I was going back and forth, watching different episodes from different seasons, when it hit me - what the heck happened to my McShow?
Yes, I know that Season One was lighthearted, and then everything changed with the pregnancy and Addison showing up. But the show gradually started to drift away from humor/drama to just angst/drama. I mean, has there been a moment in Season Two or Three that could compare even slightly to "Talk about taking a bite out of crime"? It was ok for a bit in Season Three, but after the Ferry Boat/Drowning incident, it just seemed to be going downhill. Yes, things happen, things change, but even with the "p***s fish" and "pretty pretty fingers," it just hasn't been the same. It's no longer the show I fell in love with. I still love the show, and the characters, but watching it these days doesn't make me feel fulfilled like it used to...I just feel empty.
Is it just me?

Nope. Ironically with your drama comment, I addressed that to Addison's Private Practice spin off. I liked the show not only for the plot and characters, but also because it was funny. It was nice to get some comic relief, meanwhile Seattle Grace even looked bleak, gray, dramatic, and at times boring. Everyone was being whiny, bitchy, or depressed most of the time. At least Addison's show had a better balance.

I guess it has been a little too darkish lately, but they're doctors in a hospital, bad things are bound to happen. I think it tests the characters to see who they really are as a person. Just like Burke walked out on Christina on their wedding*tear, tear*

I agree...
For the first time ever I missed a few episodes (during season) and I wasn't freaking out about making sure I watched it online.
that was what made the show so great - I couldn't wait for next week's episode. Now, eh.

I noticed this too, when I watched the ferry boat arc. The show did go downhill. I couldn't even watch the last two episodes of the third season. I still love Grey's just not like I used to.

Pretty much same here... School started to take up more of my time towards the end of spring, and I missed the last 6 episodes (I think) of the season, but I don't really care anymore. The show, IMO, started out being intelligent, but it has degenerated into pure soap opera. I'd watch the last 6 eps if I could, but they keep putting repeats all out of order online, instead of the last 6 eps. Maybe, if I care, I will just rent Grey's on DVD later. *shrug*
(On a side note... Didn't this guild used to have a Desperate Housewives subforum?)

I won the first season on DVD for free, and the night i got it, i was up til 3 am watching it because i couldnt take my eyes off. I started watching the show on TV in like second season, and I thought that THOSE episodes were awesome. But when I watched the first season, it was like this whole new show, fun to watch, and totally addicting. I love the show, but I really do wish they would throw in some spice like they did in the first season.

Isn't that what Addison said though, when she decided to go to Cali? "Everyone's gray and angry and depressed, and it rains all the time." Or something like that. Yay paraphrasing.
I started watching season one again today cuz I was bored, and I was like "Dude, there's no random guys hitting on George anymore, no Derek and Meredeth casually flirting and Derek giving these cute and cheesy lines like 'No self-control. You should be ashamed.' when Meredith refuses to take the elevator..."

I think it's just getting a little to messe up with season four but I'll still watch it religiously since I'm still (dumbly) optimistic that it'll get better. Also, I own season one, one day I just started watching the first episode then it turn into the second then the third and by that time I couldn't stop watching it. The first season is really funny, I gave it to my friend to watch and now she really lies the show.
