Upon days of his swirled hide catching the hot rays of the summer sun, the brute of an Aeri had taken to a lax training nearly every morning. He didn't really have a need to do so, but by flexing his muscles and toning his body, the stallion liked to believe few would dare even come up to him. That's how he wanted it. Never did he desire an innocent conversation with some stranger, never did it cross his mind to try and make 'friends'. It was better that way, he had discovered with a rather bitter twinge from the back of his mind.

Flicking that little stub of a tail of his the nearly 18 hand brute had come to once again relax with his thick neck arched and bowed towards the ground; greedy lips snatching up the stalks of grass as they tickled his muzzle. The day was nearly over now, the cool air had begun its journey down into the valley, and Zak had his mind set on dinner. Certainly, he was sure, not one would approach him at the moment; lest they had some sort desire for a good pounding. At least, it was that thought that kept a thick smirk at the very tips of his muzzle, pulling at his lips with such a faintness when he ate, it nearly looked like snarl.

A small, delicate form galloped across the fields of the valley, a small bundle of white fur with multi-colored spots attached to her back. It was almost time for the sunset, she knew, and was quite excited to see it. Just up ahead was the perfect place to watch it, she had found out from her wanderings around the valley. Her little furry friend hadn't seen a perfect sunset yet, so she was determined that he should see one. As she raced over the top of the hill, a green figure met her eyes, and she paused. A giant of an Aeri he was. His bat-like wings and lack of horn betrayed his breed. Wonderful! She thought with a grin, racing down the side of the hill towards him.

She stopped near him, prancing around him in a circle. "Hi there! My name's Nizhoni, but you can call me Niz. What are you doing here? Are you here to watch the sunset too?"

Skittles clung to Niz's tendril wings as if his life depended on it -- which it did -- and nearly toppled over when she stopped, then started again. Jolted, bounced, and shaken more than he cared to be, he still couldn't complain. Once she stopped and started talking, he dared to sit up and peer around her head to the giant brute ahead of her. Niz seemed oblivious to the over three hands difference between them, but he was not, and his ears fell back immediately. Not because he was going to snarl or growl, but because he felt like a little pipsqueak. If he had wanted to talk, the only thing that would have come out of his mouth would have been an 'eep.'

Boy was it a splendid time of day to be cropping at the grass. The sunlight wasn't blaring into his eyes, his hide wasn't itching from the heat, and he had absolutely no need to be on his guard. Who would be out at this time of day anyways? Pfft, not many, and so he figured his chances were pretty good. Yup, nothing at all to-

"Holy blazing hell fire!" the words left his lips as a sudden movement to his side sent his large hooves reeling off into a startled balk, nearly plowing his rump right into her shoulder. The large Aeri was not very graceful in his movements, and in doing so he stepped back a bit to regain his balance, bewildered crimson eyes meeting the tiny figure as she spoke and... pranced? His bewilderment soon turned into aggrivation as his nostrils flared in a hard snort. Perhaps his appearance wasn't going to spook away all intruders on his personal space.

With a hearty shake of his massive head, sending his short mane into disaray, the brute turned a furrowed eye onto the creature that rode upon her back, then to the mare herself once more. Ugh, how he hated the little beasts, he always had to be careful around them so one of his large hoofs wounldn't flatten them instantly. "Uh... no. I was just finishing up dinner", he stated blantly, still trying to figure out what had went wrong in his plan. Maybe next time he should keep his ears back.

The little fluffball let out an 'eep!' as Zak yelled due to his surprise. He ducked down, trying to look as small as possible on Niz's back, which wasn't that hard. He could tell this Aeri wasn't one to mess with, even if the creme mare couldn't tell.

She continued prancing, ears perked. "Oh, okay! Well you're in the perfect place to see the sunset, lucky you! I like to come here a lot to see the sunset, it's so pretty. Do you like the sunsets? Are you glad you can see one tonight?" She stopped her prancing fit to look him over, ears still perked, emerald green eyes studying the pale green creature before her. He was at least a foot taller than her, but she didn't seem to mind, if she even noticed. If this giant brute was a threat, she couldn't tell at all. "Oh! What's your name? I told you mind! What's yours?"

"Uh... Niz? Why dun we leave the nice Aeri alone so he can finish his dinner? We could go 'n find ourselves some dinner.." The little rit suggested. Sticking around to see whether this giant of an Aeri was hostile or not didn't seem appealing. Remembering his manners before Niz did, though, he peered around her neck at the giant. "I'm Skittles, but the way," he said, then ducked back so he couldn't see Zak anymore.

The poor stallion didn't even know where to begin, if he were to try and chase her away, would the mare just think it a game? It was a bitter thought which only proved to aggrivate his temper all the more. With a hard flick of his stub of a tail, the Aeri had found himself to be toungue-tied up until the point the little puffball spoke up. "Delightful", he nearly mumbled between his teeth.

Actually, it wasn't till up to this point that he realized his aggrivation was close to the feeling he got nearly everyday; thinking of that pompus blood bay jala. Aitumn. A very visable twitch came from his hide as his mind made a connection to the annoyence of the mare, and the rage he harbored for the Jala stallion. Harsh crimson eyes once more met the mare and her form, she was Itcha at least. With a snort he was about to turn his bulk around and head in the opposite direction, when he remembered quite an interesting encounter will a little red Bae. Hmmm... that gave him an idea.

"Actually, I hadn't a clue this was the best place to see the sunset", Zak spoke up, his tone significantly changed to something a little less hostile. With a lightly interested perk of his ears, the stallion walked a half circle around the back of the mare, perhaps a bit to close for comfort, but came to a nice halt right at her shoulder, which gave him a good view of Skittles. "My name's Zaknafein by the way, and I must stress you do not call me Zak, its not as flattering." A joke? From the vengeful Aeri? My oh my what did he have up his sleeves this time?

The poor little rit hunkered down as best he could, ears flat against his skull and his eyes wide. This aeri was big enough to eat him!! The thought scared him witless until he remembered a second or two later... Nequus were herbivores. Oh. Right. Now he felt stupid and terrified. Lovely.

"You didn't?" The dainty Ichsa mare exclaimed, eyes wide, unable to understand how he didn't know this was a good place to see the sunset. How could anyone not know something as important as that? "Well you're in luck! This is the best place to see it!" She couldn't help but grin. Poor Aeri wouldn't have seen the sunset if she had wandered along. It was lucky for him she came.

"Zaknafein?" She had to repeat his name herself, for her own benefit, saying it slowly so she wouldn't mess it up. "But that's so long! It's a lovely name and suits you well, but it's a bit long to say whenever someone needs to say your name. Why can't anyone call you Zak? It's a perfect nickname for you!"

Niz always amazed Skittles; how could she be so innocent, without fear? Either nothing was scary to her, or she was just completely oblivious to it all. From his experience, it seemed to be the latter. She wasn't scared that this giant Aeri could snap them both like a twig? He did seem to be a bit less irritated now, though, so maybe he wouldn't hurt them? He was still a bit too close for comfort... Best to stay as small as possible.

"Oh no, I haven't been in this certain spot very long, so I wouldn't have known", the swirled stallion explained, one of his eyebrows lifting slightly as he peered over at the cowering rit. How much fun the Aeri would have chasing the poor fellow off, but unfortunatly he couldn't blow his cover... yet. Returning his gaze to the mare he gave a light chuckle, forced on his part, but it did the job sound wise. "I suppose if you wanted to call me Zak, I shouldn't hold you back." And with that gave a small yawn, purposely setting the stage for a nice stretch of his wings, which of course went right close to the rit as he did so.

"Though the sunset is a bit saddening for me to see", he sighed, returning his wings and taking a slight step back from the Ichsa and her rit. "But I won't bother you with such details, despite how much I miss watching it with my foalhood friend." If there was any nequus that was a better actor, Zak would certainly like to meet them, just to see it for his own two eyes.

The poor little rit nearly fainted as the Aeri's great wings stretched toward him. Luckily, Zak folded them again before that happened. Skittles was sent into one mental statement that could last indefinitely. Don't hurt me don't hurt me don't hurt me please don't hurt me...

"Okay, Zak it is," she said with a grin, ears perked. He certainly seemed very nice now. Perhaps she just startled him when he was grazing? Yes, that was it. Not many Nequus enjoy being disturbed by a sudden appearance of a stranger. That was it. "Sad? How could sunsets be sad?" Maybe because the sun was going away and they wouldn't see it until morning? It didn't seem that sad...

"Oh, you poor thing! What happened to your friend? Did you lose him?" He'd lost his friend? No wonder sunsets were sad for him! She turned her body so she could face him better, to study him. "Tell me about your friend, maybe I can help you find him!"

Skittles gave an inward, giant sigh of relief. He couldn't see the Aeri now. Out of sight, not as scary. Hopefully Zak wouldn't move again, or hopefully Niz wouldn't move or put him down...

Hook, line, and sinker. At least that's what it seemed like for now. The Aeri gave a low bob of his head as she remarked about it for the first time; though his solemn gaze sooned turned completely hopeful as she spoke of helping him. "Oh! You'd do that? That would be great, I've been looking for him for quite some time, though I seem to have very little luck in finding him on my own", and with that he gave a small flick of his tail.

"Maybe you've even seen him before? Its a small world you know", more hope, before he got down to the details. "Well he's of Jala breed, a little taller then yourself. His coat is of black and brown, I think he referred to it as blood bay. Personalty wise I can't really say, for I haven't seen him in so long he might have changed", though Zak didn't think so. "His name Aitumn", he finally told her, with an affirming bob of his head.
PostPosted: Wed Jul 18, 2007 9:33 am

"Oh, I know Aitumn! He's a friend of mine!" She said happily, and sprang into a prancing fit, dancing around Zak in a circle a few times. "I met him before I met Skittles, here, last winter. I think it was here in the valley. He seemed very restless, but he promised to tell me a story the next time he saw me. Then he left, but I don't know where he went off to." She stopped, watching him curiously. Maybe that had helped him? "Sorry I can't tell you where he is right now, but maybe that helped a bit?" She hoped it had; she couldn't imagine not being able to find Skittles, or Nyx, or Virgil... She shook out her coat, then lowered her head to n** at an itch on her foreleg, forgetting that Skittles was on her back.

"Eep!" He clung to her wings as she shook and as she dipped her head. His attention shifted from Niz to Zak, who looked even more menacing now that Niz's head wasn't in between them. His eyes grew wide once more, ears pinned back to his skull again. Why couldn't he relax? Why couldn't they run now? Better yet, why didn't they run when they first saw him? Or even better still, why did they have to see him here at all? Why couldn't they have just gone elsewhere to watch the sunset? Virgil was big, but he was nice. This one seemed nice, but... Something, to him, just seemed... Wrong.

It had been a slim shot in hoping that this mare had known the pompus sonofanag he remember as Aitumn, but it was not an understatment to say that when she mentioned she knew him... well, Zak nearly allowed himself to prance about like a foal. Which would have quite a sight to see, though unfortunatly it was only short lived. She didn't know where he was? Ugh! Back to the drawing board. "Oh, well I suppose. But if you see him around again, I do hope you tell me", he spoke off-handedly, a sick feeling churning inside of him.

Was it just him or did he hear her say that Jala was her friend? Absolutely sickening. With a flick from his stub of a tail his eyes once again landed on the Rit upon her back. With his mood souring, the Aeri twitched his ears back slightly, thinking that the Ichsa wouldn't be able to see him do so while she had her muzzle to the ground. Such a creature that could call his family's murder a friend... deserved no respect from him.
PostPosted: Sun Jul 22, 2007 11:50 am

The little rit couldn't help but notice the backwards flick of the Aeri's ears, considering the fact that he was frozen to the spot, staring at Zak. Okay, not that was wrong. This creature didn't seem nice to the rit at first, and even moreso now. Why would his ears go back if he wasn't upset at something? They wouldn't. Niz missed it, however, and she raised her head after getting rid of the itch. Her ears perked up, watching Zak, and Skittles relaxed a bit, no longer immediately in front of the giant brute of an Aeri.

"Oh, I'm so glad I could help a little," she said with a happy grin on her muzzle, and she immediately nodded. "When I see him again, I'll come find you and tell you right away." She tossed her curly mane and flicked her similarly curly tail, ears still perked and a smile on her maw. "In fact, I'll go look for him now! I've been craving to go exploring for a while now, anyway," and she grinned again. Oh, this would be so much fun! How happy the two friends would be once reunited! She could picture it in her mind's eye now... She didn't bother asking to see if she should tell Aitumn he was being sought after, as it seemed silly to have to ask such a thing. Why wouldn't he know? Surely he knew his friend would be looking for him. Though... wouldn't he be looking for his friend, too? He hadn't even mentioned him when she'd met him in winter... Odd.

Darn, he was sure he would have sent that little Rit off running with its tail between its legs. Perhaps he was losing his touch? Hmm, Zak figured it was time to upgrade his scare tactics nowadays, and as such, he would need someone to practice on. Preferably one of the giddy Baes in the area, he came to the conclusion, as his gaze traveled across the vast valley for awhile longer. Certainly there had to be someone around he could use as an experiment, that is, after he got these two out of his hair.

Oh! Oh goody, an out. With an enthusiastic bob of his massive head, the stallion returned his attention to the Ichsa mare, his crimson eyes wavering with the excitement of finding a victim soon after. Though certainly, it must have looked like his enthusiasum was for her help. Zak figured he was just that good. "That would be splendid! I still haven't checked the rest of the valley though, so I'll probably hang around here for a bit and check the rest of the places I haven't gotten to", he spoke, tiny ears flicking from side to side in antsipation. Lucky him, he didn't even have to scare this one into looking for him, she just as easily decided to do it herself. Not as much fun sure, but it definatly ended the encounter quickly; for his stomache was still doing sickening flipflops it felt like.
PostPosted: Tue Jul 24, 2007 5:10 pm

Well he certainly seemed happy about it, and she grinned, prancing a bit. "Wonderful! I'll go out of the valley to explore, and I'll try and bring him back to you if I find him. I'll see you later, Zak!" She grinned, then turned. Skittles hunkered down and clung to Niz's tendril wings as tight as he could, trying not to look at the green Aeri. The red-creme mare pawed the ground, then galloped off as fast as her slender legs could carry her. Maybe Aitumn was nearby? That would be wonderful. She could hardly wait to bring the two back together! Skittles had a different opinion, however, but he didn't want to voice it until they were well out of ear-shot of the scary green Aeri. Maybe later...

"Take care!" he called after her, despite the fact he really wanted to shout something else after the two as they went running off. Well, exactly how many nequus did he have looking for that sonofanag now? Eventually, they would find him, and eventually that pompus Jala would come to find him. Oh this was just so perfect, oh so very perfect. In celebration, the swirled stallion tossed his short mane to the wind and went jogging off in the direction of the nearby river. If he was lucky, he'd some poor bafoon to mess around with; all while watching what promised to be a wonderful sunset.
