Amitai shrugged back down at Onora--she expected him to know what was going on?--and then nodded. "Gaia, that's the name, right," he echoed positively. His attention wandered once more, caught by the flood of the new girl's strangely-accented words.
"KEEEE-veh," Amitai repeated slowly, attempting to imitate the new girl's pronunciation in hopes that maybe somehow he'd avoid mangling one name today. "Okay," he said, nodding as if that was all it took to attach the name to the face and commit them both to memory. He would probably forget both the minute the girl was out of sight.
"Am Amitai," he responded, smiling in absent congeniality. "Not from around Gaia here also. English not so okay yet." If he noticed Caoimhe's less than friendly attitude towards him, he didn't show it.

Maybe it was all the excitement of getting chased down the stairs by a boy she'd initially mistaken for a jumble of rock and clay but Onora found her adrenaline spiking momentarily as Caoimhe introduced herself and answered the slew of questions they'd subjected her to (not that they hadn't gotten the same in turn). With the exception of Amitai here, Onora was fairly certain very few of the Fa'e had come from...other places. But if there were others who had maybe it wouldn't be entirely possible to get back to check on things. Make sure people were safe.
Make sure dark things hadn't turned the earth over stone for stone in the process of looking for her.
"Nine months. What is nine months? Is that long?" The Gaian calendar, from what Onora could gather, seemed to be completely different from the one she knew. Belatedly, she seemed to remember that Amitai had introduced himself, leaving herself as the only one ws."ho hadn't gone through the pleasantries. Flushing, she added hastily "I'm Onora Morrison. Morris is upstairs," perhaps unaware that she was giving a flood of unnecessary information in addition to her rambling demands for information.

Caoimhe stared back at the pair of Fa'e and nodded as if she understood something that they did not. In truth, she was only thinking about going for a swim later, but she had seen her guardian nod in this way many times. Hopefully, it would make them respect her. Or maybe not.
Rocky and Redhead. She would remember those names, even if the true ones escaped her. "Nine months is a lot of days," she quipped. "Um, many moons and suns. You know, a long time. I've been here a lot longer than you all." With a satisfied shoulder thrust, Caoi puffed out her chest like an agitated bullfrog, happy to elevate herself. It wasn't often that she got to feel like this in Gaia. More often, she was getting trapped in closests when she forgot how to use a doorknob or nearly get run over by cars because she couldn't understand a walk signal or any other event designed to kill, maim, or infuriate her.
Her life in Gaia hadn't exactly been a walk in the park.
"Is Morris your... guardian?" The word sounded odd on her lips, but living in the Fa'e HQ for so long, the selkie Fa'e had heard it tossed around like a baseball on a daily basis. "Mine is Gristla. She's out hunting right now."
Despite her aversion to the big pile of rocks, Caoimhe secretly lavished in having other Fa'e to talk to and these Fa'e were even better than all the rest because they were like her. They weren't from here. Idlyly, she wondered why that was, but the thought slipped from her mind like a wave.

Amitai looked impressed as Caoimhe proudly announced the duration of her life on Gaia. "Long time, yes," he agreed. "How you get to Gaia? Where your home was before? What this Gaia-place is like?" Clearly, since she had been here so much longer than he and his new acquaintance--and was, like them, severely displaced--she must have all the answers!

Onora lapsed into momentary silence, jump starting like a horse with a bee sting the moment she drew the connecting line between 'guardian' and every other word she'd every used to describe Morris. These Gaia people seemed to like that word. "Yes, he is," she said in a clipped voice, slightly puzzled that Caoimhe even had to ask. But no matter.
Much like Amitai, though Onora would have denied it up and down and five times over, she clamored to get information out of the other girl. "Your mother hunts?!" She nearly threw up her hands with glee. Finally, a civilized woman in this place! "Archery? Hawking? Or perhaps she uses a boar spear? Does she have dogs?"

The selkie Fa'e nearly fell into the doorframe as Amitai and Onora berated her with questions, swaying on her feet slightly. She liked that, how they needed her answer. For so many months, it had been her asking questions all day, but finally, the tables had turned. Savoring the moment, Caoimhe pulled her hair up into a high ponytail, tying it off with a leather band around her wrist.
She answered Onora's questions first, for reasons that seemed obvious to Caoimhe. "Yeah, of course she hunts. How else would she eat?" But archery? Hawking? Spears? And worst of all, dogs? The Fa'e wrinkled her nose in disgust. "No, none of that. Definitely not the last one, dirty things." She refused to say 'dogs' aloud. After seeing a few, they were clearly related to the Eninac, and thus, were disgusting and likely evil. "Gristla just uses claws and teeth, mostly. I help her sometimes, and I can use a spear though."
She shrugged, eying Amitai cautiously. "You want to know what Gaia is like?" she asked, ignoring his personal inquiries. He obviously could not be trusted with any personal information. Fa'e or not, rock or not, he looked like a man-boy, and Caoi didn't trust him. "Walk outside and find out for yourself what Gaia is like. That is what I had to do."
Folding her arms across her chest, Caoimhe waited for one of the others to continue the conversation.
