Jellyfish are marine invertebrates belonging to the Scyphozoan class. The body of an adult jellyfish is composed of a bell-shaped, jelly producing substance enclosing its internal structure, from which the creature's tentacles are suspended. Each tentacle is covered with stinging cells (cnidocytes) that can sting or kill other animals: most jellyfish use them to secure prey or as a defense mechanism. Others, such as Rhizostomae, do not have tentacles at all.

To compensate for a lack of basic sensory organs and a brain, the jellyfish exploits its nervous system and rhopalia to perceive stimuli, such as light or odor, and orchestrate expedient responses. In its adult form, it is composed of 94–98% water and can be found in every ocean in the world. Some jelly fish do have these body parts such as the box jelly fish.

Most jellyfish are passive drifters that feed on small fish and zooplankton that become caught in their tentacles. Jellyfish have an incomplete digestive system, meaning that the same orifice is used for both food intake and waste expulsion. They are made up of a layer of epidermis, gastrodermis, and a thick layer called mesoglea that produces most of the jelly and separates the epidermis from the gastrodermis.

User ImagePage 4, Pwittygurl's Journal news

Dear readers,
So what happened this month? It's getting harder and harder to recall each time. Maybe it's because the months are getting busier, or my memory is getting worse. 0.o Either way, this month has had many things happen also.

Most importantly, SCHOOL HOLIDAYS!!!!! they began and went off with a bang. haha!!! no homework for two weeks, at least i thought. Still with a fair amount of homework, but not as much as normally, i set off on enjoying my holiday by doing...nothing!!! Walking the dog, chatting to friends, and watching DVDs....this is the life. There is also seeing friends, and visiting relatives and just plain having fun!

Harry Potter comes out in exactly 1 week from today (the 4th) and unfortunately, that means school holidays will be over soon....

But never fear!! Jellyfish Man and the mysterious Pancakes, as well as Jellyfish Girl will find a way to enlighten all your lives. So step back, take a deep breath, and explore the guild. you will never know what you might find.....

Dont forget the RP's, Story Posting Forum, and Contests that are taking place.

Till next time~~

hello fellow jellyfish, im Lisa garnet carnation bringing you the hot news from gaia this month!

News
Hey, have you checked out the Salon lately? Looks like ol' Vanessa has learned some fancy new tricks...
The long-awaited Salon update is finally upon us, and it's even cooler than you expected. Not only are there a bunch of hot new hairstyles, but they come in twice as many colors!

From now on, each new hairstyle will have two color variations: light and dark. These can be sorted just as they could before: for example, clicking the "blue" tab in the Salon would show you both the light blue and the dark blue hair variations.

As for the new styles, we've got seven great new looks to choose from, and in my honest and studied opinion it is the best Salon update of all time. My personal favorite is the "Salaryman" look, combining furious eyebrows with dignified male pattern baldness. It's not for everybody, but it definitely has its uses.

To see them all, go visit the lovely Vanessa and her busy scissors at Salon Durem.
And now, a SPECIAL BONUS ANNOUNCEMENT tacked on to the Salon update FOR SOME REASON:

We've also released a new system which will let members bring much-deserved attention to their favorite profiles, journals, homes, and guilds. If you see a great profile, journal, home or guild, and you'd like to recommend it to be spotlighted, here's how to do it:

For profiles: click the "recommend" button in the black bar at the top of the profile.

For homes: currently, you can only recommend homes from the "Home Preview" in a person's profile.

For journals: click the "recommend" link in the journal navigation.

For guilds: click the "Recommend this Guild" link in the top-right of any guild page.

We'll definitely be looking at your picks when we choose spotlight items for the home page, so please feel free to show us your favorite stuff!

June 2007 monthly collectables. halo, cloud and zodiac!

Hey, guys! We wanted to give you some advance notice about a couple of important changes that you'll be seeing on Gaia very soon.

For a while now, we've wanted to simplify how username colors of Gaia staff and Moderators appear around the site. We're about to make things way easier to understand:

In brief, there are going to be 2 main colors for people that are here to help; Green for Moderators and Orange for Administrators.

Green - For all Gaia's Moderators. In addition, there will be a text title under their usernames that better explains what their role is and how they can help you. If you need help, people in green are the ones who can help you.

Orange - For Administrators. These are the ones who manage the forums and lead the moderation and member services teams.

You may also see these other colors on usernames:

Dark Brown - For names will be given to those who do art, coding, and other fun stuff for you. These are the people that talk about features and development.

Black - For all other members on Gaia. So if a black username tells you they are a moderator or admin, they aren't

Members on your friends list will still be in Dark blue, and NPCs will continue to remain Red.

As you may know, there are currently several different username colors given to our staff based on what they do to support you, and that can be really confusing. We believe this new way of identifying Moderators and Adminsitrators will make it even easier for you to find who you need to assist you with anything on Gaia.

Green Moderators will still be your first line of support for all of your community needs. And Orange Administrators will continue being the official voice of Gaia as well as leaders of the community team.

Gaia's support team is growing really fast! That's why we want to make things more clear and simple.
We're already improving on our response time, and this color change is another effort in making things better. You should expect to see both the green moderators and orange admins engaging the community more than ever before.

We'll let you know when this takes effect, so stay tuned!

Dust off your driving gloves, Gaians: Scion is sponsoring a new feature that puts you behind the wheel of your own customizable car!

Now you can do all kinds of cool stuff, like:

Buy your own Gaia car

Customize it with colors and accessories

Show it off at the Auto Show

Race against other Gaians
To get started, click the "My Car" section under the "My Gaia" link at the top of the page. Once you're there, you can buy some wheels from Edy's Autos. Edy's got three cars to choose from: the gas-guzzling Musculero, the sporty Possum, and the super-customizable Scion xB.

When you've picked your car, click the "But Parts" button to head over to Sam's Body & Parts, where you can pick up colors and accessories for your ride. When you've got the stuff you want, click the "Customize" button to deck out your car. The main window lets you can equip all the cool stuff you bought, or you can use the checkbox on the left to add your custom car to your signature.

Please note: After you buy items from Sam's, they will take about one minute to show up in your Customize screen.

Ready to show your wheels to the world? Click the "Meet Up & Rally" button on the My Car page (or select "Rally" under the Games link) to head to the Rally. Select your server, join a room, and pick your parking spot at the Auto Show or the 24/7 lot. While you're there, you can click on another Gaian's car to challenge them to a race! After you've challenged a friend, other Gaians can come along to watch the race and cheer you on.

Racing is pretty simple: click the red button to speed up, but watch out for obstacles! Cows, UFOs, and jump ramps can mess you up if you're not careful.

For quite a while, Gaians have been asking for merchandise that features their own Gaia avatars. We're happy to say that we've finally found a way to make it possible: we've teamed up with QOOP to create Gaia's new custom merchandise shop!

Now you can put your Gaia avatar on shirts, hoodies, mugs, business cards and a bunch of other neat stuff. You can customize it all with your own colors, text and dozens of pieces of Gaia artwork-- the possibilities are practically endless.

To celebrate the launch of our custom merchandise, we're offering a special limited-time promotion: for every dollar you spend with QOOP in the next 30 days, you'll be given 100 Gaia Gold! This number is rounded up, so if you spend $21.35, you'll get 2,200 Gold. (Please note that this gold will not be granted immediately; it may take around 45 days.)

To learn a little more about QOOP, check out our QOOP info page. From there, you can jump straight into the QOOP site and get started on your own customized stuff!
