COB is not power metal. It's thrash/speed metal.

Why are people so picky of what metal band fall under, or as classified as metal? No one really cares that much on what is what, yeah so dimmu borgir is synphonic black metal, celtic frost is norwegen black metal, and slayer is thrash, the list goes on, but metal is metal. I would hope a guild of metalheads would understand, hell, some people say dimmu borgir or slipknot isnt metal, and that is bullshit

Dimmu Borgir, mediocre though they may be, are legitimately metal. Slipknot, however...I'd rather have my kneecaps chewed off by a rabid beaver than call them metal.

I'm far from fond of they're new stuff like Blooddrunk etc but once in a while I love listening to a few of their albums like Are You Dead Yet. They also put on a sweet show.

But the reason why I will defend Bodom? Their covers. They do Blue Oyster Cult, Journey, Billy Idol and oh yes... Britney Spears lol. They're bloody hilarious and I'd like to hear someone say otherwise smile

I agree, metal is metal.
The genre is better reflected by the listener than the music. The listener applies the label, the band supplies that which is labeled to a genre. They write music that they wanna hear and listeners decide what category the sound falls in.
Just recently was the confusion of Slipknot's genre explained to me.
I dont really "watch" everything everybody listens to, but I know that when I showed my friend my slipknot CD (the first one, which I have always really liked...and really ever known) he realized that we had been talking about two totally different Slipknots. The new Slipknot is no way near as hard as their original CD, so I can see where the debate of genres comes into play.

PS- I love dimmu borgir biggrin

Genres are fact, not something put on by the listener. They are defined by the way the instruments are played, the structure of songs, etc. Slipknot isn't Metal because they use a hard rock song structure and their use of a DJ gives them a hip hop feel, both making them not Metal but Nu-Metal which is not a subgenre of Metal but a subgenre of Rock which uses Metal influences.

Please refer to Digi's post above. Your subjective feelings about genre are, to be blunt, irrelevant. Genre is objectively defined. Again, refer to Digi's post above for an explanation of what Slipknot is. Distorted guitars and the occasional metal riff DO NOT a metal band create (see also: Rammstein).

As for Jordison, I won't deny that he's a competent drummer. He is not, however, the second coming of Raptor Jesus as so many Slipknot fans make him out to be. There are truckloads of drummers with more technical or compositional ability.
