I posted this on the "New ED" but I thought it would be revelant here too: First, let me say I am a Christian. However, some Christians get on my nerves. Why? They pick and chose what rules from the Bible they're going to follow. For example, in Leviticus, it encourages bringing a ram as a sacrifice for lying (Don't know many Christians that do this...), says touching "unclean" dead animals makes you unclean and guilty (Christians do go hunting), don't eat pigs (Gee, I've never seen a Christian eat ham...(yea right!) ), don't eat things with fins, women who have had birth need to make animal sacrifices, and more! Yet people 'pick' to condemn homosexuality with this same book of the Bible. Or how about Exodus 21. It says 'slaves are property', but people use it to condemn abortion.

Well, some Christians use Leviticus to support their arguments, others say that Paul condemned it. I can't find the verses at the moment, but it still is possible Christians could show that God possibly does condemned Homosexuality without following the Old Testament.

If you can find the verses, I'd appreciate it. My er...rant wasn't necessarily about homosexuality or abortion even, it was just how some Christians can sit there and pick and choose which parts/rules of the Bible to follow...

The New Testament has possible anti-gay sentiments? It's been a while since I read through it, but I don't remember reading anything that made me think "Hmm, God still hates them gays!" but then again I was much younger and I wasn't (and still am not) a Christian. I read it because I wanted to be a well-rounded person and it's honestly an interesting read; complete memorization isn't required when you're reading for pleasure. As a side note, it's always bothered me when Christians quote the Old Testament as moral justification. After the Jesus came, the OT was supposed to be obsolete...I thought God even decreed it! It was part of his transformation from wrathful to loving!

The bible is such a huge document, and one that says one thing and says another, that any verse and justify or excuse any argument that any christian could make.
Since it does happen to have literary techniques like allegories and symbols, it blows a hole in the literalist interpretations that fundies like to adhere by.
Spirituality is supposed to help people be better people, not trap them into oppressed roles.

It's the exact thing that bothers me about any religion.

As for using Leviticus for the anti-homosexuality argument, it always bothers me. Especially since half of Leviticus is dealing with ceremonial purity, not common law.
I think the quotes from the New Testament condemning it are the following:
Romans 1:26-27 "For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence [sic] of their error which was meet."
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God."
1 Timothy 1:9-10 "Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine."
I'm not saying at all that I think this is a good standpoint or even agree 100% that it's what they're saying, however when I check the religious tolerance website I usually check for references, these are what they cited as the most 'anti-gay' in the new testament.
Organized religion is NOT for me, and these sentiments show exactly why. xD
