I know this'll probably get lost in the midst of all the other pregnancy threads, but I just wanted to tell someone about this.

I started listening to my JRock (yes, I'm an addict to JRock!) and singing along, and my little baby decided to dance around. I can feel the movements along with the beats. I think it's cute!

So, what's the deal I've heard about if you listen to music while pregnant, that'll influence your child? Does anyone know any more about this?

My hubby listens to Jazz and South American music, and I listen to JRock and video game OSTs. XD It's a strange mix, but hey! We believe in a multi cultural, multi lingual household.

My husband and I listen to a pretty wide variety: rock, blues, swing, classical, etc. But I'm only 11 weeks along. I do plan on playing more classical music for the baby as the pregnancy moves along.

Also, this post reminded me of my old voice teacher, so I just have to tell his story real quick. When his wife was pregnant with their first child, she'd go to his performances and the baby would move a lot when daddy sang. So daddy figured that the baby really loved his singing. Then, when the baby was born, mommy took baby to daddy's concert. When daddy started to sing, baby started crying and crying and wouldn't stop. lol His son doesn't like his singing at all. My poor voice teacher.

Personally? I don't really buy into the whole craze. I think it's mostly the beats that the baby responds to (of course the ultimate music to me is a mother's voice and heartbeat). Both my boys liked things with high BPMs, but I never did the headphones thing, just listened to music like I normally did.

I don't think it'll influence your child, I don't think the studies really are valid, myself. I think even if we don't try to, our children get exposed to what we like, thus they like it. Hard to gauge what the baby in utero is really doing and what they are responding to. xd

I know there's plenty of sites out there for people into that sort of thing.

Luna, you do make a valid point. We don't know what's going on on the inside of the utero, and the responding to the beats does make sense. I thought maybe it was just a way of bonding, but *shrugs* there'll be plenty of that to come in the next 20+ years.
