Whether it be a hand-me-down, a auction bargain, or some harmonica you found in the gutter second hand instruments are awesome. Now I know they aren't always the best sounding or the best looking but there is a certain charm to them that I just can't resist!
Does anyone else share my love of old instruments or have any stories youd like to share? I would love to hear them! 3nodding

I play a Buffet clarinet that I bought off my teacher for $1500; it's like 20 years old but I love it, and it's gotten shinier since I started playing it. mrgreen
Let's see... well, I've played a lot of second-hand instruments. The tenor sax I played on before those crooks stole it was an old, beautiful Martin that I borrowed off my teacher. It sometimes had issues with the keys but when it worked, it played magnificently. The first alto I played was the crappiest school one, but with some investment in swabs and a polishing kit and with a lot of care, I turned it into a popular school sax by the time I bought a brand new horn. I have played a lot of used/old/borrowed/school instruments in my music career.
Our piano is also quite old; it's a ragtime piano, I believe. Several keys are busted and I've been begging my parents to fix the keys. I want to buy a new piano, but I also have so many memories with the one right now.
Yeah, you definitely can't beat the old-school hand-me-downs and used instruments, and you're proven to be a better musician if you can make a great sound out of the bad ones. cool

Yes...old pianos rock. 4laugh I once went to an exhibit at an art gallery in which several old pianos were featured. It was awesome. Just awesome.

Yeah, I love old, crappy equipment. I'm still using the same $500 Pearl kit I got when I first started playing drumset. You can take a piece of crap, replace some of the heads, tune it nicely, and make it sound like it costs $2,000.

you know i dont have any cool vintage horns at the moment. i have a semi-old Vito alto sax that o bought for like i think $100... or was it $70. I remember an old clunker sax that was in teh bandroom in highschool. It was the most horrible thing but i made it sing! Unfortunately it couldnt take marchingband and jazzband and fell apart during a jazz concert crying I dont even remember what brand the horn was.

Well, I have a second-hand sax (Yamaha), and it is good, I like it. My piano is also old--older than me, in fact. It's had to be looked at lots of times. Sometimes I get really mad at it and want a new one, other times, I like it. domokun What can I say? I'm a moody guy. whee

Eventually I'll be borrowing our family friend's violin, I think it's kinda old... So it's played in, it'll sound better.

Haha, My clarinet is over 60 years old. It's a french Buffet, but I like it since it is wood. It doesn't look as old as it is. It looks like, 30, maybe.
