat whiling away the hours in a dark, stuffy library, her foot throbbing at every tiny movement, cursing her luck under her breathe at such mindlessness. Her gaze moved from one corner to another, trying to find some entertainment in this empty room, void of all other life. Slowly ascending to stand behind her chair, wincing at the slightest lurch, Maya hobbled over to a bookstand residing near to one of the large stain glass windows, she viewed the contents available to her. Most where of no interest to her, and others either of another language or to battered to make any sense from it.
Drawing a finger softly along the spines she abruptly stopped, glued to a book, head tiled slightly to the side Maya mumbled the name out loud;
“Witch trails – The Finagot Parish”
Taking the book firmly in her hand she pulled, encountering small resistance, returning to her seat she sat down, and studied the cover, leather bound and battered it was obviously not of this century, the letters standing out in gold emboss. Opening the book slowly Maya studied a line of photographs, all old, wrinkling at the sides, black and white people peering out from another place altogether, Stopping suddenly Maya peered ever closer to one picture, of an old building, large in stature a crowd bustling about at the foot or the stairs, servants and gents alike going about there every day lives; realisation hit her suddenly, drawing in a small breath, the picture within this book was the very same that they were residing in.

A few hours later, sat within another lavishly decorated room they conversed over today’s happenings, three of the females wearing splattered riding clothes, the other sat nursing her bruised leg, servants milling about with silver platters of steaming savouries as hushed whispers filtered back and forth over this one table.

*Curiosity blazed within Aly's eyes, as her mind ached with more gossip the grooms had renounced. She felt her posture grow rigid as Master Thomas announced his presence, and she offered a curt nod towards the grooms before she scurried towards Spirit. With Maya's absence, she felt that she was responsible for picking up any dropped pieces. She had listened intently while Master Thomas reprimanded the grooms for telling such lies, but she knew there was truth stirring deep within. The groomsmen sly smiles, Master Thomas' quick dismissal, and the mentioned curse. Together, the thoughts consumed her mind and took control of her senses. Her eyes never left Master Thomas as she silently marched to Spirit. From the moment she encountered him, she felt a spark ignite. It was one of a curious nature, and perhaps, one that would lead her to the questions she sought about the murder. The town knew more then what they were letting on, as well as the instructors. The secrets were well hidden and contained. To find the answers they all sought would be the greatest challenge of all, and it required the outmost dedication. Aly pushed the thoughts that consumed her from her mind, and turned back to Spirit and the horses. *

*Spirit’s mind fluttered with the adventures of the day along with numerous questions that she wanted desperately to be answered. She had enjoyed the ride they had gone on and was disappointed that Maya was not able to go with them and hoped that she was ok. Not only had the adventure been enjoyable but some of the stable hands had told them a little information about the curse, which was proof that this mystery was not only known by her Maya and Aly. What concerned Spirit was how Master Thomas had been the only one to dismiss the curse as a rumor; it made her think that maybe some of the people who had worked here for a long knew more then what they were willing to say. Letting out a sigh Spirit took a quick glance around her, the room they were in was, like every other room, beautiful and it amazed Spirit on how well this old place was kept. The guests had all relaxed in their seats as they talked about the days ride and how sore they were now. Turing to Aly, Spirit bent close so that only Aly could hear her, “Do you think we should go find Maya?” Spirit whispered, “I want to tell her about what the stable hands told us.” Spirit was amazed at how comfortable she felt with Aly and Maya, after that night Spirit hadn’t felt out of place around them and it actually felt like she was making friends.*

Serinity soft lavernder eyes looked around confused ''I hope they are not to mad that I am so late''Serinity thought as she looked down at the invite she had gotten .Serinity had never in her life left her country before ,but she was so excited when she had gotten the invite that she quickly booked the next ship leaving to Scotland, but now she was terribley lost ''I know it should be easy to find with a map yet I am still lost ''Serinity thought looking at the map in confusion as her eyes dimmed slightly. Serinity heard a noise and turned, looking confused but smiled the noise had been the wind blowing a sign, and luckly it was what she was looking for, the sign read Goscott; the sign was elegent and made Serinity smile happily, she was happy that she had finally found the place her she was looking for, soft rose petal lips smiled in a hopeful expression as she hoped her host would not be too angery at her Serinity ran a hand over forehead and wiped away the hair that was getting in her eyes .Serinity had long, silken almost black brown hair it had streaks of red and blond in it from the sun, her hair was pulled back into an elegent braid that went well past her hips. Serinity body was long and slender, her hips were nice and round not to much but just enough that it accented her legs and her bust was round and full. Serinity was a bit short being only 5'4 but she was happy being small, Serinity skin was a soft pale ivory with a bit of a sun kissed tan that made her over all look very health and happy and Serinity light lavender orbs eyes always had a soft and curious look to them. Serinity's dress was simple but elegant, she wore a soft powerder, pale royal purple dress that was long which had dark purple accents which was in the front was dark purple silken cords that crossed each other in an x pattern and on the sleeves that went past her fingers hiding them from view was deep purple lace that looked like small rose petals dancing in the wind. On Serinity's back was a dark purple cape whiched helped to keep her warm and in her long hair she had a light lavender ribbon weaved through it. On her neck was a choker, the ribbon was a dark purple and the pendant hanging from it was of a light purple. Serinity wore very little make up, over her eyes was a soft lavender eyes shadow, her cheeks had a soft blush to add more color to her face and on her lips was a soft rose pink rogue. As Serinity walked down the path she kept glancing at the map and invite making sure she found the right address, when Serinity finally looked up again she gasped ''I knew it would be impressive but this is amazing''Serinity thought seeing the house that the invite had told her to go to .Serinity eyes seemed to sparkle with excitement as she walked down the path to the house gazing at all the things around her until she got to the door she nervously began to nibble on her bottom lip as she knocked on the door hoping she was in the right place

*Maya reached a hand down to rub her sore ankle. She sucked in a breath through her teeth. Man, it hurts, she thought. She tried to block out the pain by thinking about what she saw in that old book. Why had "Witch Trails" been in the title? And where was Finagot Parish? A parish is a church, she thought, I'll have to tell Aly and Spirit about this when they get back. Maybe we can try to find it. Maya hoped they had a nice time out. Riding horses was a good way to forget one's worries for a while. Maya knew they would be back any minute though, and she tried to think of ways to explain what she read and saw to them. Maya wondered if the book had been written or at least published at the time of Louis. Maybe there would be information in it about the murder, if she read a little farther...Maya jumped at the sound of the knock on the door. Her wild imagination threw images of murderers and ghosts into her head. Get a grip, she told herself. It was probably just another guest arriving at the manor, not some evil, scary thing. Maya stopped one of the house keepers who was passing by and asked her if she would mind getting her a glass of water. The house keeper replied that of course she wouldn't mind, and that she would be back with one right away. When she came back, Maya thanked her, gave her a grateful smile and sipped the cold water. It refreshed her, mind and body. Maya closed her eyes, took a couple deep breaths and then went to the Orchid Room to wait for Spirit and Aly's return.

*A curt nod to the head was Aly's brief reply. Perhaps it was the consistent thoughts that entranced her mind, or Aly’s lack of conversational skills that kept an eerie and awkward silence with Spirit. It was not that she was ill at ease with Spirit’s presence; on the contrary, Aly felt comfortable with Spirit. Almost as if, they had been friends for decades. Instead, Aly was just too detained with other pressing matters to focus. Aly’s eyebrows furrowed in, and a small frown formed on her once peaceful place. Her long, brown curls were plastered across her forehead as the sun’s rays continued to beat down upon her. A small, yet audible sigh escaped from Aly’s enclosed lips. The sporadic sounds and clues left Aly considering the fact that the mansion was haunted. She had never been so bothered by a case as this one. With a sideway glance at Spirit, Aly broke into a run. She needed to get to the library quickly so that they would have time to communicate with Maya. With any luck, Maya had found something that would strike a cord; hit the nail on the head; anything to keep her hopes alive. It was near the entrance of the mansion when her eyes noticed an outline of a person outside of the door. Her breathing was coming in gasps, as she slowed to a walk. “May we help you?” Aly asked politely to the lone figure huddling outside of the doorway.*

*Spirit’s eyes widen in surprise. She hadn’t expected Aly to just start to run off. Spirit looked around her; the other guests that were paying attention seemed to be as surprised as her. Giving a shy smile to the ones watching Spirit began to run after Aly, hoping it seemed like they were playing sort of game. She always hated being the center of attention and as she ran she could feel the stares of others on her back. As she got closer she noticed that Aly had stopped and seemed to be talking to someone. Slowing down Spirit came to a walk and went to stand behind Aly and see who she had met.*
