Demon Within

In this dark room
there resides a beast
I've locked him here
because I'm afraid
of what he might do
He wears a ghoulish mask
so he cannot see.
He is bound by chains
so he cannot move.
As my anger rises he stirs
The situation grows worse
by the second
the chains clank
as he struggles to free himself
Voices are raised
The mask starts to crack
How much more can I take?
The left side of the mask
cracks and falls off
and the eyes of a demon
are revealed
A crimson droplet runs down his face
The chains grow weak
the mask starts to crumble
as he lets out an unearthly howl.
Chains begin to snap
he is almost free.
I walk away
the problem solved
He slumps to the ground
I tremble as I realize
He almost took control...
He almost broke free...
How much longer
can I keep him down?
