The Area:
Each house is set on 1 acre of grass and is a two story home. The top floor contains the master bedroom, a bathroom, and one child’s room. All homes come furnished with black cloth furniture and white walls.
The garage is detached from the home but has a brick path that leads the way. Every home has one tree in the front left corner of the yard. You are assigned a house at age 18.
All the land near the community and around the other, similar towns clustered about the nearby river has been flattened to aid agriculture and transportation. Climate control is used so the weather remains constant.


Life:
People are required to make very few choices. Meals are delivered at the same time, 3 times a day. Your career is chosen for you if you want a child you apply for one then if found acceptable you are given a child that would best match you. Nothing is left to chance. There are ceremonies at the ages of 1 when they are named and assigned to families, at 7 when they receive their first bike, at 12 when there careers are announced and they begin formal training, and finally at 18 when you are an adult. Birthdays are counted by the New Year not by the month or day and all ceremonies are held on the New Year.


School and Career:
School classes are the same until you are 12 when you enter specialized training for the career that has been chosen for you. Your career is chosen by a group of people who monitor all children in the town and assign you what they think is best. Once it has been assigned you can not have it changed it is final and you are expected to be happy. You train in your career until you reach the age of 18. You work in your career until you reach 50 where you are sent to a for lack of a better word retirement home. Then when you become to old to care for yourself you tell your life story and are Released (euthanasia- mercy killing)

Your spouse like your career is chosen for you by a council.

Children:
Children are born to designated "birthmothers" and then distributed, up to one boy and one girl per family, in order to achieve balance in the population.

Post Children:
After family units have served the purpose of raising the children in a stable environment, they cease to exist, the parents going to a communal housing facility for childless adults, and the children becoming involved in their. The community maintains this process using pills which suppress emotion, mainly romantic love and sexuality.

World in general:
The people in this town have been shut out from society for hundreds of years. Even the sunlight is filtered so if anything has color at all it is dim and faded looking. Most things are seen in black and white. Also they have never seen or heard of animals except in old stories.

Crime:
People are bound by an extensive set of rules touching every aspect of life, which if violated would require a simple but somewhat ceremonious apology. In some cases, violating the rules is overlooked older siblings invariably teach their younger brothers and sisters how to ride a bicycle before the children are officially permitted to learn the skill. If a member of the community has committed serious infractions twice before, he or she may be punished by Release.

History: As the second child she is a desgrace to the family. Following in her older brothers foot steps she looks for trouble amoung the town.
Family: She is the second child to Tony (a gardener) and Leslie (a assistant nurturer). She has one older brother who ran away almost a year ago. Unknown to the town he still returns some nights to mentor his younger sister.
