Within each career there are individual ranked positions. This will allow your character to go up in rank and have a specific task in their shop, or ship. Each character can choose their career and hope for a position, but the positions will be chosen by their superiors depending on their behavior through roleplaying.
A sailor and pirate are closest to one another and their ranking system will be the same. Pirates and Sailors often elected their own officers. This will be the case under certain situations if a position needs to be filled and the captain can not decide just whom is fit for the position.
In order from the most power to the least. Each rank has say above any other ranks below them. Respect should be given to all officers above your rank.

PIRATES & SAILORS All starting Pirates and sailors begin at the rank of Deckhand, which is signified on the chart below with the bold, blue font. When you choose your deckhand position, you're choosing your final, officer position.Captain's Assistant --> Lieutenant --> Second-in-Command Gun-Shiner --> Gunner --> Master Gunner Briggs Keep --> Deckmaster --> Quartermaster Anchor --> Rigger --> Boatswain Lookout --> Map Maker --> Navigator Repairman --> Carpenter --> Master Carpenter Nurse --> Doctor Apprentice --> Doctor/Surgeon Servant --> Cook Assistant --> Cook
ABOUT THE RANKS Deckhand The lowest position aboard any ship. The deckhands have authority over no one and are often the butts of all good jokes. They have many tasks and must learn to work with all aspects of the ship before choosing their next position.
Captain: Surpreme commander of the ship. Final word in all matters. The crew fights, sails and acts to the wishes of the captain. The captain is liable to face mutiny if he/she does not lead his/her crew to success.
[Officer] Second-in-Command: Also known as the lieutenant. The closest pirate to the captain and most likely to become a captain on his/her own. The larger the crew and ship, the more lieutenants there might be. For example: in a frigate there is likely to be 1-2 and in a galleon 3. The second in command's task is to act in the captain's absense and keep order.
[Officer] Quartermaster: Is in control of the punishment aboard the ship. Often a representative of the ship as a whole. A very good pirate to become close with as his/her say to the captain is nearly law. Still just a bit below a second-in-command, but still very important.
[Officer] Boatswain: Also known as the bosun. Another very important officer. In charge of all of the ropes belonging to the ship, the cables, anchors, sails, colors, flags and pendants. Also keeps order to ensure that each pirate is doing his duty correctly. The boatswain also keeps watch and control of the ship while many of the other pirates are using the cannons during battle. Also in charge of discipline.
[Officer] Navigator: Also known as the master. In charge of navigation and the actual sailing of the ship. Would need to be obeyed entirely to ensure the crew reaches the required destination. Has the compass and likely draws out maps and where the ship has been, or is heading.
[Officer] Master Gunner: Takes charge of the ships cannons to ensure that they are properly maintained. Trains the crew in the use of cannons. Ensures the security of all weapons. During battle, he/she often yells out directions to the crew to better aid them in combat.
[Officer] Master Carpenter: In charge of the maintenance below the deck, where the boatswain is in charge of everything above deck. Replaces all damaged parts of the ships, including: worn masts and yards, repairing or replacing the rudder and fixing any timber which needed it to ensure that there would be no leaks.
[Officer] Doctor: Also a surgeon when needed. Very few pirate ships even had a Doctor aboard, so it would not be expected except aboard a very large ship with a massive crew. Often the Doctor of the ship was forced to aid the pirate ship after his/her own ship had been recently taken over.

NOBILITY All starting Nobility begin in the bold, blue ranks on the chart below. ABOUT THE RANKS Sentry: A soldier stationed somewhere to ensure that unauthorised people do not pass. A member of the guard or watch. Keep a lookout.
Chambermaid: Lowly maid who cleans bedrooms and bathrooms. Does not recieve a great amount of respect.
Courtesan: More than the common street walker. A courtesan has caught someone of great importance's attention. With the right actions, she may find herself the King's mistress.
Courtier: Nobleman who seeks favor by flattery, charm and occassionally wit.

ROGUE Rogues are the lowlife scum that wander the streets. They have been compared to pirates, but living a life on land. Occassionally there might be a good rogue, that is simply struggling to get by, but it isn't likely.
All rogues begin at the bold, blue classes on the chart below: Pick pocket --> Thief --> Assassin Raider --> Brigand --> Assassin Wench --> Harlot
ABOUT THE RANKS Pick-Pocket: A petty thief and one looked down upon by their higher ranked thieves. They nab belt pouches and get away simply by speed and not skill.
Raider: A raider is a land-pirate. They typically form a band and raid homes and villages in the night. They kill, steal and do what they please. Much more dangerous than pick-pocket.
Wench: Bar wench or street wench. The wench is simply a woman who "does what she can" to get by. Occassionally, they may catch the fancy of a noble and become a courtesan. Not likely.

SEA FOLK The Sea Folk are a large class because they consist of most underwater, sentient beings. Mermaids and selkies are two races that are classified as sea folk.
All sea folk begin at the bold, blue classes on the chart below:Queen/King Siren ---> Exchantress --> Sea witch Songstress/Song Weaver --> Lyricist ---> Healer Crafter Apprentice --> Crafter ---> Master Crafter Translator --> Trader ---> Master Trader
ABOUT THE RANKS Siren: A siren is a sea folk with the ability to sing beautiful, but deadly songs. The most common case are the malicious mermaids that lure men into the sea.
Songstress/Song Weaver: Similar to the Siren, but with good intent. The Songress/Song Weaver have very soothing abilities to their music.
Crafter: Because of the surplus of beautiful stones, shells and fallen items on the oceans bottom, many sea folk have taken it upon themselves to craft beautiful goods. They often work with a trader to offer these goods to sea faring travelers.
Translator: Not all humans can understand the language of the sea folk and so it takes special sea folk to offer translations. These translators often travel with traders to help pass along goods.
Trader: The trader is a popular class, gathering items found, or created by crafters in order to trade and barter with those on the ocean's surface. They often work with crafters and translators.

NOMAD Nomad are traveling folk, that each have a particular skill in which they join. They sometimes juggle, sing, or dance and when they stop in town, they may attempt to do so for money. If they catch the attention of a pirate, or sailor, they may be offered a position on the ship to raise the spirits of the crew.

ABOUT THE RANKS Dancer: A dancer is a very common Nomad. They have great skills in the movements of their body and are a favorite of pirates and sailors alike.
Storyteller: Storytellers are those who pass on the great stories and achievements of those they see fit. It is always a good idea to be on the good side of a storyteller, because you may end up a legend!
Woodsman: A woodsman does not usually travel with a group, but is more of a loner. They live in the moral rural parts of the world and typically keep from the larger societies, unless looking for something.

MILITARY All starting military characters begin as an officer at the rank of Ensign, which is signified on the chart below with the bold, blue font. There are few specific positions for the ranks; the enlisted/conscripted/pressed seaman (nameless nobody NPCs) who make up the majority of the ship fill manual labor such as cook and lookout. Some positions can only be filled by officers, however.NOTE: All military characters MUST choose a European or Furyian crown to serve. They cannot serve on the same ship that flies the flag of a different crown, unless it is a neutral merchant ship. Tactician Not much use in peacetime, the Tactician is the person you trust your life with in battle. Given only to the most able of officers, the Tactician will study maps and books for hours. In peacetime, he will refer to the Navigator and Captain on how best to proceed along a designated route.
Quartermaster: The second most important job on the ship, the Quartermaster insures there are enough supplies to keep the crew well fed and well armed during long trips. His duty also includes negotiating buying and selling supplies when docked.
