where do we go? the distance of our travels confuse me...
 start at a low gain, no matter what genre you plan on playing, it will help you focus on the actual method, rather than relying on the gain to cover up your shortcomings in playing.  It's okay. Just hold my hand... and i swear everything will be all right...

it looks cool when you set it on fire
watch out for feedback-- that squeel when you get the guitar too close to the amp. don't unplug any cables with the amp on.

Don't accidentally strum on the pick-ups xD Umm... try not to use the whammy extensively...! It starts to sound bad :3

Hold your guitar pick correctly (not doing so will cause problems later) and when play have your thumb be on the back of the neck, not like hanging over near the frets. Try when you are picking to go up and down (alternate picking) and use all your fingers, not just your pointer.

Alternate pick. Get a metronome. Learn to tune by ear.

Don't unplug anything while your amp is on, watch out for feedback, if you're new to playing guitar at all, I suggest you start with some simple Sonic Youth songs, like Quest For The Cup and 100%.

get the proper techneique down first like how to hold the guitar and pick it wont screw you over in the long run
