I'm a flute girl. I've played it for 5 years. But when our band got too many flutes, my BD asked me to switch to Baritone, mostly because we have NO low brass and about half the band are flutes. So far, all I've been able to play is Mary Had A Little Lamb. I can't exactly practice over the summer because I'll be using a school instrument and they don't do summer loans. I've been kinda scared that it will be hard to learn the harder songs we play though. So is Baritone hard to learn?

I thought it was quite easy. Although I play a multitude of instruments, until I played baritone, they were all woodwinds. Saxes and clarinets and flutes. I picked up a baritone, and five months later, I'm marching in a 5th place corps, with no marching experiance, and no brass experiance what so ever. You'll catch on easily.

it'll be very hard since you're a woodwind player, but much easier then tuba or french horn.

It's pretty easy, but play Bass Cleft. It'll be better than Trebble Cleft.

So I swithed to Baritone also, our low is very little we do have some but not many. It's a little hard at first but you really should consider renting one for the summer, practice is highly needed for it. Also going from a small to large insturment will effect your back so do alot of excersises!

when I started playing baritone 2 years ago, I was automatically put into the advanced band in my middle school since I was in jazz band. I quickly learned how to get stuff right or totally mess up..which ever came first
now that I am in the marching band playing the marching baritone, it gets tricky trying to play and march and to hold it UP at the same. But I plan on going all 4 years on it and in college.
So it depends on the person if it is hard or not, its how much dedication they put in it to see how well they get at it

I play Baritone, and it's very easy. I have pick a flute course and after 4 years, I'm DO because I can't play anything. But I only need to learn Baritone for 2 months in MB and I can play it very well.

This might just be because I play trombone, but I picked up a baritone, and I was playing Grade 4 Music on it in about 25 minutes...
It's not hard...
