How many bass players here can play Birdland by weather report? also if you can do you know if J - pickups make a difference on how itll sound. My bass that i normally use only has p - pickups and i cant get it to sound like i want it to for that song

Actually, the J bass pickups would make a very slight difference as long as you know how to dial in your tone. A fretless would be WAY more beneficial.

I know how that is. a fretless would make it sound better but the way that it is played would kill on your fingers after a while.
