Well, since I heard about Asashina's story on how her friend was hacked 'cause she clicked a link that was supposed to go to the avatar arena, but didn't, I was scared to click avatar arena links for fear I would get hacked.
I got a PM today asking me to vote for her in the Arena.
I got supicious, but didn't report it.
Do you think this is a hacking thing just like what happened to Asashina's friend?

Woah, you can get hacked by clicking links? That's kinda creepy.
Yeah, I agree.. Look up her name. But isn't getting a PM asking you to vote spam anyway?

You can get hacked by clicking links that take you to a fake Gaia log in page with YOU logged out, and then putting in your password and username. sweatdrop
The only links that hack you just because you clicked on it are the ones with keyloggers - a form of spyware - and again, you can easily inspect the URL. It might look like a Gaia one, but there'll be an extra 'site.xxx' added in or something.
Or it won't be a Gaia one at all. :U
Its good to treat things with caution, but save reporting for when you're absolutely sure they're a hacker, or a spammer with a keylogger, or whatever.

That's exactly what I did. I deleted the message and looked the girl up in the avi arena. And she was there. but better safe than sorry.

 Keyloggers make me so mad. Like if they want gold, why don't they get it the easy way? Get off their lazy asses and post. Seriously it makes me like so mad to think that someone who just take someone's hard-earned items.

<3 OMG no way! that's creepy. That's happened to me alot. But i've never been hacked. I hope that's not what it is.

It would have saved me a lot of grief and pain.
I just recently lost my main Toon.
First I got directed to a log in page.
I logged in wondering wtf was going on.
I got back in but was soon logged back out of my account.
I jumped onto a mule after many unsuccessful attempts to log back in or recover my pass from my e-mail (which got promptly changed by the hacker).
My profile got put on private.
I watched as my avvies appearance was changed.
And witnessed over several days on my friend list that the hacker was posting on my character and then deleting said posts afterwards.
I searched the items that I knew my avvie had had before getting hacked, and found everything on sale in the shop.
The items were sold one by one.
I lost about 500-600k gold in one night.
I posted in the help forums and got flamed by some jackass without a single ounce of compassion in his/her heart.
Soon after three other people got on my thread and told him/her to bug off and defended me!
Their actions of being kind to me, giving me advice of what to do, and offering their support were the only reasons why I stuck around on Gaia at all after that fiasco.
My character now is probably worth as much if not more than the last one.
That was about three or so months ago.
I still haven't gotten any information back on my account, accept for getting it temporarily disabled by a moderator.
:3 And for those who have gotten hacked, I'm deeply sorry and I feel your pain.
