I liked Sunday in the Park With George a lot. It's very theatrical; which is to say it would be tough though not impossible to make a movie of it. The best songs in it are probably "Putting It Together" and "Sunday."

I've heard of it, but never heard anything from it. Nor do I know what it's about. But I'm interested. And since you seem to like it, I'm sure it's good.

the musical is based on a painting by Georges Seurat entitled A Sunday at the island of La Jatte. That's the English idea of the French title. The painting is special because it's one of Seurat's examples or Pointilism. He doesn't create the colors for you but paints in dots and has the colors join together in your mind. anyway, based on the painting, James Lapine wrote a book about some aspects of the life of Georges Seurat with the idea of ending the first act with the characters forming a life size copy of the painting. The Second Act deals with the fictitious grandson of Georges Seurat at an art exhibit of his new work based on the painting. Chromolume #7. Yes, it's the seventh one. "Putting It Together" in case you've never heard it has to do with the State of the Art. Basically, the song has to do with how hard it is to do any art, visual or performing, and keep from getting corrupted by the people with money.
As I said, I think it's a great show, though my synopsis is lacking in interest. You can rent it if you like, I believe it's on DVD and video.

Your synopsis is fine. The only thing you forgot about was the music. Most of the music is like a musical form of pointillism, with little dots of music here and there. The music is sometimes even more dissonant than Sweeney Todd, but the music in the first act slowly becomes less and less dissonant until the painting comes together in Sunday, which has some incredible choral harmony.

I recently watched Sunday in the Park With George... most of it. I must say, I adored the first act, but the second act put me off a little and confused me... I'm going to watch the second act all the way through and see if it grows on me. sweatdrop Sunday is a great number, but it freaked me out when I saw it because there's a song in Tick, Tick... BOOM! that's called Sunday and is... well, that song, but with different words and about working as a waiter in New York. ^ ^;;; The song in TTB is obviously based on the one in Sunday in the Park With George, and I think I knew that, somewhere in the recesses of my mind, but had forgotten.

There's a revival of Sunday in the Park With George coming to Broadway. I don't know anything about it, but it might worth seeing if you're interested in a show to see. Of course, it's cheaper renting the DVD of the original.

The revival is supposed to be very good. I might see it just to see how they did it. I also love the music in it. Maybe not all the songs, but most of them.
