[Gaze Rock Is Not Dead] I must say that I am slightly annoyed by it at times, but it isn't just a negative thing. Of course it's sad that the japanese culture are being put in background of the american-ish in their own land! But I also think that all cultures need to take up some "fresh stuff". ...this doesn't sound like what I meant to say at all. >_< [Gaze Rock Is Not Dead]

probably makes it easier for foreigners. if there's a mix then they might get something right. i think japan could slow down with the westernization thing though. if it could just stay the way it is now, then it wouldn't be a problem,i think. do you think otherwise?

One of the important parts of culture is mixing, expanding, and evolving. Take the old for what it was, see the new for what it can be.

At the same time I think this is both good and bad. I am new to the Japanese culture scene in America so I don't know if it has increased/decreased steadily, skyrocketingly, or been stable. But I do know that it is popular to engage in culture activities of the Japanese here in America *cough* anime and manga *cough*. So while Japan is slowly mixing the Western world into their culture, it's vice versa over here.
I think it's bad because Japan was and still is such a unique culture because they had been isolated from the rest of the world for so long (history class pays off sometimes lol). I mean , it's not like they can go into isolation again, but maybe just not mix as quickly and as much. But it is a place of lots of business and fashion and electronics/technology, so it is important for the cultures to mix so they can collaborate and share their information.
So I guess overall I just voiced my ideas, right now my opinions are mixed 3nodding

We're on entirely opposite sides of the planet! Our society's really aughta' make up thier minds, we can't just fly all the americans over to Japan and bring back all the Japanese people to America. That's stupid beyond explanation. I say we should leave being Asian to the Asians and keep our Western ways in the west. Not saying I'm against being Multicultural but I am against fazing out what makes us all unique.

I've noticed it somewhat..but it only applies to a minority. I think there are many groups who are not westernized.

The Japanese are known for taking on characteristics of more powerful countries than themselves. For example, when they battled the Chinese many centuries ago, and lost they decided to take up the writing and clothing style of the Chinese. Kanji is derived from the Chinese characters and the kimono is modified from the Chinese traditional dress. The reason why they are slowly (though it may seem rapid, it's really not that quickly) taking up the Western culture is due to the fact that we were the powerhouse of World War II. We won the war with our more advanced knowledge of weaponry and therefore, they came to admire us, though still dislike us as the same time. As one Japanese man put in while I was there "We (America) are number one!" and they want to learn as much as they can so that they can be that way too. Though, I am regretful that they have somewhat forgotten about their traditions, they are still there, side by side, if a little weaker.

I see this as not a problem because they still got their culture. Even though most speak English it is the same over here as Spanish. Nothing is going to make them change their culture.

Learning English ensues (begins) westernization. It's actually part of a theory I have been thinking about for a while, one that states that when you learn and then speak a foreign language, your personality seems to change to adapt the speaking style of the language. That, and unless you know quite a bit of vulgar vocabulary it is hard to be angry in another language.
But anyway, America won WWII and became the superpower of the world. We helped rebuild a destroyed Japan and Japan (in the mist of becoming an economic powerhouse) adapted business, technology, medicine and such. All three of those mentioned fields are primarily dealt with in English. It is a vicious cycle.
That being said, I don't really think it is that much of a problem. The youth embraces the westernized imports that Japan has made it's own, but the general population takes in what it needs from the culture, but isn't replacing it with their own all too much. Japan is still a pretty different culture than from the US. That's partly due to the language. The other part is cultural values that have been passed down (even unconsciously) to the next generation.

Though, I am regretful that they have somewhat forgotten about their traditions, they are still there, side by side, if a little weaker. Actually, the Japanese and Chinese are basically related. This explains why they have many similar traditions. I believe that Japan took some Chinese culture, but it's not entirely true that the Japanese took traditions from foreign countries because they lose, it is because they want to become stronger and be accepted by its neighbors or more stronger countries. Japan in WWII only wanted to expand and gain power to be accepted by the great powers such as France, Great Britain, and the U.S.A. Yet, these countries denied the unbelievable power that Japan possessed, because to simply put it, the Japanese were yellow monkeys, primitive(actually the white people were just racist). The outcome was Pearl Harbor. Also, if a group of people do not adapt, they eventually seize to exist. This is very true in the animal kingdom. If animals can't live in their environment or adapt to it, they die out. Even in the human realm, group of people, such as the Native Americans, have been pretty much wiped out because they were unable to fight off invaders and or adapt to the new European culture. But I believe that the Japanese are still very proud of their culture. Even if they do copy things from the West, they still do it by mixing their own traditions and culture into it.
