heh, wanted to have a neat title there. any way, onto my data sheet, and yes, this is gonna be like some tech read out: Name: Nathan (you can PM for the rest) Age: 26 Height/weight: 6ft, 280lbs Build: average Gender: male Hair/eye color: Dark brown, Hazel (though prone to changing based on mood) Ethnicity: White caucasion Orientation: Straight
I am an avid fan of science, to me, it is where one finds the truth of existence. One can get away with saying I hate religion, because I feel it make people ignorant to the world around them. As such, I am atheist, and seem to always have the misfortune to find myself, whenever I move, to another heavily religious town. The first area of science I got into was palentology, the study of fossils and prehistory, specifically dinosaurs, as time passed, it shift to Robotics and drove me to at least earn a degree in electronis technology. Currently, I find myself being a general fan of science and history, as I seek to completely, and scientifically, explain the Christian bible. Some may consider this mad, but I would love nothing more, then to see the downfall of christianity by my findings, before I pass away. Well that's it for now, I'll have more later

lol Welcome to the guild!
*waves*
Aren't ya a bit obsessive with the religion bit. xp
Not all christians or religious people for that matter fall under this "pop" religious trend.... - that's what I think of these "ignorant" people you speak of... Which is a trend I think Bush started....or restarted I shoudl say. xp
I know you have dropped in the science and religion thread... I have mentioned before that we can have our faith and still believe in science. The bible or any religous book is not meant to be taken literally... and it's when people on either side of science or religion become obssesive about the other...is when there arise problems. I don't think neither one is out to disprove the other and I dont' think they have to meet eachother head on.
None the less goodluck in trying to explain they "mythology" in the christian bible and once again welcome to the guild, I hope you enjoy it here.
Oh and just one more thing...there are plenty of educated non-religous people that are also ignorant.
IT's a pleasure to meet ya...
-Catz

I do apologize for seeming obsessive over the matter, but when I look back on history, see the crimes such religions have comitted in the name of there god, and look to my one community and see similar ignorance, it gets to me. I mean, our evolution was geared toward the development of our minds, and yet here we are, in the era of science and religion still has it's hold on us? As for the Bush issue, while I am registered republican, my politics begin and end at the voting both, I barely pay attention inbetween. And believe me I have seen plenty non-religious people in my short life that have proven to be not simply ignorant, but down right retarded too. I love dinosaurs, I have no favorite thought, cause I like them all, so many interesting types in various shapes and sizes and designs mrgreen heart

I agree, that looking through out history, most bloodshead and lives lost have been over religon...and that still goes on today; and I can agree, that the weekminded, those closed to other ideas are easily influenced peole who make fools of themselves when they fail to questions things. Those people who are easily "influenced" (for lack of better word) do tend to be religous.
I believe there is a God, in the sence that yes...there is something greater than us all.
I don't believe God is a human and I don't think we were created in his/her form.
There is alot of things I don't believe. I am Catholic...but it's like I pick and choose what I feel makes sence to me. Some say that's me not being religious...perhpas not the Catholic way..but I do believe in my Faith and I belive I am religious in my own way. I don't care what anyone can say about it, and I don't care what other's religious idea's are.
But I know some people are...heads up there are people in this guild...who are semminly sensitive to that.
Just wanted to warn ya there, as there was some heated discussion in that religon/science thread.

oh I don't doubt it, I fear religion and science will but heads till one or the other is 6ft under. I mean yes,m back in mans early days religion did play a vital roll, but, at least to me, I fell that roll, the one of explaining things, has become the domain of science, true, good morals are found in religion, but such morals were law back in ancient times and are so today, really, religion is only here to guide those that fear, not death, but what, if anything, comes after death, it uses and incentive method for enforcing morals, an end reward or punishment for being good or bad, when fact is, we have that in life, it's called, retirement, and prison, so to me, I have a hard time seeing the usefulness of religion, outside of a few decent stories.

it's usefullness is nothing more than a guide to living decently. Morals, like you said.
Some people though, take the bible literally....and those are the people that deny evolution... burn books...ect.

And I'd had the misfortune of running into such people. I swear, after the calm arguement with them, I need like a bottle of aspirin and a few hours of the discovery channel just to keep the stupid and ignorant from infecting me xp

haha, well part of being open minded is also listening and trying to see from the prespective of other's...even if that means the ignorant.
Yeah, it's annoying as hell.
I work with this one lady who is just like that. I try my best to understand her, but I just can't. It's totally the christianity, and the way she was raised...she's super racsit...and she calls her self a christian...pfft!

I just feel like throwing my opinion out on this if that's cool?
Nice to meet you Kumouri. mrgreen
This of course is just my opinion, but like said I feel like throwing it out here. I believe there is a God and that all our known(and unknown) laws of Science were created by him, however, I don't hold true completely to the bible, I don't even believe in the holy trinity, becasue that little phrase didn't even exist in the bible before a pope put it in there. But there are some aspects of it I beleive are true. If you read the part about man being created by clay from the earth, if you think about it metaphorically to science, the first thing you have to do to make something from clay is start by making the main "body" of what it is you're sculpting, I see the sculpting of clay to make man as the Evolutionary proccesses we have been able to more or less prove, that has lead to us and other animals existing today.
But that's just me, you've your opinion and I have mine so it's all cool. mrgreen
Dino's eh? Do you by chance have a State Dino? I mean does the state you live in(assuming of course you live in the U.S., I could be wrong of course.) have a state Dino? I know the one for Colorado is the Stegosaurus. mrgreen As for me and computers/tech, well I find myself dislexic in that area at times. xp

Emily> Man I hate those kind of hypocrits Tiki> Yo and hey, that's part if the purpose of this guild, sharing of opinions. I see what you mean on the metaphore part, but lets look at this, when a body is reduced to ash, if you have that in a bowl and add the right amount of water, you get a clay like substance. perhapes the early holy men saw this fact and incorperated it into the stories. I mean after all you just mentioned how the Holy Trinity part was added in later on, and facts are, a lot has been added tot he bible long after the first was made. As for the state Dino thing, I didn't know about that, now I've gotta find out what the ones for Texas and California, I was born n California. mrgreen
