I believe in god.

Shocker eh?

But quite honestly Atheism is the closest thing there is to my personal beliefs.

Let me explain. I believe there is a god, but my definition on what god is is very unconventional. It's not something you could pray to, and he/it is definitely not omnipotent.

I believe that we, as just humans, can't accurately and unbiasedly explain the nature or meaning of god. I also believe there is a limit to what science as we know it can explain everything that is out there. It'd be extremely arrogant to say that even given unlimited time we'd be able to explain literally every phenomena down the smallest detail. Basically I feel that god is the mystery, the part of the universe which holds the unifying and fundamental basis for all existence. The very fabric which holds reality together.

There is more to what I believe than that, most of which alienates me even further from conventional religion, like I do feel very strongly in the theory of evolution.
User ImageAre you a pantheist? Contrary to the ideas of some, pantheism doesn't necessarily imply a belief in any conscious deities, and is a form of semi-spiritual atheism for some people. I float somewhere between agnostic atheist and pantheist. I don't believe in any sky fairies, per se, but I don't discount the possibility that I may be wrong about that. I do, however, feel that it is likely that there is "something" out there that people mistake for their personal deities... something unconscious that connects the whole universe somehow. I don't call it "God" (I don't call it anything, really), but I feel it in fleeting moments of oneness with the world.User Image

It's similar to pantheism, but not the same. There are a lot of beliefs that similar to mine, but none of them are something I would personally say I ascribe to. I call my religious beleives "Universal Transcendentalism", because the nature of "God" is a universal aspect, but that "god" transcends the traditional form of description. That last part could mean a lot of things, I won't get specific though.

I guess people would call me agnostic... and no I am not as sangu says a 'fence sitter'. I spent most of my like is differnt churchs. Nearly 11 at a United Methodest church. The hypocrsy disgusts me to this day. I not belive in a higher power, but I agree more with the athists I know then I ever have with the christians I know.
I may go to my grandmother's church to help clean or set up with functions but the last place I want to be is in a service. I have a hard time listening to my grand mother "My jesus! Wounderful savoir!" Makes me want to gag. Like when the precher at my grandfather's FUNERAL spent more time talking about the wounders of god and being SAVED then the dead NASA scinetist how spent the last sevral months in contant pain.
I have more issues with how christans act then the thought of a higher power. I beleive that weak people need to believe in "God's mercy" Just to get by.
I'd like to have a few Christians talk about their veiws that are open and won't take offence.

Christians that talk about their views (not shove them in your face, or at somebody's dead face), that are open and won't take offence are not really christians. I mean, they may think that jesus was "the" man and stuff, but if they are open minded, then i can assure you they're not really christians. They're agnostic-believers. Especially if they know their biology.

And tenth, so far i haven't flamed ANY christian on this guild. If anything i was flaming YOU for saying that you're agnostic/atheist and then follow (and act out) christian values. And even then, i wasn't flaming you cuz you were acting christian, but because you dare to call yourself an atheist AND follow the "christian" way of life.

It wasn't ME the one who tried to flame christians with comparisons to hitler; it isn't ME coming up with jokes about the christian god (i haven't posted ANY jokes at all, except maybe a link to south parks vid of "evolution"); And it is usually YOU guys (sangu, tenth, caustic, dathu, etc) the ones that try to say "well that's dumb, yeah hitler is a christian but there's many racist/killer atheists too." And by doing so FLAMING those retards that don't have arguments against religion/gods other than they don't like to sit in church every sunday, or that don't know what they're talking about.

Other than that, yeah... i agree with you. Flaming christians disgusts me. It is their hypocritical books and attitudes derived from them that i falme tho, so *phew* i'm good then.

I don't want to come into your guys' argument, but I do have an objection: What's wrong with making jokes about God? neutral

I joined this guild because I wanted a forum in which I could freely express, among other things, how funny I find the concept of a spirit in the sky. It's an atheist guild; so how could joking about things that the guild by its very name claims to be fictional be wrong or offensive? Sure, there might be some Christians here, but in all honesty what were they expecting? It sounds like they're pretty open-minded people; maybe they even get a chuckle out of some of the jokes. I know I laugh at quite a few jokes targeted at atheists: http://www.markstivers.com/cartoons/Cartoons 2005/Stivers-11-7-05-wrong-deity.gif

All I'm saying is lighten up. Nobody's going to go commit suicide because of this: http://www.funnyfreak.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/bible-loophole.jpg

Or at least I hope nobody's that stupid.
