In the sunlight-mottled depths of some unnamed forest within the Kanto region, Zeon Taylor yawned, reclining against the decrepit shambles of what once, a fair while back, could have been considered a wall. That was what was beautiful about it, he thought; amidst the ruins of some half-constructed building, vines and plantlife already well along the path to reclaiming the scattered remnants of whatever-it-was this place was going to be; even though he had no idea what these walls were once meant to be, it didn't matter. Since he didn't know what it was, he could claim it as whatever he wanted it to be, and in his mind, it was labeled as refuge. It was quiet out here, no need for fronts- you could just relax and do whatever you pleased. It was so nice, he didn't even feel the need to turn his mp3 player on, leaving it instead to lay dormant in his back pocket.
"Ah, this sure is the life, isn't it Tyke?" A Growlithe, his only pokemon, raised its head from the pile of leaf-litter it had been investigating nearby, chuffing softly in agreement. While other kids were no doubtedly out training and vying for badges, the two of them were enjoying a far more laid-back existance. Zeon didn't see the lure of tracking down and attempting to catch such and such many types of pokemon, nor did he see why people were so intent on always battling; that wasn't the life for him. Not that he'd completely neglected the nurturing of his own Tyke's abilities; he trained his Growlithe about as much as he himself excersized- not terribly often, but enough so that his friend was at least a decent level and knew a few good tricks.
Really, there were more important things than battling. Things like the all-exciting task he was engaged in right now, tilting his head back and zoning as he watched brief glimpses of clouds pass by beyond the gaps in the forest canopy.

"Is this a private party, or am I allowed to join too?"
A grinning face appeared, looking down on the young man upside down where he lay. She reached up, tucking a bit of straight jet-black hair behind her ear. The rest rebelled and fell in a sort of canopy around her face, easily hanging to her mid-back if she had been standing up straight. Her eyes were deep, icy blue and sparkled with the slightest hint of mischievious playfulness as she stared down at the boy. She was probably only a couple years older than he was, but it was hard to say for sure. She wore typical clothes for a Pokemon trainer...or at least a hiker in the woods: khaki cargos with pockets, a t-shirt, a vest with yet more pockets, and a pair of black hiking boots. Nothing fancy, nothing unique about her. Just another young person out for adventure or solitude in the middle of a seldom-traveled section of forest.
"This is a pretty nice place, wouldn't you say? Be a shame if you kept it all to yourself and didn't share..." she continued, circling around and crouching in the leaves to meet him on a more equal level. Her head tilted to the side, she flashed her sparkling blue eyes at the young man once more, giving him one of her most winning smiles. "What do you say? Up to tolerating a little company for a while?"

"...huh?"
Such was the eloquent response the sudden face-in-view earned, along with a slight jolt as Zeon snapped back to reality. He must have been really spacing, there; he hadn't even heard her approach. Fumbling in his mind for a more appropriate response, he added a quick and earnest "Oh, sure."
Sitting up a bit, he propped himself up on one elbow to get a better look at this sudden and unexpected company. He really hadn't thought he would run into anyone this far out, but it looked as though he wasn't the only one who enjoyed the great outdoors. She didn't seem too bad, though. And at least she had the sense to dress properly, unlike some of those rediculous younger trainer-types who wandered into the forest, only to run screaming out the second they saw a bug pokemon! Glancing over towards Tyke, he took quick note of the fact the Growlithe was still nosing around in the leaves before turning back to the girl.
"I like it. Didn't know anybody else knew about it, though." Thoughtful pause. "I don't mind the company, as long as you don't expect a battle. That's why I'm out here so far, to get away from all that." As she crouched, the young teenager folded his hands behind his head, leaning casually back once more against the remains of the wall. "I'm Zeon. What's your name?"

She smiled back at the young man, taking a seat on a rock that must have been a part of the same wall at one time. "Raine," she answered simply, glancing over at Zeon's Growlithe. "And don't worry, I don't want a battle. That's why I came out here as well; to get a little peace and quiet. The city is so full of trainers all eager for a fight that you can't get a moment's rest anymore." She sighed, eyes rolling towards the heavens in the universal signal for exasperation.
After a moment of silence, she glanced back at Zeon. "To be honest, I didn't know any other humans knew about this place either. I've only seen Pokemon out here before." She seemed puzzled, surveying him for a moment like a particularly interesting Rattata specimen. "You said you came out here to get away from the battling, but do you even battle at all? No offense, but you don't seem to be like most of the trainers I've ever met." She smirked, leaning back on both hands with a relaxed posture.

"Raine, huh? That's a nice name." Following her glance towards Tyke, Zeon whistled to his Growlithe, prompting the puppy-Pokemon to raise his head from sniffing the oh-so-fascinating leaflitter and trot over. "Say hello to our new friend, Tyke." The Growlithe perked his ears, sniffing the air in Raine's direction once or twice before giving a short bark and settling down at Zeon's feet. The teenager laughed lightheartedly at the truth in her statement, grinning sideways at her. "You can say that again. You can't go five feet without tripping over one of them!"
He seemed a bit surprised at the idea that this, his self-proclaimed refuge and 'secret' spot, was possibly not as secluded as he'd thought. "You've been out here before?" It had just seemed so... deserted, he'd never stopped to consider the fact that maybe someone else had found it, too. Pausing in thought at her question, he took a deep breath full of forest air before continuing. "...not like the others do, no." Zeon leaned forward a bit, one hand reaching out to ruffle the fur between his Growlithe's ears. A bit vague in answer, perhaps, but he didn't want to say outright that he hardly battled much at all; let her take the response however she wanted to. Turning back towards Raine, he looked her up and down before asking back, "Do you?" She was one to talk; from what he'd heard so far from the girl, he'd be willing to wager she wasn't like 'most of the trainers' he'd met, either!

Raine smirked knowingly at his vague answer. Just as she'd suspected. Perhaps this wouldn't be as much of a challenge as she had worried it would. She'd been honestly surprised when she'd found a Pokemon trainer out here today and was momentarily at a loss for what to do. She'd been instructed that there were rare Pokemon here that she was being sent to capture...not human males with Growlithes. The others had decided to send her in as a sort of scout, to find out what he was doing here and whether he was a threat to their mission. She wondered still if he possessed any other pokemon. Well, she'd have to find out soon...
"Oh, a bit," she answered equally as evasive, chuckling as she plucked a Pokeball from her belt. She pressed the button, enlarging it and releasing the red light within which quickly formed into the solid shape of a Swampert. "Meet Typhoon," she responded smoothly, smirking with a strange glint in her eye.
She'd caught a flash of movement in the surrounding forest and knew her cohorts were swiftly moving into position. Just a few more minutes now...

In terms of Pokemon, Tyke really was all Zeon had. But like any good 'trainer', his belt had the obligatory few pokeballs clipped to it- blanks, as it were, and really only for show. It was enough to keep the more foolhardy trainers from challenging 'the kid with only one pokemon', at least; and if the few extra ounces of weight helped keep the annoyances at bay, he didn't mind them, useless as they were.
...wow. That was one large pokemon, taller than some of the kids he'd seen! He was impressed. Not that he outwardly showed it too heavily, though. "A bit?" Given how strong the Swampert looked... that may have been a bit of an understatement. And it took evolving to get there, too. He smirked lightly back at Raine, catching hint of the fact that perhaps her answer had been as encoded as his. "How long have you had him?"
Tyke, in the meantime, had taken active notice of this new entity in he and his 'trainer's' space. Rising to his feet, not even half the other Pokemon's size, he chuffed lowly at the Swampert, not so much a challenge as an acknowledgement of presence, and a mild warning- keep your distance.

Reaching up to scratch the Swampert's chin, Raine chuckled. "Oh, quite a while now. Typhoon and I are old friends." Typhoon merely grunted and stretched out his neck for more attention, seemingly ignoring the fire pup. He was no threat to the swamp beast after all.
Raine smiled, noting that her 'friends' had quietly joined them, taking up positions around the clearing. "I hope you don't mind that a couple of my friends were joining me here today. It was supposed to be a sort of 'girls' day out' sort of thing."
A pair of young women slowly emerged from the forest, each dressed similarly to Raine, though their physical details varied. The blonde laughed, tossing her hair over her shoulder. "My my...and what are you doing out here, Raine? Seems you found a cute one, didn't you?"
The brunette rolled her eyes with an exasperated smirk. "Tsk tsk...we can't leave you alone for a minute, can we? I don't even want to know what you've been up to out here with this poor boy."
"You girls have no taste," Raine shot back, crossing her arms. "Anyway, we have business to take care of. Sorry for the deception, seeing as you weren't our original target today, but beggers can't be choosers. We'll take what we can get." She smiled, only half-apologetically, at Zeon.
"Typhoon, go!"
"Inferno!"
"Somna!"
The Swampert was suddenly ready for battle...and he was no longer alone, as both a Camerupt and Hypno had appeared, forming a sort of triangle around the boy and his Growlithe.

"Huh? Um, sure, I guess I don't mind..." Zeon was caught slightly off-guard as Raine's two cohorts arrived; just how many people were in this part of the forest, anyway? So much for a quiet day out. He listened uncertainly at the girls' bantering, not sure if he should chime in to 'defend' himself and Raine or if he should just stay silent. One thing was certain, though- the two girls' arrival had triggered a vague sense of uneasiness in Zeon, for reasons he couldn't place. It wasn't until the word 'target' came up that something clicked.
"You're kidding me, right?" He looked sideways at Raine, questioning. "...you aren't kidding. Damn." Scrambling to his feet, the teen eyed each of the group warily. "Hate to tell you, girls, but you sure have bad choice in targets. I've only got fifteen dollars in my wallet, if that." Zeon smirked ruefully; if they were going to try and rob him, they wouldn't be getting much. Still though, couldn't they have gone and bothered someone else? Surely there were far more battle-happy trainers they could have chosen to harass...! Taking a defensive stance at his human's feet, Tyke growled at the three, hackles raised in warning.
As each of the girls called out their pokemon, Zeon began to get worried. Any one of these would most likely be an even-match for him, but three against one? ...no, make that six against two. Couldn't forget the human factor; and even if those other trainers were planning to rely solely on their pokemon to fight, Zeon wasn't above hitting a few girls if it meant defending himself, if it came down to it.
"Let's show 'em what we've got, Tyke. Firespin, now!" Zeon's Growlithe dashed forward without hesitation, unleashing the fire attack towards his nearest opponent.

Inferno took the hit well enough, shielding Somna before Typhoon could step in. The swamp beast almost seemed to smirk at the fire puppy before firing off a powerful Water Gun in response to the incoming flames. The Hypno took advantage of her two-part living shield to focus her powers and prepare for attack. It was obvious they intended to take their adversary out quickly and would work well together to do so.
Raine smiled at her partners in crime before turning back to the boy. "I'm truely sorry about this, Zeon. Really I am. However, work comes before pleasure; always has and always will. Guess today just wasn't your lucky day."

"Tyke!"
Zeon took a step forward instinctively as he watched the Swampert unleash its attack, concerned; these guys meant business, and it did not bode well. He could only wait with bated breath as the Growlithe was shoved backwards by the force of the Water Gun, stumbling; the pup wouldn't even still be standing if not for the fact the attack was indirectly aimed, meant more to douse his own flames than to cause damage. Still, it didn't look like he could take very much of this...
Steadying his footing, the Growlithe puffed out his chest, staring directly at the Swampert in defiance. With an angry bark he lunged forward, intent on biting the massive swamp beast- water might douse fire, but fangs were effective on nearly anything!
Zeon glanced quickly around him, looking for anything that might offer an advantage. With the pokemon and the girls in front, and the decrepit wall in back, there was no easy escape route- they'd have to fight their way out, and the sinking feeling in his chest told him this was not likely to end in their favor. He wouldn't show that though, couldn't; defiant as his Growlithe, he scowled at Raine, giving her the dirtiest look he could muster. "Like hell you are! Don't you have anything better to do than go about and harass the first person you see?"

Typhoon snorted in what seemed like amusement at the fire puppy's predicament, then frowned as his opponent rushed forward. The pup was insane...that had to be it. He was so bemused by his tiny foe's hopeless attempts to attack him that he didn't realize exactly what he was up to...until his fangs sank into his flank.
Howling in surprise and pain, the swamp beast snarled and whirled on the canine. 'You got spark, runt, I'll give ya' that. Too bad you're on the wrong side of this scuffle.' Taking careful aim, the Swampert let loose another Water Gun on the poor Fire-type.
Meanwhile, one of the other young women laughed and stepped up to answer Zeon's question. "Hmm...to be honest...no, we really don't." Grinning darkly, she shook her head at the boy. "In fact, this is exactly what we should be doing. We should get good money for this one, right, girls?" she shot sideways to her cohorts. Her comment was met with knowing smiles and nods. "Now, fun as this all is, our time really is quite precious. Somna? If you would?"
The Hypno seemed to smile amidst her quiet meditative murmurs, stepping from behind her living shield and setting her eyes on Zeon. Eyes fixed, she raised her arm and began her signature Hypnosis attack, the pendulum-like motion sure to attract the human's attention. Once she had that, he was hers...

With a sharp yelp at the attack, the Growlithe tumbled backward, laying motionless where he fell. The force of a full-on Water Gun had been more than enough to KO him, even without the partial hit he'd taken earlier.
At his pokemon's fall Zeon immediately lunged forward towards his friend, oblivious to the three large and quite possibly dangerous pokemon surrounding them. "Tyke!" Kneeling down protectively, he did his best to assess the damage- Tyke was out of this fight for sure. If it hadn't been apparent beforehand, it was now painfully obvious- this kid wasn't a battler. Most trainers wouldn't react that badly to a loss- they'd know enough not to worry, that their charge would be fine after a visit to the nearest centre. But Zeon actually seemed... distraught.
How dare they come here and intrude upon his peace. How dare they challenge him, unfairly, to a fight he'd never asked for. But most importantly, how dare they hurt Tyke.
Zeon's growing agitation all but drowned out the girls' voices as they spoke, his line of sight trained firmly on the ground in front of him in anger. Had he been listening, he might have once more told them he didn't have hardly any money; had he been listening, he might have caught the underlying threat suggesting it wasn't money they were after. All he knew now was that he needed to end this fight and get out of here, Tyke in tow, whatever it took. But he was out of pokemon, and by all rights had already lost. ...time to get creative.
"You three have no right," he put one hand on his knee, hoisting himself to his feet, "-to harass us here." He was still staring at the ground, angry; he was too incensed to notice one of the girl's pokemon preparing for another attack, too distracted to bother looking at the hints of motion beginning in the corner of his vision. Instead, he reached for one of the empty pokeballs on his belt, thankful Raine hadn't spoken with him enough to know they were blanks. Though the devices may have failed at discouraging a fight to begin with, at least he could think of a use for them now. It wasn't a conventional move, but he was ready to try anything at this point.
Plucking one from his belt (would they think he was calling another pokemon? or perhaps, calling Tyke back to the safety of it?) he quickly hurled it right at his target, shooting a steely glare as he did so. With any luck, the move would catch her by surprise; chucking a pokeball at your opponent's head wasn't a standard move in any battle, and while any possible damage would be slim, it might just cause enough confusion for him to grab Tyke and slip through the triangular trap position the girls and their pokemon now held.

"...the hell?!?" There was a shout and a flurry of chaotic action resulting from the uncharacteristic assault. Raine's arms shot up to shield her head and face from the projectile, which bounced away, resulting in a slight wince. Her cohorts turned to her aid instinctively, but recognizing the odd attack as only distracting rather than devastating, immediately whirled on the young man again furiously.
"It was just business before, kid, but now you've gone too far! Inferno!"
The Camerupt nodded at the unspoken command, line of sight flickering towards Somna. He just needed to get the human's attention on the Hypno long enough to be caught by her abilities. Simple enough, yes? A rather irritated Swampert was rejoining the fray, angered by the attack on his trainer. This should be easy enough. Might even be fun. 'Fun' for them of course...not the ignorant human thing...
A growl and a grunt passed between the two Pokemon as they took up their positions, eyes tracking the human as he tried to escape. Fool really thought he could run from them? It was pathetic really. With careful aim, intending to herd the human rather than injure, Inferno shot a Flamethrower off to Zeon's right, trying to chase him back to the left a bit. In response, the bounding Swampert fired a Water Gun, likely drenching the boy as well as driving him back.
Behind and just out of the edge of Zeon's vision, Somna raised her arm once more, the pendant's rhythmic pendulum-like motion almost calling out to the boy, tempting him to stop running and relax....slow down...and just relax...
