I have no game system of any kind (and am rather glad of this), and have never played any Final Fantasy. The Magic imbued into the world's minerals alone, you say. Does this mean only select individuals can harness the powers in the crystals, or are they available to all with a desire to gain access?
I had a similar thought as yours on the topic of Magic being only available to a certain percentage of the world's population, and also the possibility of civilians disbelieving in it, even fearing/hating those who used it for their own gains (thus giving birth to prejudice, rebellions, revolutions, civil wars, etc.). I actually rather liked the idea at first. The only thing that persuaded me against using it was its often usage, but then again, the idea of Magic belonging to everyone is also fairly used.

That's pretty strange cuz, if you enjoy fantasy then I would think you'd like to at least take a quick look at any fantasy related games. It doesn't matter if they're board games or whatever, just as long as you explore other possibilities. Seriously, a video game is no different from reading a good book. Both have stories and they can both be very entertaining. Granted some people enjoy books more than games and vice versa but that's a topic for another time/thread.
Actually, the magic comes from every living thing if I recall correctly.
You see, when every living being dies, its soul goes back to the planet and joins a network of spiritual rivers that flow through the planet. This energy is sometimes channeled through certain caves and crystals form from it (are crystals really minerals?). I think pretty much anyone in that world can use the magic inside of those crystals because you can find stores selling materia crystals all over that world.
That's great! I suppose that conflict usually makes a story more interesting, huh?
Hey cool! I'm glad to see Mel posted about BC Yanto's post. It's cool to see you both agree and disagree on certain things and I can't wait to see what Mel has to say about Yanto's last reply. 3nodding
