They'll do that for about another month and a half. Then when they realize that you guys aren't getting rid of either one, they'll be grumpy and ignore one another. My cats have spent 9-10 months together (Fuzzball was first, we got her about three years ago; Donny was second and we got him 9-10 months ago as a three week old kitten [his mommy got ran over cry ]) and they're still not very good friends. They grow out of it. Fuzz still loves me and Donny attacks my ankles everytime he can do so (my mom says he sees me as an older sister that he must annoy stare , my brother is a cat).

I've had Sam for about three months. He's like one of my kids. I'm still trying to teach him to say Mama.

First of all, make sure that the new kitty's food isn't close to the old one's. It's best to feed them in different rooms for a while, and try to get them to use their own litterboxes instead of sharing. Also, try to make sure you pay extra attention to Luke, so he doesn't feel like the new kitty's going to take any love or attention away from him.
I suggest getting a clean spray bottle and fill it with water. If Luke attacks Patches, spray him once or twice. It'll surprise him enough to get him to stop, and he'll avoid fighting after a while once he learns that it'll get him wet. Try to avoid yelling at him and making him feel like you're mad. Just spray him once or twice while his back is turned.
This is what I did when I got a new kitten. The older one attacked him a lot at first...but now they're good friends. heart
