i just want to know this because me my friend got into an argeument on the subject. do slivers abilities affect themselves, like if a sliver says, "slivers have haste" does that sliver also get haste?

yes....because it is also a sliver.....but your opponent could use that against you, which brings up another anti-sliver deck (you play against somebody with a sliver deck, drop dormant and plague sliver)

Yes, and like bobbyjar said, sliver decks can be turned against you by picking up the abilities. Especially mistform decks.

You can actually turn it against yourself if you're not careful, with Crystalline sliver. I see tons of decks using them, but their ability also goes for sliver affects. You can ruin your strategy by keeping your slivers from being the target of spells/abilities.

You serious? I thought global effects weren't targetting effects.
Since the sliver abilities don't say "Target sliver" then won't that mean Crystaline wouldn't effect the sliver abilities?

The card effect reads "Slivers can't be the target of spells or abilities."

So if you take something like a Magma sliver (All slivers have "T: Target sliver gets +X/+0 where X is the number of slivers in play."), It's ability targets slivers specifically, so if Crystalline sliver is out, it can't be used. There are several sliver cards that read that way, but if you have a global effect, then yes, it can be used with Cryst. Sliver.

they do affect themselves. however, the recent introduction of plague sliver shakes the sliver scene up a bit

Another anti-sliver idea might be to put this card into your deck:

Simply grab your opponent's creatures one by one...

Some slivers are good standalone cards. Take Necrotic Sliver, for example.

Harmonic Sliver is making a pretty big impression in Extended right now. It's a very nice wish target for Gifts Rock against Enduring Ideal decks, not to mention any little nit pick enchantments (Leyline, Zombie Infestation, ect.)

Harmonic Sliver was another of the more potent cards. And the fact that there's a Sliver that grants Sliver-cycling, I could make a competetive Sliver deck. The newer slivers add alot of interesting elements to the game.
