(Number 6 is probably my favorite.)
So these are all shots from a whole day with a few of my friends forming a band called ********. They are insane and all about the dirty, so my shots tried to reflect that for the most part. I'm really proud of my lighting, I lit it with an octobank to the left at a diagonal, a soft box slightly camera left, and an umbrella to the right for the grey background shots. Tell me what you think please!

I'd like to see you move in closer in all of these shots, and fill the frame.
In #6 there is a bit of the zylophone sneaking into the shot, which I find completely distracting from the picture.

I'd say #8 is my favorite, although you DEFINATELY need to move in closer and fill the frame more. I like it's energy the best, but there's a lot of boring grey space that needs to be filled or removed.

From a portraiture standpoint, #1 to me seems like the strongest.

These are quite clean however, no blur lines even in some of the action-esque shots.

What kind of camera were you using?
SLR?

thanks, I was using an H1 system with an Aptus 17 back and some speedotron packs.

It was sort of a decision for me to leave in the grey space because I think it frames the subject really well, and I think the xylophone in #6 makes the image! but thanks for the feedback, I will start playing around with cropping these.

I like number 3 the best.

I actually like the grey space in the last few photo's; i dont' know, i think it just gives the shot more emphasis, if that makes any sense.

i love the last one especially, great energy and <3xylophones

We've talked about these before, and the only think I can really think of is how bad I want the guy in number 6.

Artistically I probably like the last one the most, but I think maybe the top should be cropped a little so that he's more centered.

I don't like the gray, but not because of how much there is. I think the gray color just dulls the pictures way down, all the shots seem way desaturated. The lighting reminds me of a really rainy day.

a solid color bg would have been neat

that's an interesting comment page boy, the color may be desaturated due to me coming down from a 16-bit file to an 8-bit jpeg. also, I think imageshack applies a process which desaturates it a bit. really annoying. I'm doing a head/shoulders shoot at some point and am going to use a really bright banana yellow.

it has more to do with environmental diffusion of light i suspect
