I've had many people tell me thier preference in scales such as the pentatonic, blues, and etc.
What are your preferences? I like the fast alternate picking stuff.

G minor pentatonic scale is usually the most used in rock songs

Lydian and Pentatonic are my favorites...Phrygian is also fun.

confuse me...
 phrygiam hands down.
closely followed by the harmonic minor (lol, index-pinky-index-pinky!!!)
and the major scale for sweeps.
It's okay.

Learn all the modes of the major scale:
Ionian Mode
Dorian Mode
Phrygian Mode
Lydian Mode
Mixolydian Mode
Aeolian Mode
Locrian Mode
If you know all of these and how to use them you'll basically know all the Western scales and will be able to play in any key at any position on the neck. The Aeolian is probably the most used because it is what the Pentatonic is based off of.

I like the Harmonic Minor... Randy Rhoads used it a lot. And I think it sounds sexy smile

I prefer the lydian mode and I also use the Phrygian mode for some darker stuff xd
