John Benson, Cleveland

With Tool entrenched on the road in support of its latest effort "10,000 Days," guitarist Adam Jones tells Billboard.com the alt-metal act is tossing around ideas for a band movie.

"It has to be a collective thing as far as the band members," says Jones. "Everyone has to be very happy and it has to be done in a way where people would see integrity and hard work and not just something thrown together or home movies or some sh*tty filmed live show.

"It's a selfish thing," he continues. "There's that selfish quality of what we want versus what everyone else wants. But I think at the end of the day if we get what we want, it's reflective in what other people see in that."

Jones, who is the visionary behind many of the group's music videos, says movie discussion is nothing new to the Los Angeles-based band. If the right financial backer entered the picture, it could become a reality sooner than later.

"We all have ideas about it," Jones says. "If I had my way, it would be a narrative story in a surreal fashion with as much money and special effects we could throw at it. I think some of the other guys would like to do pockets of all of that or something that's live or we're playing. It's just talk right now."

Something more concrete and far less pleasant to the band is a lawsuit filed by visual artist Cam De Leon, whose work has been closely aligned with Tool for over a decade.

"He had done some artwork that we paid him to do in the past for our band and he came with this ridiculous lawsuit saying he's the fifth member of the band and a partner and he was head of our art department," Jones says. "There is no art department. I just feel like it's total extortion. We've been fighting it and it's been really burning a hole in my stomach. It's just been very distracting."

In the meantime, Tool is busying itself on the road. After finishing a North American tour next month, the band heads to Europe for dates in August and September. "I think the album is doing well," Jones says. "We're really happy with it, people are happy with it and I think we can keep going."

discuss....I'm too drunk right now lol.

hell yeah a Tool movie!!

i mean...im not going to hold me breath...we've been waiting for a live DVD of some kind for a long time...they havent even given us a video from 10,000 days yet!

however, this idea is tantalizing...and i can only hope that there might be a movie.

what about Cam though, what do you all think about this development?

its a shame, i thought Cam was cooler than that.

Yeah I'll believe it when I see it. Tool's past success can only carry them so far and with numerous video cancellations and long waits for anything to come from them, it's the only stance any fan could take.

Even with the Vicarious video being cancelled, there's still been no word on the progress on The Pot's video, which hit radio playlists nearly a year ago.

I imagine this project, if it were to be completed, would only happen 10 years down the line.

When's the last time they even used Cam's artwork? 1996? Tool made him, he probably shouldn't go pissing off their fan base.

If the movie is along the line of their videos, it has potential. If it's some live action s**t, then eh. Probably turn into bikini bandits shenanigans.

If Adam Jones has a decent amount of say in the direction of the movie, yeah, I could see it being great. The way I see it, the problem is Maynard, although I don't recall him tossing some Bikini Bandits bullshit into a Tool release yet.

..Lustmord was inexcusable, though.

Adam Jones music videos are entertaining. But not for an hour and a half. I don't want to see a 30 minute Tool video that's not live.

I heard that they are going to be coming out with a Band Documentary next year.

Honestly..I dont see this happening.
IF it does...Ill watch it.See what all the hallabaloo is about. It's Adam Jones people.
Maybe its just me...and by saying this I'm not tring to say the thread creator is bullshitting us but...I myself couldnt see Tool doing this.I think they have other things to worry aobut than making a movie..which if I had to guess hopefully wouldnt have anything to do with the band.

It really sounded like another off-handed idea that a band member mentions and will likely never happen.

Art Department? Jones does most of the art anyways. That other guy needs to get his s**t together if he's suing Tool. He might get mobbed.

i think it could work, adam's videos are great and maynard is a pretty good actor (if you'v seen crank 2, love that scene, and really that whole film)
