One.

Who: Nikita and Christian.
Where: The Compound.
What: Nikita tells Christian that he's been chosen to watch a kid, and shows him to his apartment.

The Appointment

"Hello? .... Helloooooo!" Christian was nothing if not flamboyant and loud, despite the insistant pounding in his head, and he was incredibly impatient. They'd called him out of bed to remind him of his ******** appointment. An appointment, he'd kindly love to remind them, in which he was told a name, a building, and a place. Not why the appointment was being called, not even why he was here. Just a place, a time, and a name. Nikita.

It reminded him of the one drag-queen he'd dated for a while. Nikita Von Dyke, that's what her name was. Ahh, Nikita. A mouth like a Hoover.

Anyway. Back on track.

When, finally, the wall embedded door opened and he saw a sterile hallway, Christian walked into the building. He headed down to the office where he was supposed to meet Nikita, and knocked on the door loudly.

"Hello? I'm supposed t'meet Mr. Nikita about some appointment or somethin'." He said bluntly, knocking insistantly. "Helloooo..."

"Hello?"

Nikita blinked owlishly at Christian, wondering for a moment who this was, before he remembered there was an appointment this morning. For once, the higher-ups had sent the information to the guardian - usually he took care of that.

So he wasn't sure how much this potential already knew...he normally sent basic information along with the letter, but who knew with this one.

"Ah, yes, I'm Nikita...are you - Christian?"

He tapped on his laptop as he spoke, bringing up the calender, and noting that this must be Christian; he'd been right about the time. It was either Christian, or someone who got their appointment time wrong.

Christian took a moment to properly analyze Nikita, and tilted his head owlishly, blinking. Then he seemed to realize what Nikita said, and smiled. "Yeah, I'm Christian." He smiled at him, and walked towards him, holding out a hand. "Christian Parker."

He then quirked a brow, and eyed him, this time more curiously. "Uh, mind if I ask what I'm doing here? They just sent me a paper with a time, a place, and your name. No information, really." He said sheepishly, grinning.

Nikita eyed Christian's hand for a moment, before awkwardly reaching out and shaking it. He wasn't used to contact with people, so shaking hands was still strange to him. Not to mention that it hadn't been done in his homeland; shaking hands was such a strange greeting, to him.

"They...didn't tell you? I'm sorry...I normally handle the letters, but the higher-ups took care of it this time..."

And apparently just wanted to make it harder on him. He just knew this was punishment for not convincing Melvin to stay on the compound, and having to go to them to argue his side.

"Well, um...alright. I work for Divinity; we're an organization studying Sylphs. Sylphs are, w-well...beings of energy. We've begun to find some who are curious about being human - so we've been helping them become human. We, ah, need people to help us raise them now, though - they apparently become children, when becoming human."

Good, his spiel all out at once...now he could breathe.

"...so, yes. We need guardians for children."

When Nikita's spiel had been finished, Christian stared. Flatout stared at the man in front of him, one eyebrow twitching just a little. "... Kids." Children, kids, same thing. Nonetheless, they wanted... "You bunch want me to be a guardian for some kid?"

Woah, what a switch. Usually people told him NOT to have kids. "I, uh... I don't know if I'm the best candidate for a kid, to be honest." He said sheepishly, rubbing his neck. Christian watched Nikita, curiously, then put his hands behind his head.

"What would I be needin' to do?" He asked finally, shoulders slumping a bit. It couldn't be too bad, and it wasn't like he was flat out agreeing...

Nikita drew back, almost unconciously, when Christian stared at him; he didn't like people staring at him. It was weird, and especially nerve-wracking when he wasn't sure if it was a good-stare or a bad-stare.

Uh. Were there good stares? ...nevermind.

"Well...you'd have to live on the compound; we have apartments set up for guardians. From there on - you would just raise the Sylph. "

He couldn't tell someone how to raise a child...he'd had enough mishaps just raising Sariael, and she had been a good child, at that.

"We'd have to move here?" Well, that was a perk, actually... Fresh start, in a way. Nonetheless, raising a kid, even a Sylph, seemed like a bit of a strain on Christian.

He tilted his head at Nikita, and bit his lip, thinking. "Is there anything more to it, though?" He asked, frowning at him. "I mean... Why do we need to live on the compound?" He asked, crossing his arms over his stomach lightly in a regular Christian fashion. "It sounds... fairly good." He admitted.

"Well...this is still experimental, s-so, we aren't completely sure if there will be any surprises along the way."

Asides from the whole sense thing, anyway; that surprise had been evident from that start. And it was difficult, but nothing too bad; they just wanted to make sure nothing really bad happened. And there were always other reasons, of course, but they weren't exactly things he could tell a guardian.

"And, um...well, there are some issues with their senses. Our results so far have indicated that the Sylphs have one very enhanced sense - but another is very limited, as a result. So, some of them can be a bit...difficult...when young."

Christian nodded a little, and snorted, watching Nikita wordlessly. "So that's probably why we have to live on the compound, right?" He asked, tilting his head. Then he seemed to make the decision on the back, and grinned, bemused.

"Hell, why not." He said after a minute, watching Nikita closely. "Could be a giggle, right? And, stayin' here won't be too bad."

He'd probably have to close the bookshop, or at least find someone to work there when he couldn't be now that he had a kid, but...

Well, hey, why not ask?

"I have a problem though. Not with stayin' here, that's just fine. I own a bookshop, you see. I can find someone else to work with me there, but... Will I be able to take the kid off the compound to the store when I do have to work?"

Because that might just be a problem, you see.

"Oh - yes, that's fine."

This fellow had just a strange way of speaking, Nikita decided; but then, a lot of Gaians seemed that way to him. They probably thought he spoke strangely - and he knew he did - but it still puzzled him.

"It's ok to take the Sylph off the compound...they just c-can't live off compound."

Except in extenuating circumstances. And as far as the higher ups were concerned, there were no extenuating circumstances - except in one case, so far. And that was on a time-limitation, at that.

Christian nodded calmly, and then smiled, watching Nikita. Then he looked around, absently, and snorted. "It should be a giggle," came the answer finally, and he looked back at Nikita, grinning.

"So, what do I do now? I've agreed, obviously." He lifted an eyebrow. "What comes next?"

"Next?"

For a moment, Nikita simply blinked at Chirstian for a moment. Then his brain kickstarted, and he moved past his deer in the headlights moment.

"N-next, well...there's not much to do until the Sylph is born. Unless you want a tour...there's some paperwork, b-but I'll just mail it to you."

Show the places he could live, anyway. Not a tour of the whole compound.

Christian nodded to Nikita, and grinned a bit. "Well then." He shrugged, and nodded to him. "Let's see this place, yeah?" He waited for Nikita to lead the way, looking around himself wordlessly. It sounded like a pretty nice deal, considering he'd only have to raise a kid.

What trouble could one kid get into anyway?

Someone, please, knock on wood for Christian.

Nikita stood, and gestured for Christian to follow him, as he exited through the door opposing the entrance. It led into a hallway, with mailboxes set in the wall.

"All the mail on the c-compound gets put here...your apartment key opens your box."

He didn't waste much time there, though, leading the way out and through the next door - to the outdoors. From the spot by the door, it seemed almost like a miniature town was enclosed within the walls of the compound; buildings here and there, scattered seemingly haphazardly. There were walkways to each building.

At least there was plenty of grass. And trees, here and there...

"This is the compound. Um, there are some p-places guardians aren't allowed to go, but those will be locked, so you should be ok."

Locked, or guarded, depending on where it was.

Quietly, Nikita began on one of those paths that wrapped around a few other buildings, before finally reaching one.

Christian listened to Nikita explain the different places, he followed along with the tour and looked around like a good boy. But the mention of locked buildings perked his curiosity. "And what are in those locked places?" He asked, looking towards Nikita. "Or is that classified?" He grinned, eyes dancing innocently.

Christian followed him to one of the buildings, looking around the compound curiously. It was weird, here, almost like a community away from the world. Thats what it was, really, but it gave off an eerie vibe to Christian. Maybe he was just being paranoid. Yeah, that was all. Paranoia was setting in. Nothing to be worried about, really.

Except, y'know, a kid. Yeah.

"W-well, some of it's just things that are...sensative. The magic can be very dangerous, and this is p-primarily a place of research."

So, in other words, it wouldn't be too safe if unknowing guardians walked into some places. The ritual where the Sylph was brought to human form was incredibly dangerous - the ones binding them to human form remained locked in the room it took place it, until complete, so matter how long.

The slightest mistake, in those cases, could go very badly.

Nikita led Christian into the building he had chosen, now; the entryway was decent. Nothing special, but an alright place.

"This is one of our apartment buildings...we have some that are a little less quality then this, and some a little better."

He pulled a keychain out of his pocket then, retrieving a key off of it, and opening a door: they were still on the first floor, and this apartment didn't have any current residents.

He nodded quietly, and looked around the entryway. Nothing really stood out to him about this place, but his curiosity was perked about the research that went on here. He had a feeling that if he asked, though, Christian wasn't going to get any answers.

"Of course." He said, and looked around. "Is this where I'll be staying or is this just a general idea of what they look like?" Christian asked, watching Nikita open the door and waiting to be led through it.

"Well...there are lots of ap-apartments, so we could always get you a different one."

Nikita entered into the apartment, and stepped to the side as he waited for Christian to follow. The apartment was alright; it was clean, had basic furniture already in it...a very spacious kitchen, with a counter seperating it from the living room. All in all, a normal place.

"You d-don't have to pick this one, but if you do like it, we can assign this one to you..."

Christian looked around the apartment, and nodded a little, grinning a little. "It's... a lot better than my old place." He admitted, looking over at Nikita. "This apartment's fine." He said lightly, looking around again.

"Is it okay if we decorate?" He asked, not looking at Nikita and this time at the walls. His artistic mind demanded that no walls were white. ... Except maybe in the kid's room. But that's because he'd let them decorate. Christian hummed as he went into the living room, looking around.[

"Yes, decorating is fine..."

Otherwise these apartments would all be rather plain. Nikita knew that his own had acquired a distinctive style all of its own over time - comfortable. That's what his place was.

Nikita followed quietly, letting Christian examine the rooms.

"If this ones alright, then I c-could go ahead and asign it to you. You could start moving in before the Sylph arrives, even."

Christian grinned a little, and nodded, looking over at Nikita. "That'd be great. Then things'll be set up before the kid gets here. ... To a point." Artistic freedom for the win. He turned, and tilted his head, watching him.

"So! What's left to see?" He asked curiously, reaching up and tugging gently on his ears. A habit that he'd dropped until recently. He gave Nikita a wide grin, trying to be friendly. The poor guy looked like he needed something.

Christian attempting to be friendly was a good thing, but it only took away a marginal amount of Nikita's nervousness; he was simply uncomfortable with people he didn't know. Or people in general, really.

Attempting to be friendly back, the man offered a hesitant smile at Christian, before faltering and speaking.

"Well...most places guardians aren't allowed. B-but there are some spots outside, with grills," nice little picnic spots, really - but he never spent much time there, "Other then that, this was all I really had to show..."

Unless the man wanted a general tour of the compound, anyway. But that would be rather boring - 'here's where they do bla-bla-bla research, and bla-bla-bla' - that sort of thing. And of course, he would only be able to show the builings to him; not the wokings.

He nodded and looked around the apartment, thinking for a minute. Then he looked over. "If you don't mind, actually, I'd like to start moving things into the apartment and decorating things a bit before the child gets here." He smiled. "I'm sure you understand."

Christian looked thoughtful, then, and tilted his head. "Do I get a key, or do the apartments lock themselves?" He wouldn't be surprised, this place seemed kind of... well, high tech?

"Oh! Yes, yes, of course."

Pulling a keychain out of his pocket, Nikita again rummaged through it before pulling a key off. Then, he offered it to Christian; there were always two copies of the apartments keys. One went to the guardian, one remained with Divinity.

"Here you are...Ah, I suppose if you need any help, or have any q-questions, come find me."

Christian nodded, and took the key, stowing it away in his pocket for later. He grinned and nodded to him. "I will." He promised, smiling at him. "I'll see you around, Nikita." He turned, and headed out, to go get a couple friends to help him move things in and decorate.

A kid. Yikes.

Two.

Who Christian, Nikita, and Dorian.
Where The Compound: Entry Hall/Front Shop.
What Christian picks up Dorian, a curious little boy with... green hair?

The Pick-Up

Christian received a note stating that his child had arrived, and he set off almost immediately. It wasn't like it was a far walk, he'd had the few things he needed to move in, (clothes, movies, ect.) and he'd been in the process of painting the apartment so it wasn't so bland, when he got the urge to check the mail.

To say Christian was eager was a bit of a stretch. He was downright anticipating the child's arrival. So when the note had came, he went upstairs long enough to set it down, and locked the apartment up, before going down to pick up his child from the same building he'd first met Nikita in. Good place as any to pick up the kid, right?

He walked through the grassy area, and into the hallway that contained the mailboxes, and he walked right past those to the entry hall. If he had gone to the wrong place, then perhaps someone could point things out. But, y'know. Best place to start, at least. And boy, was he ready to start.

Christian had, indeed, gone to the correct place; this was where Nikita always waited for the guardans to arrive. Many guardians hadn't moved in yet by this point, so this was the most logical place to wait.

Today, Nikita sat at the desk, tapping away at his laptop; the only addition to the room that was out of the ordary, was the green-haired boy also in the room: Dorian. Although he didn't actually have a name yet.

Nikita seemed very tired; in fact, he was in the middle of a yawn when Christian entered the room.

"Someone sounds tired." Christian grinned as he came into the room, looking right over at Nikita, since he'd given away his spot with that yawn. "You look exhausted. Things okay?" He asked, always friendly. Nikita definitely gave off the shy vibe, and that was never fun.

Dorian pushed his glasses up quietly, and looked up at the man who entered, frowning curiously. He sniffed, and the man's scent hit his nose almost instantly. Light, he was apparently careful about keeping himself clean. And... different. He frowned, trying to figure out what he smelled like. To the Sylph who'd just recently gained a body, this was the most unique scent since...well....

Nikita.

"Is this him?" Dorian asked quietly, looking over at Nikita and watching him with those big brown eyes, through his lenses. He was lucky, his sight wasn't so bad now that he couldn't make out things. Things were a tad blurry without his glasses, but for now, it was livable.

Poor thing didn't know what it'd be like in the future.

Christian looked over when he heard the voice, and grinned a little. "Hi there." He greeted, walking over. "I'm Christian."

"... Hi." came the mumbled response. Dorian looked down again, blushing a little. This was another shy one.

Offering a small smile to Christian, he nodded in response to the question, "..didn't get much sleep last n-night."

He'd been up late working on some things for Dmitriev. Good grief...he always waited until the last minute to spring stuff like that on Nikita - and then, of course, he expected it all by the next morning. Ugh. One of these days, he'd learn to say no.

Of couse, that was probably also the day he'd get fired.

"Yes, this is your guardian..."

He watched the two, quietly, and found himself smiling to himself; it looked like a good pairing. Dorian seemed like a very sweet boy.

"Oh, ah...have you come up with a name for him?"

Christian nodded to Nikita, and frowned. "You should get some sleep. Or coffee." He grinned. "A nap would probably be better for you though." He mused, amused.

Dorian watched the interaction, and found himself curious. Christian's scent changed when he interacted with Nikita. He wondered why to himself, but didn't have it in him to ask.

When Nikita asked if Christian had come up with a name, he looked sheepish. "I, uh... I actually have a list." He muttered, and looked at Dorian. "But... to be honest, you don't seem to fit any of the names."

Dorian's shoulders fell, and he looked down at his feet. "I'm sorry." He apologized, wiggling his toes a little. Christian blinked, and snorted.

"Don't be, love." He grinned and crouched down in front of him. "... How's Dorian sound to you?"

Dorian looked up, and frowned, thinking about the name. It was a pretty cool name. "... Okay." He gave Christian a shy smile. "I like it." He admitted, looking at Nikita.

"What do you think?" Christian asked, looking over at Nikita and grinning.

Nap...a nap would be nice, wouldn't it? Maybe he would head back to his apartment and take a quick one, once this was done; although, he did still have more work to do...

Perhaps coffee was a good idea, then; he needed to remember to put a coffee machine in here, sometime. "I might make some coffee after this, I suppose..."

Yes, that was best. Otherwise, he'd likely sleep until night - and then his inner clock would be confused. Although if Dmitriev sprang more work on him, then that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing.

Blinking at Christian and the newly-named Dorian, he gave an approving nod, "...g-good. It suits him."

Christian grinned a little, and nodded. He looked at Dorian, amused. "Your bedroom's not decorated yet, I thought you'd like to do that yourself. And we can pick up a couple things." He promised, nodding to him.

Dorian nodded, and scooted off his chair, walking over in front of Nikita and looking up at him around his laptop. "I guess I'm going now." He said, watching Nikita. "But I'll see you around?" He asked, frowning a little at him. It'd be weird not to, honestly.

Christian smiled a little. "Sure you will, Dorian." He said, touching the top of his head and toying with the green hair. Dorian sniffed at him, grumbling, and scooted away from Christian, fixing his hair. Not like it was much of an improvement, it was a right mop to begin with!

"You could come and see us when you're not working, right?" Dorian smiled at Nikita, lighting up a little. "It's not far, it's just in one of the buildings." He even added, grinning.

Christian laughed a little. "Looks like you've got a buddy." He grinned at Nikita, amused. It'd probably be good for Nikita to have a little buddy around. Even if it did get annoying.

Nikita smiled down at Dorian, and gave him an affirmative nod. The poor kid was probably scared...but it was understandable. The first people he met - the mages who had made him human - were always exhausted when they finished, and had no doubt been rather brusque. The first person to be more then businesslike with the kid was him.

And now, he was going with - to him - a complete stranger; it was understandable that he'd be nervous. So, he made a mental note to come visit Dorian at some point.

"Mm, I'll c-come see you, Dorian."

The blonde let out a quiet chuckle at Christian's comment.

Dorian's face split into a wide grin when Nikita had said he'd come see him, and he nodded quietly, turning and looking at Christian. "'Kay." was all he said, though Christian took it to mean he was alright with going with him now.

He looked at Nikita, and grinned. "You know where the apartment is, whenever you want to visit. I'm going to take him to go get a couple things for his room, though, and... check on my bookstore." Christian looked sheepish; he really didn't trust the man he'd set up for his replacement. As much as he might love Nicodemus, he wasn't... adversely friendly.

He was a fighter, not a friend.

"We're allowed to leave?" That struck Dorian for a bit of a shock. He'd gotten the impression, from how everything smelled so... professional... that he'd be stuck on the compound with whoever else that lived there. Leave? Go outside the walls? ... He wondered what it'd smell like out there.

"Oh, yes..."

Nikita hadn't considered that the Sylph might not realize he could leave - not permanently of course, but for short times it was fine. And while he wondered about the comment of checking on his bookstore - was it that busy?

"There's a lot out there, too: stay c-close to Christian, hm?"

Gaia never seemed like the safest place in the world for a young child, so he thought that suggestion would be a good idea.

"I will." came the quiet reply, Dorian glancing back at Nikita with those big brown eyes and smiling quietly. Then he looked at Christian. Going out there sounded like quite an adventure, Dorian could feel little bugs stirring in his tummy already.

Christian smiled at Nikita. "Try not to work yourself into a grave, alright Nikita?" He put a hand on Dorian's shoulder, to steer him to the door. Dorian's shoulder slumped under the hand, and he blinked up at him, then got it.

He shot a grin over to Nikita, small but still obviously grinning, and went over to Nikita, holding his hand out since a hug might be much. "I'll see you around, Nikita." He said quietly, smiling at him.

Christian went to the door leading out of the compound and onto the busy streets, and waited for Dorian, smiling a little. It was kind of nice, all domestic with a kid. ... Sort of, anyway.

Work himself into a early grave...yeah, that was probably likely. Wait - what would happen if the body died? It wasn't his, so did that mean that he would just...revert to immaterial form until he could acquire a new one?

With a bit of effort, he pushed those disturbing thoughts aside.

Nikita blinked down at Dorian, and shifted his gaze to the hand. Was...he wanting to shake hands? A little kid wanted to shake hands with him? That seemed so strange.

Uncertain of how to respond, he reached out and shook the offered hand, feeing a sting in his hand, as the bandages rubbed.

Then he watched as Dorian, left, still feeling a bit bewildered. But then he shook his head, and called after,

"..have f-fun!"

Journal Entry.

Who Christian Parker.

So apparently...

So, apparently, I'm having a kid.

And no, before anyone has an aneurysm, I don't mean like that. Wow, you folks and your imagination. Yeesh.

No, the corporation Divinity is apparently experimenting with something, to bring these spirits, the Sylph? to life. And they need guardians, because they become kids, apparently.

And that, folks, is how and why I have a kid who looks no older than ten sitting on my floor, sniffing my indoor garden. ... He's not human, cut him some slack.

His name's Dorian, and he's a pretty cute kid. Green hair, but I think that sort of works with his sense. Scent of Pine. It kind of sounds like something you'd buy for twenty five cents, right? He's pretty shy, but he... well. Watches everything.

I think.

He says things are kind of blurry. I guess he doesn't have good eyesight, poor kid. But he seems to be adapting well.

Nicodemus thinks that he is a cute little runt. I don't think Dorian took to being called a runt very well, but... Eh. That's Nico for you. Lackadaisy Books seems to be doing okay with him running things, so I'm not entirely worried.

...... Hey, where'd he go--

I gotta go back later bye!

"DORIAN DON'T TOUCH THAT--"

CRASH!

Three.

Who Christian, Dorian, Malen, and Gil.
Where The Compound: First the Picnic Area, and then Malen and Gil's apartment.
What An unofficial play-date between Dorian and Gil, who meet... And then try to fly. And Christian meets an unexpectedly cute new friend.

Note Because of the length (six pages in thread), I'll only be posting the first page, and then a LINK to the original thread. Thank you.

The Blind and the Painless.

Dorian sat on the picnic bench, eyes wide as he watched an inchworm crawl its way along the wooden plank. He was exploring, while Christian was sitting a little distance away on a blanket, laying on his back and snoozing. He'd already set up lunch on the blanket beside him, for Dorian to eat when he felt ready.

He was exhausted, Dorian'd been up late sniffing and exploring every little thing. He'd gotten a good whiff of the world, and a lot of new things to compare them to. So he was doing so. And this inchworm... smelled like dirt. He reached a finger down, ready to squish it and see if it smelt different, when the wind shifted.

He looked up, blinking, and tried to make out the sudden change with his glasses. Stupid useless things, really, since he couldn't exactly see in color unless they were bright, like his walls (painted a bright blue) and his bed (white). But someone was coming, he could smell a difference.

It smelled like... like... something spicy. He frowned, and turned, waiting to see what was coming. He wasn't going to move until he knew it was safe, because Christian had already been over the stranger-danger thing. At least twelve times.

It wasn't like he meant to follow that old lady. Sheesh!

Gil barreled as the grassy lawn as fast as his legs would carry him. He had escaped, gotten away from those who would keep him captive and now he was free to explore. Well in his mind anyways, in reality Malen was walking slowly after him refusing to let him get out of sight.

For the moment though Gil didn't care, he was outside seeing the world. Malen had kept him inside the past few days making certain Gil knew enough of how things were supposed to go before he was allowed outside. Of course the inside of his house had been pretty interesting too but there was only so much space in an apartment to explore.

Spotting someone else his age he adjusted his course to head towards them. " Hey" yep that was it, just hey that was all Gil could manage while running.

Dorian's eyes went wide when a sudden blur came out of nowhere, and his grip on the table grew a bit harder, until Gil was in somewhat clearer vision, nearing him. He heard the greeting, and blinked, then looked down sheepishly. "Hi." was all he could manage, looking down shyly.

He glanced up, after a minute, and tried to take in the details of the boy. He seemed to be around Dorian's age, maybe he was another Sylph? He tilted his head at him, and sniffed. That's what the spicy scent was, it stung his nose a little, but not in a particularly bad way. "I'm Dorian." He said after a minute of observing the newcomer curiously.

He smelled another presence, but it was somewhat more subdued than this one, probably due to distance. So Dorian paid no mind to the guardian coming up on him.

Unable to get a proper feel for the bottom of his feet on the ground through his shoes Gil failed to make a proper stop and tumbled to the ground right in front of Dorian. In the process he got a mouthful of grass, which in Gil's opinion tasted pretty good sort of sweet.

He would have furthered his exploration on the taste of grass if he hadn't been a bit more interested on the other boy. Rolling onto his back he stared up with bright green eyes at the boy who reminded him somewhat of himself. They even boy had eye wear though His were read and called goggles, they'd been given to him by Del.

"Hi Dorian, I'm Gil."

Malen hung back watching the boy's interact. For the moment has going wrong so he'd let them be.

Dorian tried not to laugh when the boy stumbled to a stop in front of him, and fell face first into the grass. He covered his mouth with one hand and bit down, hard enough to bring tears to his eyes, and then sniffed, wiping his eyes. "It's nice to meet you, Gil." He was exercising the manners he'd picked up on his day out with Christian.

He tilted his head to the side, and smiled meekly. "Are you a..." The question died on his lips, because it didn't sound like it was coming out right. He blushed, and looked down. "Sorry." came a mumbled apology. Then he looked up again, and smiled, trying again.

"Ever see an inchy bug?" He turned back to the table, and scouted out for his preyed inchworm. Finding it, he pointed with one finger, grinning. "Smells like dirt." He said, looking over at Gil and smiling. The boy seemed nice, and he looked sort of like him. The goggles were different, though, since Dorian just had a simple pair of glasses.

Rolling over and crawling to his feet Gil let his gaze followed Dorian's finger. He'd seen the creature before and nodded " Yes on the thing I can't watch." The show his name had come from, the one with the smart person people liked. Gil wanted to be smart like that, to be liked.

Remembering Dorian's half question he looked at the other boy " Am I?' Was he what?

"What thing?" He blinked at him owlishly, then looked back at the worm inching along. When Gil had brought up what he'd begun to ask, he cringed. "Nothin'." He said, looking over and grinning. "Nevermind that."

He got up, and looked around. He spotted the blur that he was sure was Christian, since it smelled like oranges and creme like Christian did, and pointed at him. "That's my guardian, Christian." He looked over and grinned. "He's sleepin'." So stated the little Prince of the Obvious.

"D'you have one?" He meant a guardian, but assumed Gil would understand the question. And it'd sort of answer what he urged to ask, if he was what Dorian had been called, a Sylph. Or whatever it was.

Gil shrugged off Dorian's refusal to answer and gave his own. " The thing on the t.v the show I can't watch. With the bugs and stuff." He supposed Malen had been right about that, his first night after watching his name show he'd had horrible dreams about bugs all over him that had made him wake up screaming.

Gil looked at the sleeping guardian and smiled, Malen did that just laid down and slept sometimes . Sometimes it was eve on the net thing on the porch.

At the question Gil nodded dark green bangs falling into his eyes . He gestured wildly in the direction Malen should have been. " Yeah an he's nice an I have a sister and a dragon and little dragons." He boasted,a bit proud of his large family.

Malen waved at the boys despite the fact that Gil wasn't really looking at them. The bounty hunter was content to lean against a wall and watch while the Guardian slept.

Dorian blinked, and nodded a little, looking down at the inch worm again. "Are you terribly attached to this inchy thing?" It wouldn't matter either way, because Dorian didn't wait for his answer. He reached out with his thumb...

And squished the inchworm under his finger. He sniffed his finger then, and made a face. "It still smells like dirt. And... yucky stuff." He made a face, and wiped his finger on the grass, sitting up and looking around. "Let's find some other... bug." He got up, grinning, and wiped his pants off. "Maybe there's one that doesn't smell like dirt." It wasn't a pleasant smell. Yeesh.

Malen wouldn't be alone in the world of Guardianship for long, because Christian was starting to wake up. He stirred, and yawned loudly, before sitting up and rubbing his eyes. He immediately sought out Dorian, and seeing him fairly safe and with some other kid, looked around.

And he saw him some eye candy. Yum. He eyed Malen, then got up, rubbing his eyes, and headed over. Someone to talk to to save his sanity. "Hey." He greeted, grinning at him.

Gil stared at Dorian, why had he done that? Couldn't he smell the inchy thing without breaking it. Still the prospect of adventure soon sweapt away any doubts about the boy he had. " Ok, a bright one maybe bright smells better becuase it's light and dark smells bad becuase it's dark."

Gil was also curious about bright ones might taste, he wouldn't squish them to find out though he wouldn't want to taste the inside just the bright part.

Malen smiled at the other guardian " Hey, having a good nap?" he teased good naturedly. He himself was prone to napping when he had spare time, not that there was much of it these days with Gil around

Christian snorted at Malen, and leaned on the wall. "Best one since I got Dorian. ... First one since I got Dorian, actually, but..." He snorted, and grinned at him, holding out a hand. "I'm Christian Parker." He introduced himself, beaming and taking the split second to eye him.

Dorian nodded, curious about his theory. "That might work." He mused, grinning and heading off with Gil in the grass to hunt out a bright bug. He got down on his hands and knees, nearly nose-in-dirt close to the grass, and started looking. From this small distance between him and the grass, he could see better. All the better to hunt bugs with, my dear.

"If you see one, lemme smell it!" He said over his shoulder, taking a minute to look up and grin at Gil.

"... Dorian! Are you smellin' bugs?"

"Yes!"

"..." Christian rubbed his nose. "I don't know if I should let him do it or tell him not to. Honestly." He mumbled, ruefully. The child baffled him, most kids didn't go about sniffing bugs. ... Or other people, for that matter. Lucky him!

" Malen, just Malen" The bounty hunter said taking the offered hand. He had missed the other's mans swift evaluating look but it didn't bother him any. He enjoyed being looked at, especially after the disaster with Ianna. " Kids certainly don't leave much time for sleeping, is he your first?" Malen inquired. He knew that with Del he;d been up all the time panicking as a first time parent. reloading a gun on the run and learning to shoot from a moving vehicle or tackling a tentacled alien was nothing like trying to figure out how to say no to a keep or keep them in your sights.

He laughed softly at his lament about bug smelling " I doubt they let anything on the grounds that can hurt him. Besides it's a kid thing, they explore the world with one sense or another. My now oldest daughter licked the easter eggs she found at an easter egg hunt last year. It was weird but not really a problem."

Gil nodded " Sure" oh for sure he'd share but he was going to taste it first becuase he wanted to do that before it got squished. Pulling down his goggles colouring the world red he began to hunt around for a bright bug.

Christian nodded a little, sheepishly. "Yeah, he's my first." He snorted, and rubbed his neck. "I didn't think I'd even have one but... I dunno. It's pretty cool." He grinned sheepishly. "It's weird having him around, though. He keeps sniffing people out." He admitted, amused.

The face of Nicodemus when Dorian had first smelled him and covered his nose... It was just priceless, to be honest.

"What about him?" He nodded to Gil, grinning. "He your first, or no?" It would come to a shock to Christian if it was, he seemed pretty relaxed about the kid running around and doing his thing. Christian was still getting used to the idea of being responsible for a kid.

A pet? Was one thing. A kid, however...

Dorian tried to sniff out the bugs, but since they smelled of dirt... It was a bit harder to find them. But he was successful! He picked up a bug, and looked over at Gil. "I found one! And it's bright, too!" It was a bright yellow caterpillar. "It's fuzzy, though." He frowned. "I dunno if we can play with this one."

" It's Gaia this planet will trap you into kids if you're not careful Having been raised on Earth it was somewhat of a shock when I came to live here. When I finally started getting children it was awkward at first.."he laughed softly " I have three children that were given to me, Kishi who's on her own now, Del who's out with her dragon and Gil. I also have an adoptive daughter sort of named Coailiann from a previous relationship " he sighed at the last bit. hey supposed Kay was the only good thnh to come out of that relationship. " Be careful once you have one the powers that be seem to know and give you more." As he spoke Malen finger his violet and navy braid. It was getting a bit long. Perhaps he should cut his hair again soon.

Gil went over to Dorian and stared at the caterpillar. Through his goggles it looked orange, But it was still bright. He held out his hands for the caterpillar " Let me try." It was a bright bug, who cared if it was fuzzy, whatever fuzzy was.

Christian gulped, and fumed a little, knocking on the first bit of wood he found. "Don't jinx me." He grumbled. "One kid's enough, at least until he's older, y'know?" He sighed. He barely knew what to do with Dorian, let alone three or four or TEN!

He looked over, and grinned a little. "Your hair's pretty." He couldn't help himself sometimes. He tilted his head. "S'long." He mused. Now we know where Dorian gets his obvious nature from. And was Christian flirting? Prooobably. But it was in good nature, honest. He didn't want another relationship, they were costly.

Dorian blinked, and dropped the caterpillar in his hand, watching curiously to see what he'd do to it. "Still smells like dirt to me." He pointed out, pouting a little. Maybe the brightness didn't change the smell of bugs. Stupid bugs, yeesh. At least people smelled differently.

Four.

Who Christian Parker and Dorian.
Where The Compound: Their apartment.
What Christian buys something for Dorian.

It's for writing...

Dorian looked at Nicodemus, who was sitting across from him at the coffee table in the living room, and then looked down at the monopoly board, frowning a little while he tried to postpone for time. There was no way he'd win this game, Nico had the Boulevards, the lucky booger-head. His moment would come soon however, because after a couple seconds of stalling, over the rancid smell of Nicodemus and sewer and whatever else the man rolled around in... came the sweet if not somewhat bitter scent of Christian Parker. "Christian's home!"

Christian walked into the apartment with a couple bags in hand, and headed straight for the kitchen, putting the bags down before Dorian could knock into him. He turned and caught the tot full on, grinning, then picked him up. "Hey, Dorian. Were you good for Nicodemus?"

"Yah. He was good." Nicodemus rose, groaning a little in protest as his knees popped, and rubbed his back. "He had me playink Monopoly." Nico grinned a little, amused. "Little runt."

"I'm not a runt!" Dorian scoffed, and glared at Nicodemus through his glasses, then looked at Christian, grinning all over again. "Didja buy me anything?" He asked, trying to peer into the bags.

Christian put a hand on Dorian's forehead and lightly shoved him back away from the bag, amused. "Wait until Nico leaves, Dorian. Don't be rude." Dorian scoffed, while Christian turned to Nico. "Thank you, Nicodemus."

"He vas no trouble." He replied, shrugging at Christian. "I will head back to the store now." Nico eyed Dorian. "Behave, runt."

"I'm not a runt!"

Nicodemus saw himself out, and Christian snorted a little, looking at Dorian. "He only calls you that because it makes you mad." He pointed out, grinning a little.

Dorian grumbled, annoyed, and rolled his eyes. "'m not a runt." He mumbled, looking at the bag. "So what'd ya get me? A video game? A pet!? Is it a snake? No, wait, it's a spider!"

Christian rolled his eyes, and put a hand on his hip, amused. "None of the above, Dorian. It's something you can use."

"But I can use a snake--"

"No!" Christian laughed, and hugged Dorian, amused. Then he dug into one of the bags, and pulled out something wrapped in brown paper. He held it out to Dorian. "Well go on and open it then."

Dorian lit up; a present! He tore open the paper, and lifted an eyebrow at the gift in his hands. "It's a book."

"A journal, Dor. So you can write in it."

".... Ohhh. ... Will you teach me how to write?" He asked, looking up at Christian with big brown eyes.

Christian smiled, and nodded. "Sure, if you want. We can work on it after dinner tonight."

Dorian grinned, and hugged the book, hopping down from the counter. He went over and hugged Christian, then ran into the living room to put away the monopoly game. "Thank you, Christian!"

Christian snorted, and smiled a little, starting to put the groceries away. This was going to be fun.

Journal Entry

Who Dorian

Dear diery...

"Are you sure you're ready to write in it, Dori?"

"Yep! ... I can't write with you over my shoulder, its supposed to be private!"

"Sorry, sorry. I'll let you write."

Note: Just because Dorian calls Christian "Chrischan" in his entries does not in any way mean he's chinese or japanese or acting like it. Just, when Dorian says Christian, it comes out like "Chris-chan". So that's how he spells it until he learns better. ^^ Thank you.

Five.

Who Christian, Dorian, Gil, Malen.
Where The Compound: Christian and Dorian's apartment.
What Dorian and Christian 'cordially invite' Malen and Gil over for a sleepover! Fun and happiness to ensue!

Note Because of the length of the log already, (2 pages and still goin' strong) I will be logging only the first page, and then a link to the entire log itself. Thank you.

Operation Sleepover

Gil sat impatiently in the kitchen, drumming his fingers on the table with one hand. In the other he carefully clutched the invitation they had received from Dori and Chris. Bright green eyes stated at the phone in his guardian's hand, willing it to dial itself faster . It was taking too long, he wanted to see his friend now.

Malen leaned against the kitchen wall and listened to the phone ring. He too was excited about the prospect of seeing the only other neighbors they'd met so far again. Christian and Dorian has both been entertaining and he knew that Gil looked forward to having someone his age to play with.

"Dad! The phone's ringing, it's them!"

Dorian would've yanked the phone off the hook himself, but he wasn't allowed to answer the phone anymore, since last time it'd turned into an argument between Christian and his aunt Bellla. So he waited by the phone, eyes wide and staring expectantly at it, until finally Christian came out of the shower and picked up the phone smoothly.

"Hello?" He said into the ringer, using one smaller towel to dry his hair while he was on the phone, the other wrapped around his waist.

Dorian stared up at Christian and the phone expectantly, big green eyes wide. It just had to be Mister Malen, and that meant they were sleeping over and it was gonna be awesome! Impatient as any child, he drummed his fingers on the couch, staring.

" Hey, it's me. Gil and I just got the invitation. Gil is glaring holes at me to call you back and accept. How are things on your end?" Malen figured Dori was probably as impatient as Gil. Kids at that age usually were.

Gil didn't quite understand how he was glaring holes in Malen but as long as it got him to talk so they could go see Dori he didn't much care.

Dorian didn't miss how Christian lit up when he heard it was Malen, and Christian grinned, laughing a little at what he said. "Things aren't that bad here. Dori's staring at me and has been sittin' by the phone all day." He snorted. "Even before I mailed the invitation."

Dorian blinked, and blushed, sitting back sheepishly. "Just excited, s'all." He mumbled, scoffing. Christian reached over and ruffled his hair, grinning down at him.

"So, yeah." He went back to trying to fully dry his hair with the towel. "If you two wanna come over tonight or wait." He shrugged. "Whichever's best for you two, we're just... hanging out." And showering. But that was okay, he could dress and be ready by the time they got there.

"Tell Gil tonight!"

"..." Christian snorted, laughing, and ignored Dorian, waving at him to be quiet since he was on the phone. Dorian fumed, and stuck his tongue out.

Malen laughed " Sounds like the boys miss each other about the same. Tonight is fine, I think Gil might combust if he had to wait longer and Del is with Kishi for the night so I don't have to worry about her. Just give me a bit to get some stuff together ok?" Malen figured he could also use the time to shove some manner's into Gil's head.

Gil grinned, soon he could see Dori again and tell him about his lessons and that hazard missed him and all the stuff he saw on the t.v at night.

Christian grinned. "Dorian's about the same." He admitted, tossing the towel so it landed on Dorian's head. He huffed, and glared at Christian, grinning anyway. Gil was coming, he'd see him and get to show him his room and his toys and the TV in the living room!

"Alright, that's fine." He smiled and closed his eyes. "It's the very first apartment." He said, amused. "S'not all that big, but it works." He looked around, nodding a little. "So I'll see you and Gil in a little while?" He'd be lying if he didn't say he missed his neighbor just as much as Dori missed Gil.

" Alright and yes about a half hour and we'll be there, see you then." With a smile Malen hung up the phone and looked at Gil " come on we need to pack some things and have a talk."

Gil practically leapt off his chair and raced towards his room " Ok,I know which jammies I want, the ones that glow in the dark with the stars. " Gil wondered what Dorian slept in, he had several jammies but loved the glow in the dark ones best becuase they were fun to count the glow in the dark parts and they helped him see his way to the bathroom.

Malen followed just shaking his head, Tonight was going to be a riot he was sure of that. At least he'd have Chris to commiserate with.

Smiling, Christian hung up the phone and looked over at Dorian, who was lit up ear to ear. "They'll be here in half an hour. Why don't you go--"

Dorian leapt off the couch, and flew towards his room to pick up his toys. That was their condition, his room had to be clean to start with. If it got messy when they were playing... that was okay. But it had to be clean to start! He set out all his really cool and neat toys for both of them, leaving his stuffed bear on the bed. (It had originally been Nico's, but he gave it to Dorian when he was babysitting. And it didn't smell like a sewer, so it was okay.)

Christian laughed, and went back to his room next to Dorian's, cleaning up his own little mess (mostly laundry, which had to get done tomorrow...) and then went about getting dressed.

Half an hour later...

Christian was sitting in the living room watching a cartoon TV show with Dorian, every so often glancing at the door. They'd be here any minute, which just bode all sorts of fun. Dorian was distracted by the TV, so he wasn't paying as much attention as Christian was to the door. They'd get here, Dori just knew it.

" You're slow" Gil admonished Malen from his back. In too much of a hurry to be able to get his shoes tied properly he'd been taken pity on and given a piggy back ride to Dori's house.. it was fun and the world looked a bit different from higher up. However, his guardian moved way too slow for his liking. he wanted to be there now not in a million years.

Malen just shook his head and said nothing. he was carrying both Gil and small dufflebag full of things deemed necessary for the overnight stay. He was going at his own pace and Gil would just have to deal, besides it's not like it took that long to get from their house to Christian and Dorian's.

A few minutes later he was at their door and proceed to knock while Gil wriggled in excitement.

The knocking did not escape Dorian, and his head snapped up, green eyes going wide. "They're here! Christiaaaan! They'reherethey'reherethey'rehere!" He got up, and bolted to the door, opening it because Christian was being slow in getting up. Some old people, sheesh!

"Hi Mister Malen!" Dorian greeted, moving aside to let them in. "Hi, Gil!" He was more excited to see Gil, and after they'd come inside and Dorian closed the door, he outright hugged Gil. "I got my toys all set up and ready to play, wanna go see?" He beamed.

Christian had watched Dorian answer the door from the couch, eyebrow raised, and looked a little amused at Malen. "Hey." He greeted, getting up. "Kid wouldn't let me get up." He snorted, and brushed off his jeans, grinning at Malen. "How's life?"

Gil paused for a moment then nodded. it had all happened to so fasm't he'd slid to the ground as the door opened and had barely been inside before he'd been hugged. Fortunately there had been no kissing. Gil had seen on the t.v that hugs lead to kissing which looked really gross, hugs alone were ok though.

"Yeah, I bet you have really cool stuff." It made him wonder what sort of toys Dorian had to already have them out and ready to be used. Gil usually had to dig througg his box of toys to find something.

He turned his head for a moment and looked at Christian " Thank you for inviting us over." Malen had insisted he be polite when he came over and be thankful.

Malen laughed " I walk too slow apparently. It's becuase we're old you see, we can't move as fast as those young ones." He was amused and then pleased as Gil remembered his manners.

Dorian grinned a little sheepishly, and shrugged at Gil. "They're okay, I guess." He said modestly, looking over and grinning at Christian. After Gil had thanked Christian, Dorian bolted off for his room, expecting the boy to follow after him to play.

Christian grinned at Gil and nodded. "You're welcome, Gil." He said, smiling at him. After the boys had gone, Christian looked over and smirked at Malen. "You might be old, but I'm barely pushin' twenty, thank you very much."

So that was stretching the truth a bit. Who would begrudge Chrissy a couple years? (Four, if you think about it, but you really shouldn't be.)

Dorian let Gil into his room first, and left the door open, bouncing over to the display of toys set up on the floor. He had a number of larger cars to play with, and action figures and whatnot set up for play. His bed was untouched, though, and sitting on it in a haphazard position, was his ratty old bear.

Gil had been greatfull to get away from having to use manners. They were silly and made everything take longer when you talked. Upon entering Dori's room Gil looked around for a moment to take everything in. Everything seemed so different from his own room, though not in a bad way. " You do have a lot of cool stuff."

Looking at Dori Gil tilted his head preparing for question asking. He'd seen people do it on t.v, he didn't know why but it looked fun." So which stuff should we play with first." Surely they'd get through all the toys before the night was through.

With the boys gone Malen just rolled his eyes, " I may be old just I bet I could still take you in a fight even with your on your side." Malen was nearly thirty but he was still in good shape he had lost none of the skills he had hones as a bounty hunter over the years.

"We can play with the cars first if you wanna." Dori offered, grinning at Gil and moving over to where he had a backpack set up, filled to the brim with toys. He picked it up, and opened the backpack, emptying it out onto a spot on the floor. "I don't have a track, but we can make believe there's one if you wanna." He lit up at Gil, grinning.

Christian snorted at him, and then grinned sheepishly. "You're probably right, I can't fight to save my life." Literally. "Why do you think I've got people like Nicodemus to protect me?" He asked, batting his eyelashes like a girl.

"How've things been?" Christian got up, and grinned at Malen. "Want a drink? I've gooot water, and pop, and juice. ... And milk." He snorted a little, and grinned at him, heading past to go into the kitchen to get himself a drink and check on the snacks he'd set up for the boys.

Healthy ones, too! Crackers and cheese, and peanut butter dippy... thingies.

"I got food too, if you're hungry. Though I'm not entirely sure what I've got." He admitted, opening the fridge and rummaging about.

Gil looked at the cars, shiny and sleek looking. They certainly looked like they were fun to play with." Yes we could have races and crashes and stuff." Gil had seen cars on T.V and on the road but he didn't really know much about them as of yet, just that they could be raced and crashed.

Malen had rolled his eyes when Christian had batted his eyes. It reminded him of Kay and his weakling of an adopted child was not something he cared to think of at the moment.

" Just water is good as long as it's cold" Malen had put on a few pounds of fat lately and while he wasn't narcissistic he couldn't afford in his lien of work to drag aroudn extra weight. He was working the less dangerous cases these days but he still had to go out and hunt down some rough bastards. Rather nasty ones when the requests were personal favors for Talon.

" Things have been good, I've gotten Gil ready to start school and Del is getting more independent. Talked to Kishi on the phone recently and she's job hunting" The older man smiled proudly " Makes me feel like a success you know. Gaia keeps throwing kids at me but I think I'm doing ok with them."
