So on Wednesday, I went on my Vacation to San Diego, California for my families annual July 4th vacation and what-not. On Thursday, we head over to Balboa Park (a really awesome place built for the Panama-California Exposition of 1909 and is full of museums and stuff. If you are ever in the neighborhood, check it out.) Anyway...we head to the Natural History Museum and what do we see on a banner hanging from it: "The Dead Sea Scrolls"

My parents and I immediately ran to the front and saw a sign which said "Tickets Available Inside" so we ran in, got some tickets, and went to see them.

It was so awesome! The entire exhibit first had a gallery of photo's from Israel and the area around where the scrolls were found. Then they showed the history of how the scrolls were found and how they surfaced and all that wonderful stuff. Then, down stairs, we saw them. In a dimly lit room with barely the glow of soft orange lights on each, were the scrolls. Not only were there scrolls which Israel owned, but also scrolls such as the Copper Scroll which Jordan owns (I wanna find me that lost treasure, btw x3)

In the exhibit we passed all different Jews from all around the world. There was a small family of Mexican Jews (they were speaking Ladino and the mom was wearing a Chai necklace), some Jewish Marines from the local base (no comment), an entire group of Ethiopian Jews, one Asian Jew (he was telling the docent that he converted because of a Jewish soldier in Korea saved his life or something) and of course...hundreds of little old Jewish couples talking in oh so stereotypical Brooklyn Jew accents.

Needless to say, it was an experience.

So...
Have you seen the scrolls?
Where did you see 'em?
Do you want to see the scrolls?
Would you help me find that treasure? ninja

And sorry, no pictures, all cameras and cell phones were stolen by a mean Irish security guard outside the museum. Dx

That sounds like so much fun! I positively ached to go see the scrolls when they were in my town, but we couldn't get tickets except for one week, and that week a friend of mine was in from out of town. We got the tickets for Thursday. Wednesday night, she fell down, hit her face on the sidewalk, and wouldn't leave the house for the remaining six days of her visit because she said people were looking at her bruises and thinking she was an abuse victim or something. She was terrified of having people look at her at all, so we *sigh* sat at home with her for the rest of her visit.
