My mother thinks it is a ***** fashion, "adults wearing children's clothes" she says... At 18 years old, she considers I am an adult eek .
I think "adult" is the ugliest word of all and should be banned.

What can I answer to that?! I mean, it stopped wearing revealing clothes when I started Lolita! She can't be sad about it!

+As bad as this advice may be I would just prove her wrong and buy it then proceed to where it regularly so that she trusts you and it shows her that it's not just a trend.

My mum likes the more gothic and ero areas of rori which is kind of annoying as I'm more on the classic and sweet areas.

She knows she hasn't got a choise anyway really, I get my brother to do all my online shopping for me (I'm 15) and he doesn't check what I'm buying until afterwards. So far I've snuck 2 pairs a rocking horses, 3 Gosu Roris and an AP tote, and I'm planning an order from Anna House with a friend and my mum won't find out what I'm buying until its here.

My advise, just be a stubborn b***h and buy what you want, and then prove her wrong and where it just about everywhere.

Parents sometimes just don't understand their own kids.

Agreed, "adult" isn't the most pleasant nor the most accurate word. Everyone's maturity level is different and people mature at different rates. "Adulthood" is reached at different times for different people. I don't believe 18 to be the point of passage... I know of many 18 year olds and I seem to be more mature, apparently, though they are older. So I agree. 3nodding

My mom wondered why I would want to dress like a ***** dream (biased on the book "Lolita") before I showed her my G&L Bible Extra.

Adult is a stupid word. I'm 18 'an adult' and still look and act more like 15/16

Yeah I could be lusting after $100 jeans that are ripped to shreds and super low cut or something 0.o be glad it's lolita and not something super whorey!

Buy the dress, and wear it many times. I'm not saying every day, but make good use of it. In years to come you might have more lolita clothing and she will see that you really do love it and it won't die out after 3 wears.

My mum is weird about this sort of thing. She'll very rarely tell me 'no', she'll just make fun of me. A lot. sweatdrop She keeps saying that I'm turning into a cupcake.

I really want to go to Japan, but I don't speak much of the language yet, and besides, it's not like I'd get to anyway. My older sister went twice, but I couldn't come with 'cos it was too expensive.

Don't let the language barrier scare you.

You'd be surprised at the number of people who understand/speak English, or can direct you in the way of someone who does.

But yeah... its super expensive to get over there. sweatdrop

The Bibles are coming out in english?!?!

As for your mother, there's not a huge chance you'll convince her, so just keep dressing the way you love and try to ignore her.

Wow, that's a long time for a fashion to be around, I knew it got popular in the 90's but it's hard to think that far back in time is really 10 or 15 years. o.o I've liked anime ever since middle school and I haven't gotten out of that yet, so I guess that's one thing.

And lol my mom doesn't have Fashion at all. She barely wears make-up and her daily wardrobe is Tee and jeans or Sweater and jeans. XD

I just know she'll mention all the cards (Pokemon/Yu-Gi-Oh) and even beanie babies that we spent tons of money one and now are sitting on shelves doing nothing >_<

Gah, I get this point every time I bring up Lolita to my mother. Of course, its good for me I still play the pokemon games x3

but seriously, My mother hates it as well, and when I went to Japan I still spent almost $300 on designer clothes >w<

She gets irritated when I try to wear it out of the house, and is always trying to convince me I look too young in it (score for the Loli)

What I did that changed her mnd though, was try to get her involved by helping and teaching me. I am generally a self-starter and hate having to ask for help, but since my mother know how to sew really well, I have made her interested because its a way for us to spend time together. I learn about sewing and she learns about the good aspects of Lolita; confidince, caring about your appearence, not dressing slutty, etc.

You'll work it out somehow :3

My mother is like that too. She doesn't fully understand what lolita is and thinks it's just a phase or something even though I've liked loved it forever.
