Windir is a Black/Viking metal from Norway.
"On January 14, 2004, Terje "Valfar" Bakken went out on a walk towards his family's cabin at Fagereggi, but he never arrived. Three days later, authorities found his body at Reppastølen in the Sogndal valley. He had gotten stuck in a snow storm, and had died of hypothermia."
The band performed a last concert in Oslo on September 3rd in 2004 in honor of Valfar. Enslaved (Nor), Finntroll and Mindgrinder were the guest bands.
"Windir" is a word in the Sogndal dialect, translating to "Warrior".
Windir is my fav. Viking Metal band, with my fav. album being 1184.

Ooo, that would have been a cool concert to go to, considering that's my B-day. But I enjoy the sounds of Windir, I think one of my more favorite songs is "Dauden".

Windir is amazing. I've seen guitar tabs to some of their songs, I wish I could play faster so I could actually play them. xp Lulz.

The thing I like most about them is when they have a heavy riff playing simultaneously with a nice keyboard melody along with it (like at 3:50 on Black New Age).

The only album I have right now is Valfar, Ein Windir. I like a lot and I am probably gonna try to get their whole discography.

I would suggest either Arntor or 1184 to get next. Yeah, I'm thinking of 1184 right now since I've heard almost all it's songs and I like all of them.
