the House has voted to withdraw U.S. troops by spring. The measure passed 223-201 in the Democratic-controlled House despite a veto threat from President Bush, who has ruled out any change in war policy before September. Democratic leaders engineered passage of legislation requiring the withdrawal of U.S. combat troops to begin within 120 days, and to be completed by April 1, 2008.

I think taking the troops out now would only make the fighting between the shi"its and the sunni's worse.

True; the two groups will fight. However, many Americans don't understand why we've put ourselves into the middle of this war. They want out.

no question bush needs to take some action instead of his patented 'stay the course' but pulling out at this time is a mistake

But he hasn't explained to anybody what he is intending to do. I personally, want out. As an anti- war person, I can't justify this at all. The only way anybody will be able to convince the citizens' of America to let the military stay in Iraq, would be to explain everything on television; battle plans, peace talks, ideas for improvement, turnover to the Iraqis, everything.

They'll fight no matter what. I don't see why we should put ourselves in the crossfire.

These groups have been fighting longer than anyone can remember, and will continue to fight.

The fact of the matter is that we need to focus less on having a western-friendly form of self government there, and more on just getting ssome level of self government. American foreign policy would piss off fewer groups if they just kept out of these things to begin with.

Like when the soviets invaded afghanistan... guess what, the taliban, back in the cold war, had NOTHING. it was our very own CIA's money and training that put them into a position of power, and ultimately, our government's OWN FAULT for backing a fundamentalist Islamic group. sorry, but everybody seems to forget the fact that out meddling in the governments of other countries tends to have a piss-poor end result.

I really want this war to be over, but we can't quit now. Whether we like it or not, we have to finish this mess. All the other countries are against the US, and as soon as we come back, they'll all ambush. So, basically, we're screwed either way.

The whole invasion of the Iraq was simply dumb! First off, Bush was searching for a reason, for invading Iraq, with "evidences" having Hussein weapons of mass destruction, then him supporting El Qaida, but none of both were facts. El Qaida raised in Iraq after the Invasion.

Then the declaration of the war was a simple shame: At the first points the saving of the Oil-reserves was announced and at the last places the saving of the people!

Also, lots of the equipment for the Army was bad: a lot of dead soldiers could have been avoided, if the Hummers had steel doors, instead of plastic doors or only rags closing the car.

The shiites and sunites will always slaughter each other! My only opinion to it: keep your a** down!

umm...no It dosent, this is the Par tof the act that deals with the president

Presidential authority

Section 106 clarifies the President's authority to investigate, regulate, or prohibit any financial transactions that fall within the jurisdiction of the U.S. This section also authorized the President to confiscate assets belonging to any "foreign person, foreign organization, or foreign country" who the President found had participated in an attack on the United States. Finally, this section ordered that if action under this section is based on classified information, that information may be presented to the reviewing judicial authority ex parte and in camera — that is, outside the presence (and possibly without the knowledge) of the accused or his attorney
