We can't forget about Dracula. He is the original vampire after all. I do not know much about him myself. So I decided to make a Dracula discussion. Maybe someone can help me. heart

Dracula urban myth is a man who drinks the blood of young women to stay immortal.
Dracula the historical version is a man who was born into royalty in Romania. His name was Vlad Tepes Dracula. His father chose the name from Dracul which means Order of the dragon, but at the time it also meant demon. So Dracula either meant order of the dragon or Son of the Devil. At this time in history the countries Turkey and the Hungary were at war. Vlad was in a province named Wallachia in Romania. It was in the middle of the two countries at war, and was used to fight each other. His family was under control of the two countries and most of them were killed. His dad was murdered and his brother was taken by turks I believe. Vlad became ruler and was under pressured. Vlad joined Hungary side and was going to be attacked buy turks. He lost the battle, but had a method to make turks leave. He used his own people as threats by killing them and impaling them with spears to hang in the air which gave him people the idea of a blood thirsty monster. Nuff said- mrgreen

Nuff said- mrgreen Correction: Dracul, his father's title, meant Devil or Son of the Dragon. Drăculea is derived from that. Dracul means devil now, but back then it meant also Demon or Dragon. Comes from the latin Draco meaning Dragon... The Order of the Dragon was an order of nobles made by Emperor Sigismund. smile

Has anyone of you watched the film "Prince Of Darkness"? It's supposedly the "True History Of Dracula".
I watched it last night (Probably for the 10th time) and yes, although it contains some historical refferences, I couldn't help but notice the director took several creative liberties with the film.

Someone who actually knows Vlad's story! I applaud you! Indeed, Vlad the Impaler was a terrible man worthy of recognition and the originator of many myths, but he wasn't the original vampire, neither in literature nor in folklore. Myths and stories of spirits of the dead sucking the blood of the living have been around since Greek and Roman times and even if they have changed considerably with age, they were the first vampire myths. As for literature, Le Fanu's Carmilla was born 25 years before Bram Stoker's masterpiece and my personal favourite, Varney the Vampyre (or The Feast of Blood) was published another 25 years prior. And even he wasn't the first!
