That's been happening to mine lately, but we fixed it by using a can of air. Sooner or later we're going to get our laser check... I dunno when. sweatdrop

No, Sakyh. I haven't tried repairing it yet. This past little while has been entire insanity. Life simply hasn't allowed much time (or space) to attempt cleaning the laser (or get online, for that matter). I'm leaving home today for a few days, but once I get back I'll try opening the PS2 and will likely update on whether or not that works and my plan of action from there.
red_moon_wolfess: As for those people not liking slims: It all seems to be very personal, and as I said before, not grounded in the actual system performance. I will likely buy a slim if my attempts at self-repair don't work. Why? Because personally, I've found nothing to indicate they don't work just as well as an original PS2, and the smaller size would make my life a little easier. The slightly higher cost seems to be worth the convenience gained, and knowing I have a new system that will (probably) not require further repairs to keep running for years to come.
Kiarra-Chan13: Thanks for posting. mrgreen I figure that dust is likely a common problem. If it doesn't continue having problems for a long while after the can of air, I personally wouldn't put down the money to have the laser checked until it couldn't be easily fixed at home.
