My (somewhat new) boyfriend has never seen the show or movie. Until recently he'd never even heard the theme song.
I only have one season of M*A*S*H on tape, and it is the third season.
So I'm not sure quite what to do... Should I show him the one season I have and hope he gets hooked? Try to find what I can on youtube and googlevideos? Should I rent the movie and talk him into watching it? His parents have netflix, so eventually I might be able to talk them into renting the seasons.
Just help me figure out what to start with showing him, and how.

It might be best for him to see either the movie or the pilot first so he can get a feel for the characters then show him the later seasons or like you said show him what you have and hope he gets hooked.

Don't show him the movie until he gets hooked on the show. The movie will only confuse him.

I agree with Mystery Trip. The movie is so much different than the show, mostly due to the amount of heart that the show has over the movie. That and the show has a much higher production value than the movie.
That's what I'd do.

I didn't start getting into Mash until around Charles and I think I fell in love with those seasons. You can get hooked on any of them, just make sure you have more than one episode with you to watch more than one. That might help. Where you start is your choice.

I would also recommend reading the book before seeing the movie. That way you can understand who is who.
