Noah couldn't help but smile at Kohana's comment. "Of course they do." he agreed, chuckling. He helped her prepare the fire, gazing up at her face now and then. Although Kohana seemed to be perfectly fine with his home, he still wished he cleaned up earlier.

He paused at Kohana's question. Then he said, "We should rub the sticks together. It's the hard part." he grinned as he picked up two sticks. "If you want, I'll start start the fire. Maybe we could make dinner together afterwards."

The idea of dinner made him feel warm. Although he already fixed himself a meal several hours before, it wouldn't hurt to eat again. Besides, food wasn't really the point of the dinner. Kohana was.

Thinking back, Kohana had some brief memories of watching others start fires. Gathering sticks was easy enough, but she'd seen many other male senrei struggle for what seemed like forever to catch the sticks on fire. Now, Kohana isn't as delicate as a flower, but she definitely isn't anywhere near strong. "Maybe you should start it. I don't know how long my paws could keep up the rubbing." Kohana joked playfully. "In the meantime, I could find some fruit for us to eat for dinner."

With a slight nod, Kohana wandered out of the tree and began to search the low branches. She usually only ate the fruit and nuts uncooked, so she was very excited for the chance to cook. But Kohana couldn't help but worry if her cooking skills were good enough; she wanted very much to prepare Noah something delicious. Nearby, Kohana found some tomatoes, oranges, mangoes, cashews, and macadamia nuts. She found a large palm leaf on the ground and placed all her findings carefully inside; wrapping them safely. Satisfied, Kohana headed back to Noah's tree.

"That'd be great," Noah beamed, as he fixed himself into a suitable posture for when he would rub the sticks. He waved to Kohana as she made her way out of the tree and began to start the fire. At first, he struggled to keep the branches from slipping from their position, but eventually he got the just of it. The task was rather difficult and tiring, but for his guest, he’d do just about anything.

Soon, he could feel the sticks get warmer, and the scent of smoke wafted beneath his nose. The Senrei lowered the two branches to a pile of dry grass, knowing that a fire would form rather soon. Thankfully, it did. He dropped the sticks into the burning grass and gazed upon the dancing flames. Making the fire was faster than he had thought, so he had several minutes before Kohana would return from gathering the food.

He decided to use the time to fancy up the dinner. Noah dragged a quilt over the log they would probably be eating on, and placed the nearly-empty basket of cashews as the centerpiece. Lastly, he made his way outside his home and picked out a brilliant red-colored hibiscus. He went back inside and placed the flower on the right-part of the table, the place where Kohana would be seated.

As Kohana arrived back at Noah's home with her leaf of food, she saw him set a beautiful red hibiscus down on the table. The changes the room had made in the few minutes she had been gone searching for food were amazing. In the center of the tree, the fire shone fiercely; radiating a comfortable, tender heat. The scent of the smoke wasn't too overpowering, and reminded Kohana of long nights by the beach with her friends. Walking slowly, she laid the giant leaf on the table, were it unfolded and exposed her bundle of fruits and nuts. Kohana carefully picked the nuts away from the large fruits and set them in the basket centerpiece; giving it a fuller and more elegant look.

Kohana then selected a plump tomato out of the pile and held it gently in her paw. "Want to try to roast some of them?" She asked. Then, out of nowhere, her face shot up a few shades of red; not quite matching her tomato friend. Perhaps the understanding that she was pretty much on a date had not quite sunk in.

Hearing Kohana's footsteps, Noah sat himself down at the log and straightened up. It was quiet in the old oak tree. He glanced at the dancing flames which lit up the home, hoping that his new friend would be somewhat impressed.

I can't believe she's still here... he thought to himself. He had never gotten to this point with any girl he's met. Although, techinically, this wasn't really a date, it sure seemed like one. If he had offered help to any other girl, they'd probably just ignore him and keep wandering around helplessly. But Kohana was different from any girl he met. Noah still kept in mind that she was only staying for the night, and would probably be heading off again the next time the sun would arrive. Besides, he wasn't even sure if Kohana knew that he was trying his hardest to twist the small dinner meal into a romantic date.

As Kohana enter the oak tree, he greeted her back with a welcoming smile. "Hey." he tried to act casual, as if he hadn't done much during the few minutes while Kohana was out gathering food. But it was pretty obvious he did tweak the dinner quite a bit.

After she revealed her findings, he nodded, grabbed a nearby branch which was lying around and stabbed it into an orange. He held it over the fire, listening to the flames crackle and sizzle as some of the juice dripped into the fire. Then, he leaned closer to Kohana. "Thanks for the meal." he whispered calmly.

As she sat down next to Noah near the fire, Kohana glanced around again. The tree she had left not 5 minutes ago had been full of random twigs, dirt, and dead leaves. Now a decorated tablet was lit by a dancing fire. It now had a more romantic feel than simply two friends roasting dinner together. Kohana had never been with someone who had gone through so much trouble to prepare something nice for her. Kohana couldn't help but feel extremely flatted by Noah's jester.

But since Kohana had never been in a romantic relationship before, she wasn't quite sure if that's what was happening. To save herself from possibly having a huge embarrassment, Kohana decided it would maybe be best to push those thoughts away for now.

But then Noah leaned closer... "Oh, it's no trouble really. I'm enjoying myself a lot." Kohana whispered back, blushing slightly. She tried hard to concetrate on her roasting tomato instead of Noah.

Noah smiled slightly, gazing at Kohana. Then he turned his head back to roasting his meal, suddenly realizing that his orange was nothing more than a dried up little fruit which was ready to end its little life in the crackling flames. He tried to laugh, which was hard in an embarressing situation like this. He then flicked off the orange into the dirt and took a banana.

"So," he said, attempting to begin a new conversation. "Do you live somewhere around here?" he asked. "If you don't, you should convince your folks to move over here. It's quite nice." he nodded. Again, his mind trailed off to wonderland. It was an interesting night, indeed. He couldn't wait to tell the guys about this one!

A squishing sound was soon heard at his feet.

Noah looked down to find the banana burning up in the fire. Oh, the embarrassment...

After having a small, embarrassing laughing moment about Noah's orange, Kohana remembered her own fruit burning to death inside the flames. She was relived when she pulled the stick out and the tomato wasn't completely charred. Carefully so she wouldn't burn herself, Kohana slid the browned fruit onto a leaf on the table. At the moment it was still too hot to eat.

"I'm still not quite sure where I am not, but I'm pretty sure my home is a little ways away. My tree is near the shore on the eastside of the island. I could move without my parent's permission though." Kohana said, thinking of the day a few years ago when she'd set out to live independently. "But can you see the sun rise and set from here?" This was the reason Kohana had choosen her current residence. There was nothing more relaxing than lying in the sand while the sky swarmed with bright colors.

Snapping out of this little daydream, Kohana watched once again as Noah lost his fruit; this time a banana. She badly wanted to help him, but men usually had this ego that grilling was their thing. Nonetheless, Kohana selected another tomato from the pile and squished it on the end of her stick. "What don't you try a tomato?" Kohana offered sweetly, hoping she wouldn't embarrass or offend Noah.

Noah felt relieved after Kohana had mention her home wasn't too far. He tried to ignore the burning banana as he put his stick down and scooted closer to the warm fire.

"Well, I'm not sure. There's lots of tall trees and such," Noah seemed puzzled at Kohana's question of being able to see the sunrises and sunsets. He was one of those guys who'd sleep in until noon. Strangely, for as long as he had lived in his old oak tree, he never stopped to notice a sunset or woke up early to see the sunrise. "Maybe tomorow you and I could wake up early to see if we can see a sunrise," he smiled warmly.

He looked at Kohana, then remembered his messed up banana. To save any further embarresment, he shook his head. "Thanks, but maybe I'll just roast some nuts or something hard." he laughed, reaching for a small peanut out of the pile of food. He held it over the fire with his stick, careful not to let slip off or anything like that. Noah already felt guilty for letting some fruit Kohana had gathered go to waste.

Just like on the trail, Noah starting repeating Kohana's name as if he liked the sound of it.
"Kohana." he sounded, watching his roasting nut at the same time. "It's beautiful. Does it have a specific meaning of some sort?"

Kohana laughed softly while she watched Noah's face fill with concentration as he balanced the nut on his stick. This cute act lifted Kohana's spirit from a temporary fall brought upon by Noah's trouble with the fruits. That was the last thing Kohana had hoped would happen with the fruits. But that insecurity was long gone now.

Eyes lifted from the nut to Noah's eyes, Kohana took a moment to consider his statement. Well of course he couldn't see the sunset! You'd be lucky to spot even the smallest amount of blue amiss the lush trees. "Ah, I have a habit of asking pretty silly questions." Kohana admitted, giggling with slight embarrassment. She absolutely did not want to appear ditzy to Noah. "But I'd love to catch the next sunrise. Maybe we can find some sturdy branches to perch on." She answered, temporaryly dazzed. The thought of the coming day was wonderful...

Pausing for a moment, Kohana thought back to her days as a young senrei. She was caught off-guard by the question, since she doesn't get asked it very often. She also tried not to let her ego grow when Noah said it was beautiful. "My mother said it means, 'little flower'. I suppose it doesn't apply much now that I'm older..."

"But I like it nonetheless." Kohana chirped, throwing Noah a big smile. "How about your's? I still don't know much of your background." She asked, genuinally curious.

Afraid that the peanut might catch on fire and fall into the burning twigs, Noah pulled in the stick and pulled the nut out. He held it in his palm, noticing it was nowhere near warm. Nevertheless, he peeled off the shell and popped it into his mouth. He didn't want to risk making a fool out of himself again.

"A little tree climbing could be fun." he spoke, although he couldn't imagine trying to see the sunrise. The tallest trees around were the smooth ones with no branches, so it would be hard to get a grip on something like that. He'd try manage anyways. He'd do anything for Kohana

Despite the fact that it'd be hard to get high enough to see the sun, it was the thought of waking up early in time for the sunrise that bothered Noah. He was afraid he'd sleep in. Maybe he could just stay up the whole night. If he did, he'd probably be drowsy all day tomorrow. Shaking the thought out of his head, he tried to focus on the conversation.

"The meaning fits you. You have the qualities of a beautiful flower, no?" he smiled, setting his roasting stick down. He'd had dinner with his guy friends before, and they ate a tremendous amount of food. It was disgusting. Certainly, he didn't want to look like them in front of Kohana.

"My name?" he said uncertainly. "I don't know anything about the background actually. I was just named after my grandfather. Again, I really don't know why."

"It's getting late," Noah noticed. He hadn't realized how tired he was until he had looked outside and saw nothing but darkness. He rarely ever stayed up late, except during big "parties" the guys threw. Even so, he'd end up sleeping on furniture without remembering how he got there in the first place.

"It would be, but now that I think of it, I've never climbed more than a few feet or so." Kohana was a little embarrassed for having spoken her thought. Kohana was by no means physically weak, but she wasn't going to enter a wrestling match any time soon. Walking slowly everywhere you go doesn't really build any strength. Kohana could try flying, but she'd done it so few times that she was sure to fall flat on her butt. "I probably couldn't make it anyway."

Kohana couldn't help but shift around in her spot by the fire at the mention of being like a beautiful flower. Luckily she was close enough to the fire that its red glow hid the growing reddness on her face. Despite being pretty modest, Kohana couldn't help but smile; after all, every girl wants to hear that she's pretty.

"Well, that's still interesting. I don't know much about my past family, let alone the name of my grandparents." Kohana said, leaning herself back against a pile of crisp leaves.

Taking her first glance towards the door in a while, Kohana was shocked to see that outside the little tree was pitch black. She had never stayed at someone else's house so late, especially a male's. At the realization of how late it was, Kohana was immetiately exhausted. She slouched even more against her pile of leaves and let out a small yawn. "I don't know if I can stay up another minute." Kohana said sleepily. She didn't want to be a bother to Noah, since she was a guest in his house. But she was hoping the floor wouldn't be her bed.

((Sorry, couldn't end it xd Close though~))

Noah smiled, and nodded. "Tree climbing isn't a big thing of mine." he said, remembering the times that he had attempted to pluck fruit from a high tree. He'd usually slide down, and scrape himself. It wouldn't be good if he ended up all bruised and sore at the end of tomorrow.

"I could always carry you up the tree. That should work." he joked, He pictured Kohana on his back as he slid up the highest tree in the forest with ease. When they would reach the top, they'd watch the sunrise together. Only in his imagination would that happen. He chuckled at the thought.

He wiggled his broad shoulders and blinked tiredly. Noah never had guests spend the night at his house other than the guys, so he wasn't really prepared. "Sorry I kept you up." he spoke, getting up from the fire, stretching his dead legs. He looked around, squinting for something soft Kohana could sleep on. The fire wasn't enough to light the entire tree.

Finding nothing but his own little nest, (which was nothing more than straw covered by a blanket) he would let Kohana sleep in his own bed. He decided he would stay up for the rest of the night so he wouldn't sleep in. A bed would be of no use to him. It was too dark to find straw anyways. The dirt which covered the tree's ground was soft, so he had no problem sleep on it.

He directed Kohana towards the nest in the corner, and with a small smile attatched to his face, he spoke, "Better get some sleep now. We don't want to miss the sunrise tomorrow, do we?"

"Certainly not," Kohana whispered as she drifted off to sleep.
