Our Empty Streets
The moonlight holds no shine this night lost in the emaciated bellows of tenements
another sip… Slips past the window All is lost … As the vagrants lap up that slowly leaking dream
The fire escape to be used only for the tapestries... Tapestries of sins Draped from the clotheslines of neighbors Never taken down, Two take up new residence every day.
The streets are littered with the glass… Glass of broken saint’s regret, But then maybe tomorrow the ‘divine sweepers’ Will cleanse our minds of the heretics
Heralding… Hark, I hear the ambulance sirens singing for just one more regiment to attain mistaken salvation.
Just across the way, moaning with ecstasy A Virgin room occupant gripping wildly at the icy, lethargic windows.
Her cage, her own life sentence smeared across the Pane… Whispering yells of silent content in the hollow of the room her air turns to idyllic lust and seep through… Through to my dreams of... Of the pleasures, but I can only whisper back,
"We could be together on these empty streets."
For those of you who are exactly good at interpreting poetry i shall help. This poem is about two lovers separated by society and what seems like an ocean it's almost dreamlike. One of them appears in the earlier part of the poem seemingly spun into this depression and agony of separation. Then it moves to the window looking out you see the "tapestries of sin" hanging from clotheslines in this alleyway, looking down you see the street littered with glass symbolizing their shattered love. Looking up "across the way" you see into the window of the other lover and you can faintly hear moans of ecstasy. This is where the mood changes and you start to see the essence of their love. They come together in their dreams, thus they remain pure...virgin if you will. The rest of it is pretty self explanatory.

I really like it. It makes you look beyond the words to find the meaning.
