Warnings: Nothing that I can think of.
Notes: No dedications or anything. This is just a little drabble-y thing I wrote one day because there isn't enough fan anything about this pairing. And that makes me sad.

When it happened, Vaan hadn’t been expecting it. How could he have? There had been no lead-up to it, no hint at what the elder sky-pirate was planning. Heck, they hadn’t even been talking at the time. The two of them had simply been standing there in the Crystal Glade, waiting for the rest of their party to catch up. Vaan had his arms up, fingers interlocked behind his head and his eyes on the sky. Despite the fact that he was looking at that great blue expanse with its large fluffy clouds, he wasn’t really seeing it. Instead he was doing what he did best; daydreaming about that glorious day in the future when he would have an airship all his own. So when Balthier’s hand with all its multi-colored rings waved suddenly just in front of his upturned face, he jumped just slightly. Scowling at the interruption to his daydream, he lowered his face to find out just what it was that his companion wanted.
He didn’t get the chance.
Before he could open his mouth and get a word out, his lips were covered with Balthier’s own. It didn’t last long, just a few moments, but it was enough to send his eyebrows to his hairline and for his eyes to double their size in shock.
When Balthier pulled away his own face was covered with a satisfied half-smirk, brown eyes alight with mischief. Both of which turned into full-blown amusement after taking in the street-thief’s own stunned expression. Snapping his jaw (which had fallen open after Balthier released his lips) shut, Vaan blinked and focused on the sky-pirate standing before him.
“Umm…what…err…” He stuttered out, not quite knowing what he wanted to say or just how to say it. Balthier chuckled.
“What, Vaan? I am a sky-pirate.” He offered in explanation, eyes traveling briefly beyond the teenager’s shoulder to the rest of their approaching party before they returned to Vaan’s face. He still looked a bit shocked, but now a good deal of confusion was mixed in his expression as well. Still grinning Balthier patted the blonde’s shoulder as he walked past him, speaking as he did so. “And, if you plan on becoming one yourself you should know that a sky-pirate always takes what he wants.”

Le end. I'm currently working on another fanfic of this pairing. Perhaps I'll post that when I finish with it as well. smile
