Tommy gave a grunt of effort as he pulled himself up and onto the top of one of the aquatic duplexes. Over the past few weeks the bat had done nothing but practice flying. He had started off just jumping off of tree branches and the like...nothing more than ten feet off the ground...but now he wanted to try something new, and the Aquatic Duplexes allowed for a higher jumping pad with the lake as a safety net. He was trying to be quiet...not knowing whose home he was trespassing on at midnight...And he thought he was, honestly. But...you'd think with ears like that he'd be able to keep quiet.
A loud thump announced his presence on the roof of the duplex and he quickly bat-walked to the edge to prepare his leap. With a sigh, he stretched out his wings to their full impressive wingspan.

Billy had been alone. Billy had been drinking. Neither of these events were anything new or particularly surprising to find the octopus. His new duplex had filled that instinctual void for a reef to live in, and he'd quite often brought in live fish to swim about the pool-side of the place to lazily stalk. He'd go out for long swims, making rounds about the lake floor, crawling through the murk for things to eat and hiding from other aquatic islanders and casual swimmers alike. While Billy might have missed being a social animal, even a bit of a flea-bitten one, the octopus was happy to be on his own.
When something made a loud noise from his roof, though, Billy glanced up with an intoxicated scowel. "Wha' in the...?"

Tommy closed his eyes lightly as he petered on the edge of the duplex, wings spread out wide, ready for the initial flap and jump that will take him into the sky. He had done this before, true enough, but never this late at night...nor over the lake. A seed of fear took root in his mind, wondering if he was really up to this. Heights were never a big thing to the bat-man...but he figured he had wings and had better get over that fear fast. Tommy was so absorbed in his pre-flight preparations that the sound of Billy's words reaching his radar-like ears completely broke his concentration causing him to start...right over the edge of the duplex. With a loud squeak of surprise, he tried flapping and twisting in vain before he hit the water with a loud splash...his wings giving him the feeling of the worst bellyflop he had ever experienced.
A string of curses followed him down into the water.

"Wha' th'feckin' hell's...?" The octopus hissed, settling down his current bottle to dive down into the water to scoot out his back door to the lake to investigate. He peered through the dark water easily enough, octopus eyes catching what small amount of light was out, trying to see what had caused the noise outside and give it a stern talking to.

At this point, Tommy didn't know what the hell was going on...the shock of the cold water against his wings added to the fact that he just bellyflopped completely disrupted any rational train of thought. Also, as it turned out, righting yourself with wings when you're flat on your face in the water was very...very difficult. In fact, he was so disoriented that he didn't even realize that a multi-limbed tentacle monster had just entered his immediate area.
While flapping and sputtering, he finally got his head above the water enough to gasp some air and cry out, "Goddamnithelpsughflegulfloop"

Soon the water rushed up around the bat as something snagged a hold of his wrist-like ankle and pulled. He was dragged for several yards before the same unseen shape in the water pushed him upward to break his head through the surface.
He was given only a moment to catch his breath before he was yanked under again.

Darkness began to creep into the edges of Tommy's vision as the bat-man began to sink deeper and deeper into the water. He barley noticed as he was towed through the water even though his wet furred body gave a helluva lot of drag considering his wings were outstretched. Finally though, his head broke water and allowed him to take in large lung fulls of air before he was submerged once more...not even having enough time to let out a screech. At this point he tried struggling somewhat, but overall was in no condition to do much of anything other than go with the flow.

He was pushed and pulled through the blackness until finally something shoved him backward through the water, letting him go. A shadow rose, water flooding from it's shining slimy skin and when it's spoke, it's voice gurgled with water clearing from a pair of shrunken lungs, "Get th'HELL ....out o' me lake if ....y'know wha's good fer you!"

Tommy gasped and sputtered as he flopped out of the lake monsters grip into the shallower water. Instantly he righted himself onto all fours before beginning to heave. At first it was mostly water that he threw up but then blood too began erupting forth from his mouth. His mind was still swimming from what just transpired...everything happening so fast. He glanced about, instantly shivering from the wet fur, quickly sending out echolocations to find out just where he was. In the history of mistakes in Tommy's life, he had to say that this was high up on his list of the worst ones.
At Billy's shout though, his radar-like ears easily pinpointed where he was in the dark. "The...Christ..." he began, coughing up a little bit more blood, "Who the hell is that?" He squinted his beady black eyes at the form in the water, having trouble making out just who he was talking to. Not Alec...Alec didn't sound like that...

"I said GET OUT," the shape in the darkness snarled, reaching through the water to try to grab him again for another warning dunk.

Tommy's ears told him that he wasn't anywhere near the shore at the moment, so Billy's shouts only annoyed the batman further. "The ******** you want me to do asshat!? You think I can actually fly off like thi..ack!" he screeched out as he was dunked once again. "********!" was his response as he shook his head vigorously, trying to get the water out of his eyes and ears.
"The hell is your goddamn problem!? I almost drown 'cause of your a** and you drop me of on a goddamn sand bar...thing!? So what, so you can continue to dunk me!? I swear, you touch me again and you're pulling back a goddamn stump."
