Mel is right. It seems nowadays that divorces are pretty common. That's why people should get to know each other more before getting married. It seems some get married in a hurry or just cuz they feel they have to.

I have no idea how to apply such things to fantasy as of now.

Well, I've seen on the News that the government wants to stop young girls from getting themselves into trouble, such as expecting children before they've even left school or college and selling themselves. Yet, late at night there are adverts for "texting girls in your area" and some of the girls look about 15, none of their smiles are genuine, and who knows it's a dangerous game to text people you don't know?

I suppose back in the past although infidelity was scowled at, it still happened a lot. A man thought that regardless of having a loving wife, he still had the rights to go and lay with a mistress. Lord Nelson did this, and despite him having reasons for drifting away from his wife, Frances, he spent time with Lady Emma Hamilton, who had a husband. However, somehow the husband didn't mind her fooling around with Nelson.

As something that has been going on for such a long time, how do we add such things into fantasy? In most books I've read, one can only assume that these things go on, yet many just don't think about it. For example, my pirate is a dashing, very handsome and charismatic young man. He sails from place to place, and like most sailors, needs a bit of fun every once in a while because one woman can only be in one place and can't be there all of the time, just as they can't be there all of the time. So on that level, you'd find that it happened a lot. It's going to be evident in my own work. I'm not going to go into explicit details, but it'll become obvious enough that he'll get it where he can. He's a charmer, and I love him for it, but he'll likely end up in love at some point (and whoever that is will likely just end up sailing with him).

Good discussion point!

Folks will be folks, and it's not always the lads who are on the prowl. People stray from solid relationships for many reasons--and if they don't have one, well, there's just logically a point where self-care doesn't fill the void (trying not to be crass here...) I think if you don't want to have sex scenes (or if they don't fit the flow of the story) it's perfectly OK to allude to them in dialogue or in actions.

And I rather like the thought of your lad sailing off into the sunset, eventually, with his lady love... smile

Well, let's put it this way.....he's been around. He's a charmer, he's charismatic, he's very dashing and handsome, he can dance and he's got a damn fine figure. In the book alone he'll end up kissing a few different girls, and that's just what I'll be "writing in".

I'm thinking his childhood friend may be the girl he ends up with, and put the thought with the song I am currently obsessed with; Fleetwood Mac - Everywhere.

*Posts description of him into PM.*

Yeah, me too! I hope it won't be long for Mel to publish it. I wonder how many publishing houses one can find in Norfolk...

As for the topic, I've been trying to mix history & fantasy and I think I haven't screwed up yet, he-he. mrgreen
I wonder if anyone has seen the journal of Kenshin Belmont yet... neutral

So, is anyone gonna visit my profile and journal? I've gotten a few comments on both but I always appreciate getting more. 3nodding

In this story, vampires are pretty much like they are in the CV storyline. I'm not sure if I should modify them somehow, he-he. sweatdrop

Sorry, I pay very little attention to user's profiles. sweatdrop
I only ever look at profiles if I am looking for people to invited to the guild. I search for the interest "fantasy" and check their profiles to make sure the word is listed in their hobbies and interests.

I've never bothered with the journals either. Besides, I have a lot of other things to think about and can't dedicate my time to such things. Sorry dude. sad
