One of the pioneers of the first wave of black metal music as we know it today (as well as Viking metal).

Ace Börje Forsberg was the name written on his obituary, but his real birth name was Tomas. If someone asked him the real name he always gave invented ones: Runka Snorkråka, Pär Vers, Fjärt Bengrot, Folke Ostkuksgrissla, Fnoret.
Börje Forsberg is his father, better known as ``Boss`` the owner of Black Mark Production.

When he formed the band in 1983, his nickname was originally Black Spade. He soon changed it to Ace Shoot, then finally to Quorthon, a name he found on a list of demons. Contrary to popular belief, Bathory have never released an official demo: the first recording was two songs for the Scandinavian Metal Attack compilation LP in 1984.

After The Return... Quorthon worked on an album to be called Okkulta with drummer S. Larsson, but this was scrapped in favor of writing Under the Sign of the Black Mark. All albums until Hammerheart had the same outro, then the outro was added also to the 2003 reissues.

Quorthon said that he played bass on all almost except the debut, parts of The Return… and Blood Fire Death..
Kothaar was a name used by more than one person. Bathory also had a few drummers, as well as drum machines. In some albums he even mixed a real drummer with a drum machine.
Witchhunter (ex-Sodom) jammed with Bathory for a few rehearsals, but never joined the band or played on any recording.
Jonas Åkerlund directed one movie, Spun (2002), as well as various video clips, for bands like Prodigy, Metallica and Madonna.

Elizabeth (Erzsebet) Bathory was a 17th century Hungarian noblewoman, who enjoyed bathing in young women's blood. Estimates on number of girls she killed are between 600/700.

Bathory participated also in the second chapter of Scandinavian Metal Attack.

I haven't listened to his Viking material yet but, Blood Fire Death is an amazing album.

i've got twilight of the gods, and it was different than what i was expecting, but it is a really, really good album. my only complaint about it is that some parts of the album are mixed very quietly, so that it can be hard to hear without turning the volume up...and then it cuts from that quiet part to a very loud part, so if you did turn the volume up for that half a minute to a minute, you then have to quickly turn it back down or risk blowing out the speakers...

but maybe i just need to get better speakers.
