I made a navy bean soup for dinner, thinking I'd have leftovers for lunch during the whole week following. Shabbat lunch and dinner on Saturday were supposed to be big salads and hummous and whatnot. But everybody liked the soup so much that we all ate that instead, and now I only have enough leftovers for Monday and maybe Tuesday. Guess it went over okay!

Because Shabbat starts so very late in the summer, we're having dinner before we go to services. At least, a light repast -- a pasta salad with Thai peanut sauce before services, then maybe a light fruit salad when we come back afterward. Morning, the usual cereal and coffee. Lunch will be a big Israeli salad, then for dinner I've got another cholent, this one based on lentils. Since our crock pot is huge, I'm figuring on having enough cholent to eat every day for the next week for lunches.

I got some once from a kosher deli, and I've a pretty good idea of what goes in it, but I'd love a recipe.

No recipe. I just put in the basics, then add whatever else moves me. You can get the basics just by typing in "thai salad recipe" into your Google search.

I tried the Israeli salad recipe in my 1000 Jewish Recipes cookbook. It was yummy! Mine has cucumbers, red peppers, red onion, tomatoes (all diced into 1/2 inch cubes), lemon juice, olive oil, salt and pepper.

That's probably my favorite salad to make, Cheribi. I LOVE kol bo (Israeli) salad. Lots of variations in the proportions of vegetables, inclusion of other veggies, more or different spices... but the general idea is the same, and it's always delicious and refreshing.

Since I'm leaving town for a week on Sunday, today and tomorrow will be Leftover Days. We'll be using up all our leftovers, plus anything else that might otherwise spoil while we're out of town.
It's not as dismal as it sounds, however -- no worries, we won't be suffering through bland meals on Shabbat. I'll just toss everything into the crock pot to make stew!
