Chapter One
The Deal
“It’s been what five years since the secrets of Miranda have been
broadcasted across the universe. You and your crew escaped the parliament and managed to slip into Reaver space without trouble. Of course there were the deaths of two of your crew members.” Severin brought her glass to her lips and smiled. “You seem to know quite abit about me and my crew. Care to share on how you know all these things?” Severin laughed slightly “Now Mal, there are some things that are better left unknown. You understand” she took a drink; swallowing the strong liquor she sat the glass back down on the table. Mal studied her with a smile on his lips “Well then, shall we get down to business then?” Severin sat forward in her chair “Now you’re talking, the job is this…” Mal leaned forward and listened intently as she whispered the plan.
“So it’s a deal?” Severin asked holding out her hand, Mal smirked and took her hand giving it a squeeze “Deal, shall we set sail then?” He stood up and held out his arm signaling Severin to lead the way. Severin stood up and walked pass Mal.
Severin walked up the ramp into the cargo bay, the ship seemed smaller on the inside, She walked over to the steps that lead to the second level and sat down. “Who are you?” demanded a brute of a man. Severin looked him over with a smirk “Who wants to know?” the man walked up to her, standing inches from he looked down at her “Jayne…. you play nice, that’s Severin. She’ll be staying with us for a while.” Jayne looked her over then looked back up at Mal “What use is she to us?” Severin stood up on the bottom step so she was eye level with Jayne “Im of plenty use to this crew…” Severin slipped her fingers into the top of Jayne’s pants. His eyes widen a bit then he smiled “She can stay in my bunk” he stared at Severin; his eyes were full of lust. Severin pulled her fingers out of his pants and began to walk up the stairs “Wipe your mouth Jayne, you’re drooling.” she said softly over her shoulder at him. Mal walked over to Jayne and put his hand on Jayne’s shoulder “Careful, that girl is a heartbreaker…literally she’ll tear it to pieces.” Mal followed Severin up the stairs “You’ll have to ignore Jayne, he’s well…Jayne. There’s not much to the man…” Severin smiled “Yes well I’ve been around worse.” Mal stopped in front of a door “Feel free to explore, I’ll be in here if you need anything.” Severin smiled and continued to walk down the corridor.
As Severin walked down the corridor she heard the metal tangles of pipes squeak above her “Hello River…” she said softly as he continued to walk. River slipped out from the piping and landed next to Severin “You’re alive…” Severin snorted “Yes, Im alive….” River started to walk “Simon has missed you, He’s in his lab.” The corners of Severin’s mouth twitched “I think I’ll go pay him a visit…” She hugged River “Its good to see you again.” Severin broke the hug and turned on her heel. She walked down a set of stairs and saw him. Simon stood in the middle of the large brightly lit room reading what looked like a medical journal. She walked into the room “Im here for my physical doctor.” Simon jumped slightly then turned around, he gawked at her for a moment then walked over to her “Severin? Is it really you?” He stared at her in disbelief, Severin smiled and hugged him tightly “Yes Simon it’s me, alive and well.” Simon pulled out of the hug and held Severin in front of him. “I though for sure you were killed along with all the others. How did you escape?” his eyes studied hers waiting for the answer. “That day, when you rescued River. During the chaos you created I managed to take out a few men and escape silently and unnoticed.” Simon caressed her cheek “Well Im glad you made it out alive, you mean a lot to me and River.”
There was a small cough that came from the doorway. Severin and Simon both turned and looked. In the door way stood a girl, she looked only a bit younger than Severin. “Kaylee…I want you to be a very close friend of mine.” Simon walked over to Kaylee “This is Severin, she was one of the test subjects of the alliance. She was in there with River, she looked after River” Kaylee smiled at Severin “Welcome aboard” Severin looked her over then planted a fake smile on her lips “Thank you, Im feeling a bit tired Im going to go hit up on that offer Jayne gave me.” Severin hugged Simon one last time; she eyed Kaylee as she passed her. Simon watched her leave then looked down at a scowling Kaylee “What?” he asked looking at her confused, she walked around him and sat on the small examination table “You that what, you’ve been acting so cold to me lately…. it just seems like after that day we spent together you seemed like you wanted nothing more to do with me.” She looked down at the floor. Simon walked over to her and lifter her chin “That’s not true…I love you Kaylee. I’ve just been…. occupied.” Kaylee slid off the table “I have to go, I need to make sure the engine is good before we take off.”
Mal sat in the cockpit of the ship preparing for take off. “ Severin has made quite a buzz on the ship.” Mal looked over at his co-pilate Zoë. “Yea, but she’ll be useful…she’s strong and she seems to know how to work people.” Zoë nodded “She does, Can she be trusted?” Mal shrugged “I don’t know, but I bet we’ll find out” Mal reached up and grabbed the mic of the intercom and held down a button “This is your cap’n speaking, unless you want to be tossed around I suggest you hang on to something, we’ll be taking off soon” He hooked the mic back up and started up the ship.
