_______ There are not many guides to protecting yourself from fiendish scammers and hackers who are out to get your items and gold here on Gaia. I created this guide to teach you how to protect yourself from such hackers and scammers.

I CANNOT guarantee that you will not be hacked, and any question's about my guide that you have should be posted in this thread.

PASSWORDS

Nowadays we have passwords and pin codes for everything. Myspace, Youtube, Facebook, Xanga. You need a password for all of them. My advise is USE A DIFFERENT PASSWORD FOR EVERY SITE! Never use the same password and username for different websites. If you have the same username and password on Gaia and Myspace, CHANGE THEM. All websites can be hacked and no one is safe from it.

Never let a website remember you. It is easier to hack you when you are logged in. Yes, you have to log in every time you want to get on.

If your password is something obvious, it needs to be changed. Never use the name of your favorite anime character, or your birthday. Use capital and lower case letters. Use numbers and spaces.

Example of an obvious password - i like cheese
Example of a non obvious password - HmtDi5Hts3iByefK djSt3

Yes it is long, but that's what cut and paste is for. Just type your password into notepad or wordpad, copy it and then paste it into the password field.

One way to help you remember your password is take it from something you love or believe in.

Example:

My Favorite Show On Cartoon Network Is Inuyasha.

Then take the first letter out of every word and in the words with 4 or more letters take out another random letter.

Result:

MFoSwOCoNkIIy

(My Favorite Show On Cartoon Network Is Inuyasha)

The Longer your password is the better

These are scammers attempting to get you to give them your password. If you see them, report them for impersonation of a Gaian administrator.

Remember Gaian Administrators will NEVER ask you for your password. They don't need it.

Keylogging

If they don't use the cookies they are probably using Keylogging.
What is Keylogging?
Silent software used by Law Enforcement and other government bodies to detect data you enter over the internet--such as your passwords. They are also used in businesses to keep an eye on employees. It is very strong and variations of them are sadly available over the internet (many for free) to be used by the wrong hands. Any one with a programming background (ex C++) can manipulate the information.

How do the simple ones get to me?
These software come wrapped up as a Trojan, virus or other invaders. When the infection enters your system it gathers the data secretly in a location specified by the hacker. The hacker then can collect the gathered data and use it in the hopes of either finding passwords, or possibly other useful information that could be used to compromise the system or be used in an attack.
What can you do?
There isn't a whole lot besides preventing and treating all infections ASAP.
1)Make sure you have all the internet security you can muster. Have a anti-spyware, netwerk monitor and a firewall installed (see Internet Programs in next post). Use them to scan your system fully each week and/or as needed. Keep them updated!!!
2)Avoid downloading questionable material and opening unknown e-mails. When in doubt don't let it access your computer gonk !
3)Clear your cookies and files often.
4)If you are unable to safety remove the infection yourself using the Internet Programs go for professional help. Incorrect removal efforts can result in damage to the operating system, instability, inability to use the mouse or keyboard, or worse.
Info from Wikipediaand Actual Spy

(From Deh_Executioner's Anti-Hack / Scam Guide)
I don't know much about keylogging, and I didn't want to post anything incorrect because a hacker got my password in this way and it really hurts whenever someone says "Well yah shouldn't have given away your password". All I can say is be careful of what you click and where you go.
